He had a part in it. But will he ever reach the heights with another fighter?
a part in it?
he trained ward from the time he was a child... he taught him how to fight. the guy knows how to train fighters.
is he way over the top in the corner?
yes. is any great trainer as great as the great fighters he produces? no.
hunter is still one of the planet's top trainers, and he knows exactly how to train a fighter.
advice to bsceners that NE should also heed:
don't feed the trolls.
I think Pedro Diaz or Nazim would be a great choice for Khan. Khan is what he is and you cant turn him into some kind of defensive wizard. Diaz and Nazim are great fight tacticians and could formulate a good game plan than maximizes what khan does best.
He takes in "fighters" and tries to make them into "boxers". It doesnt work, you're not gonna turn a guy who loves to punch into a defensive wizard
No, he does not. Do your homework. He actually said that he wanted to re-establish the old Berto. Working on speed and being explosive and throwing that Mayweather-wannabe style he tried to do with Guerrero out of the window.
The thing with Berto is that he rarely listens anymore. Even Morgan struggled with him later in his career and he was with him for years. Hunter can't fix a broken fighter and Berto sought Hunter, not the other way around.
Virgil can't turn water into wine.
He wasn't going to fix Berto in one camp. It's already too late to fix him anyway. Virgil is just collecting an extra paycheck.
Yes, again this. Virgil knows Andre is to smart to fight dozens of times. Virgil is cashing out.
Never considered Virgil a great trainer, his one claim to fame is Andre Ward, whom he has trainer for years. I think it is a big mistake for guys like Khan and Berto to hire Virgil..his training style completely nullifies what they do best..his style of training takes them out of their natural styles. Not saying he is a bad trainer, but definitely not helping alot of the fighters that have started using him. In my opinion, Mayweather Sr and Nacho are currently the best trainers in the world by far, followed by Pedro Diaz, Nazim, and Roach, but Roach is on the decline.
Again. Yes this.
I think Mayweather Sr. is a better trainer, personally. Floyd looked as good as he's looked in years this past fight with Sr. in his corner. And wasn't Sr. with Oscar back when he was P4P #1?
Sr. doesn't get enough credit, imo. That said, Sr. was a complete clown and embarrassment when he trained Hatton.

He does not take fighters. He takes high profile fighters he can make money off. Win or lose.

He's been training Ward since he was like nine years old so he's clearly part of his success and knows boxing. Now when more boxers are familiar with Hunter they want to work with him. I don't see why Virgil would be just money grabbing. I see a man who takes his job seriously.
I see a man who struck a gold mine with Andre. And is looking for more, all the while having no problem searching through crap and taking money. Virgil Hunter is a scoundrel.
hes not a miracle worker lol, he gets hard headed fighters- khan wants to be mike tyson but has the chin of a 10 yr old, berto wants to be floyd mayweather but is too limited. i read a thing from bertos old trainer when they split he said to berto "when you did what i told you to do did u ever fail" something like that and berto said no. just dumb
these guys come to him he doesnt call them
