What fighters at some point in their career did you feel would turn out to be better, more popular, more successful or greater than they are? Who disappointed you when you had the upmost confidence in them?
I'll start off with Berto. You go straight to the 2:40 mark of Round 7 in his fight against Angel Rodriguez and it just became more fuel to my thought that he was the next big thing. That his blend of speed, power and athleticism would propel him.
However the Collazo fight took a lot of steam off of his impressive showings and there was no rematch to right a close victory.
Recently James Degale, seemed a real talent to me but just couldn't put it together.
Bit premature on that one don't ya think? Dagale's a solid skilled fighter who is still early on in his career. He hasn't suffered any devastating career impacting losses; he just hasn't been matched up properly. He's a fun fighter to watch and I expect him to do some good things in the sport.
I expected Khan to atleast become unified champ at 140
Bradley duck
Peterson scandal
followed by Garcia KO
Just left him no where.
Now he's getting old and he will only just decline with his weight and age, not good for his style of boxing.
How can you laugh at Kahn being named, nearly everyone in the UK hates him, and that's uncommon for a boxer who fights internationally to have his home country not even supporting him around here.
Dominick guinn was the one HW i thought would do better. Great chin, power in both hands but he never could let his hands go with confidence & he was shattered when he lost to monte barrett. The fights with dokiwari & michael grant had me excited along with joe mesi but guinn was never the same when his "0" was gone...
What? :lol1: He isn't done, he still has potential, and time to reach it.
I'm losing faith in him though, I though by now he'd have had at least one fight with a big name. Now he's getting booed fighting Darley Perez and getting knocked down by Michael Farenas, good fighters, but not near the natural talent Gamboa possesses.
