"There was no doubt that the count did not reach 10 prior to Malik getting up," Goossen wrote to the British Boxing Board of Control. "The referee reached nine and simultaneously Malik got up. Whether or not 10 had to be verbally stated by the referee or just the elapsed time of 10 occurring, the facts will show neither happened in this case.
"Bottom line, Malik was up at the count of nine. The key is the decision was ruled a KO and not a TKO and subsequently the referee is required to count to 10 or, at the least, not wave the fight off until a full 10 seconds had elapsed, which it did not. A TKO would have allowed the referee to call the fight anytime before the count of 10. We've requested the British Boxing Board of Control to review the video and have asked to have the KO result changed to a no-contest."
It seems a bit strong to me to have it turned into a N/C. It seems like Goosen is intent to protect Scott's unbeaten record, because that's really all he had going for him at the age of 32.
What do you think?
I thought Scott was well on his way to winning a decision in this fight, and I was very disappointed with the stoppage.
That said, Malik should have gotten up at 8 so that the ref was sure of his intention to continue the fight.
Refs always meet with fighters before the fight and explain how they will officiate the fight and what things they will be looking for in case of a knockdown.
With that, I have to believe that Malik was made well aware of how the ref would interpret his reluctance to get up at 8. In the ref's mind, he probably felt as if Malik did not want to continue.
A lesson learned for a fighter who used to be undefeated.
If this is overturned I am hereby announcing Chisora as the most unlucky guy in the HW division.
2 times has Wlad pulled out of a fight, been robbed against Helenius for a EBU belt and a #1 ranking and now having turned his best win into a NC for something that wasn't his fault.
Damn.
It wont however, because just as in every other sport referees make errors, they're human (allegedly).
His mistake literally decided the fight. It wasn't an interpretation call like waving a fight off if he thought he wasn't fit. Question is why are judges allowed to make such mistakes without provision. Refs are given too much power
In the same fight the ref counted Tyson out on 9. Better make it an NC...
Douglas was allowed to get up at nine and Tyson was in far worse shape than Scott.
Mike Tyson would have had a ko over ol' Buster Douglas if the ref hadn't let him get up at 9. Carry on...
In the same fight the ref counted Tyson out on 9. Better make it an NC...
Just wondering if that means the bookies may void bets?
betting services generally go by fight night results, but i am not sure about your bookie, homie, rofl.
well we can start doing that. this will teach them not to fu-ck up. boxing fans are so used to fu-cking up that they have learned to live with it.

So do you NC every fight when there has been an error in officiating?
because we both know that's a long list comprising most of the fights that take place.

well scott did nothing wrong according to the rules. we have rules to take human bias out of the equation. if you don't NC it you let moron refs supplant the rules. chisora didn't actually beat scott under the rules of boxing so i don't feel bad for taking away a win he shouldn't have. maybe next time warren will get a better ref.

Malik played with the count, did he change it to 9 instead of 10?
if malik scott played baseball............strike 2 you're out!
then fans of the other team would say "hey he should have swung! forget the rules!"
The way I see it:
Ref - messed up the count
Scott - should've got up sooner (I think he agrees at this point)
Chisora - did nothing wrong
You NC it, who do you penalise most? the guy who did nothing wrong.
I appreciate some will argue Scott did nothing wrong but it's like Bryant Jennings said 'Malik played with the count'.

Scott - Did nothing wrong, cheated, has a false loss

lol do we have to take everything to the extremes of murder?
I think NC-ing the fight would be very harsh on Chisora, he is the real innocent party in all this and the one who stands to lose most from the NC.
Thats not an extreme at all.
He doesnt deserve the win so why should he have it? Im sure scotts stands to lose more with a loss than a NC, and was the only who was actually cheated
chisora should be mad at the ref for cheating for him. that doesn't mean he gets a free win based on a 9 count. maybe the stupid refs will think twice next time they try to cheat and stop fights early. cleverly's main plan just got thrown out the window against kovalev. he's sweating.
i would say scott has the most to lose since he actually lost unfairly. chisora got a free win that he didn't deserve. i don't feel bad taking away something he didn't deserve. maybe he would have won but boxing doesn't work on maybe's unless you are a mayweather fan. next time don't cheat and we will see who wins.

Its like saying if a cop arrests the wrong guy for murder, they should just punish the cop instead of releasing the prisoner.

Right, so why rob Chisora twice over .5 of a second? Rather just take action against the ref.
