Was the promotional cold war the best thing that happened to boxing?

yeah but we better milk it for all its worth before the bubble pops.

Is it sustainable long term should be the question. It might be great right now, but its going to crash eventually

2013 is going down, for me personally, as the best year for boxing. So many great fights, so many great undercards and we're only halfway through! That being said, many thought the cold war between Top Rank and Golden boy was a bad thing for boxing. Instead, we're seeing the promotional companies forced to make the fights and stack the undercards. What are your thoughts? Yes and no. The great fights we've seen so far this year are inhouse tr and GBP fights so they probably wuld've happened. But the networks are putting on better cards-which is a direct result of competition. We still get the same mismatches-manny/rios for example-where the promoter sells "action" rather than "competitive fights". we still lose out on the fights we most want-floyd/manny, floyd/tim, mares/garcia, mares/donaire, rigo/mares, broner/rios-because of the promoter war.

The cold war between TR and GBP is nothing new. The break up between HBO and GBP/Haymon/Mayweather is what's making the difference. Broner vs Malignaggi was a HBO leftover, for example. People now don't expect to see Showtime making Broner vs tomato cans, Canelo vs cab drivers, Berto vs ??? Showtime has limited resources, It can't afford to waste money on garbage fights. So it's getting better... Limited resources? Showtime is owned by CBS which grosses 4 bil annually. This deal will GBP allows them to expand their boxing budget because they have the stable of fighters to invest in. They have always had the money.

This is true however it would be nice to see some of the fights that can't happen due to promotional differences.
