he ducked Margarito after he said he would fight the winner of Tony-Cotto
that's what led to MY favorite DLH fight...his retirement fight vs the cherrypicked Pacquiao
Meh...He was a million years old. Im a fan of both. I probably actually like Antonio more, but even an old Oscar would have beat up Tony.
Even if Tony had cement gloves he would have beat him.
I don't like seeing old legends getting beatdown vs. yound lions like Manny. That was actually pretty sad.
I think the the Hopkins fight diminished his legacy in my eyes. He was clearly winning the fight. The way he went down grimacing in pain was unbecoming of a true champion. I think De la Hoya did a heck of a lot for the sport but when you put his record against some of the all time greats and some of the current greats you'll see it was special enough but not spectacular.
You ever been hit with a monsterous left hook to the liver by someone 2 weight classes above you?
Yea, I didn't think so...It didn't diminish sh1t. You cannot take any of the great wins from DLH because he got KO'd by one of the greatest MW of all time.
For me DLH's best fight was the Ike Quartey fight, just an action packed fight and I still don't know how Quartey stood up in that last round.

Not much you can do when you get hit in the liver by a much bigger man. I give Oscar props for even fighting B-Hop.

The life and death with Quartey.
Quartey won that IMO.
I think Quartey won it clearly. I had him win like 5 or 6 rounds in a row at one point, and ended up having it 8-4 Quartey. I scored it not that long ago, either.
Oscar was a great fighter and never ducked anybody,he always went after the best.
Floyd v ODH, BHOP v ODH, Manny v ODH, Tito v ODH, Mosley v ODH 1 and 2. and the Sweet Pea, STurm and Quartey fights where they should've gotten the decision.
my 1st favorite fight involving De La Hoya was vs Hopkins. My second favorite fight involving De La Hoya was vs Mayweather. And Third I liked his fight with Ricardo Mayorga.
It was like his 8th or 9th fight as a pro or something...dude put him on his ass and then Oscar came back and beat the piss outta him...I'm gonna go youtube it now.

Oscar didn't "go after" anyone. They went after him. Until he was beaten by Trinidad his Brains Trust was careful the way they matched him. The had to have an advantage usually unseen by the fans. After the loss he became less careful and agreed to the Mosley fight when Mosley was in top form. His reason for this was mainly because mosley badgered him into it ( a lesser version of Tarver/Jones) It was a bitter local n eighbourhood rivalry and Mosley had been attacking Oscar over supremacy for a long time, even when they were lightweights. I think this may have been his reason for skipping the 140 lb class' he was chasing Oscar.
Sorry-I forgot. his fight that I like best is the Mosley 1, it was a great fight.
