I think it is because he couldnt knockout Shane Mosley, but he knocked out all his other opponents with ease. Shane Mosley had the same come-forward style as all of Canelo's opponents. He landed over 50% of his power punches on Shane Mosley and he couldnt even knock him down.
I don't think his power is overrated. He hits hard for a 154 pounder. If he can't hurt Mayweather then I have overrated his power. I think Floyd is going to get hurt.In less than six weeks how much power Canelo does or does not have will be on display unless of course he can't hit Floyd with clean power punches. Canelo said he will try to hit Floyd hard and often to the body. He just turned 23 and he improves with every fight.
Very overrated. Put it this way, he has almost the same KO % as Floyd and he's been fighting lesser opposition.

No man, how could you say that, he has amazing KO wins against shot Cintron, Alfonso Gomez (doubtful stoppage), LWW Josesito Lopez and some other superstars. He's by far the most devastating puncher in boxing.
how is it that a 150lb pac had mosley running scared with every punch he landed yet 170+lb 5'9" canelo lands shot after shot after shot and mosley was still coming forward and still trying to exchange
It's actually very simple, the punch you don't see is the one that hurts and Pac has very fast hands. That's why Mayorga used to let people punch him in the face all the time because he could see the punch coming and that allowed him to take the punch.
I think people here overrate his power. He has pop, no doubt about it, but I can't see him 1 punch KO'ing a fighter (even though that straight right hand he landed on Trout was very solid and could've knocked out a lot of 54'ers). This being said, a lot of people underrate his hand speed.

He's not really a one punch KO artist. However, every punch that connects for Canelo is a hard sturdy punch. His first punch in his combination probably is as hard as his last punch in the combination.
Even amongst informed boxing fans who should know better, they see Canelo's physical size and assume he's a bigger puncher than someone who might not look as physically strong.
As always, muscle size / strength is only one aspect of many when it comes to punching power. According to Shane, Canelo and Floyd have more or less equal punching power, and it's respectable. Not bad, not great.
i remember in the late rounds he caught mosley with a good shot and mosley started to cling on...but the fact is canelo was MUCH younger, MUCH bigger, and many people expected canelo to score the stoppage...but no matter what canelo did he couldn't do it (even at the end you could see canelo was a bit disappointed that he failed to stop mosley)..and in fact mosley put on a more respectable and braver performance than many anticipated of him considering how scared and awful he looked against pac.
mosley said canelo hits about as hard as mayweather...and i think he's right...he did fight both guys afterall ...
mosley also said canelo is really fast but you wont take those words will you??
Maybe you're right I mean looking back and though Mosley won, Cano seemed to hurt Mosley a lot worse than Canelo did and far more often.
Either way I feel Canelo's not a huge puncher and a fairly mediocre one when taking his size into equation.

Well yeah, he's been Ko'ing everyone from Matthew Hatton and Lovemore N'dou to Lanardo Tyner and Larry Mosely; that brutal Trout KO was a definite KOTY as well. He definitely doesn't have one punch knockout power but his combination punching to the body and head is pretty impressive.
I don't remember this. At one point, Mosley was clinging for his life. Punches rocked his head back in such a way....man, it was hard to watch.

I think it was the speed, explosiveness and angles that 'shook' Mosley against Pacquaio.
I don't feel it was a clear indicator that Manny hits harder than Canelo & there is different types of power. I'd say Canelo was more heavy handed but Pacquaio is a lot faster and hits you from crazy angles, shots you don't see coming, hes a southpaw too.
it's not just about not being able to knockdown mosley...its the fact that he couldn't even get mosley to respect his power AT ALL...

i think mosley was right when he said that canelo hits about as hard as mayweather...
and canelo stopping a career 140lber in josesito lopez isn't that big of a deal...and stopping gomez, cintron, etc? lol

Not saying I disagree, I just think it's funny when someone says "he has no punching power even though he's knocked other people out with ease". I think perhaps referring to the Hatton fight would have been a much better point for his argument.
