@MartinMurrayBox @boxingelitist So who are you training for? You have a opponent lined up yet? I know it aint GGG.
Martin Murray @MartinMurrayBox 1h
Just ticking over ATM. Not got a date or an opponent yet.
To be honest, I can't blame Murray if he avoids GGG. He's been robbed in two of his last four fights and probably wants to register a win before getting back in with a legitimate beast. I would love to see the fight, but two back to back defeats would put Murray's career back a long, long way.
Plus we don't know the financial terms governing this fight. GGG says he would fight in the UK, but is Murray a big enough name to make that fight financially viable yet?
I could see the other belt holders choosing other options.
But Golovkin is the WBA champion. If the top contender (Murray) won't fight him then move on to the next highest ranked fighter.
As long as he's fighting his mandatories (the ones who don't pass on the opportunity) then people can't be too critical of his opposition. Just don't resort to fighting junior middleweights again.
golovking is like the opposite-calzaghe. calzaghe fought mandatories in order to avoid everyone good, everyone good avoided golovking so he has to fight mandatories.

Hatton didn't explicitly say that the fight wasn't happening, just that GGG was one of several options. I don't think it'll happen, at least I got that much from Murray's post-fight reaction to GGG/Macklin. Barker didn't look too excited about the possibility of fighting GGG either.
Yeah all about cherry picking, I picked the right time to fight Tsyzu... Hmmmm, and am learning from my old mentor Fwank warren on how to cherry pick, so am going to be doing the same with my players..
So is Murray going to avoid GGG like the Plaque?
Murray has been to Germany to fight Sturm and Argentina to face Sergio. Hardly think one can label him a cherry picker quite yet.
Did I miss something? I thought the article was about comments made by Hatton not Murray?
hatton is his promoter. he doesn't want to see his fighter completely destroyed. just like dibella said golovking is too dangerous for martinez.
champ. sergio martinez-refuses to fight golovking
1. golovking
2. daniel geale-refuses to fight golovking
3. felix sturm-refuses to fight golovking
4. peter quillin-refuses to fight golovking
5. julio cesar chavez-refuses to fight golovking
6. martin murray-refuses to fight golovking
7. mathew macklin-fought golovking and was instantly destroyed
8. hassan ndam-refuses to fight golovking
9. darren barker-refuses to fight golovking
10. max bursak-has not refused to fight golovking as of yet. will he accept the challenge?
Champ Martinez is taking more than 6 months off to recover from injuries, Geale says he will fight him, Barker's promoter had issues not Barker, Murray's promotor had issues, not Murray............if you want to place blame at least place it correctly.
Either fight lesser ranked guys, move down or move up.....problem solved. I'm sure Froch, Kessler, Ward or Bute would fight 3G and he can beat all of them and become famous while doing it.
And people wonder why GGG's record isn't stacked with more top contenders
Here's the reason - they all fcking avoid him
There's no excuse for Murray, they even said they'd fight him in the UK... definitely lost some of my respect, what a *****.

N'Dam is in a bad position right now though, I think he may not even have a promoter. Maybe more receptive to Golovkin with half decent money attached to it?
You might be right. I read NDam was in the running for the Rosado date, but vetoed by HBO for being too chinny. At this point he's probably the best option, though Mora might be trickier

What happened there? I thought it really was six figures but he didn't want him to take that step up.
I don't blame Ricky though. Murray is a flavor of the month an building his name could help for a potential fight... but it's more of that cooking B.S we hate. Most likely a domestic fight
His promoter Peltz admitted it was 100K but Jennings seemed to have only heard the 25k lie from him.
From what I understand Guerrero was willing to fight Golovkin but they went with Macklin. Guerrero isn't rated top 15 by any organisation right now.
N'Dam apparently ducked Golovkin for years, it would be surprising to see a u-turn. The other thing is that fight would last 1 round.
N'Dam held the WBA interm belt and after 2 years of ducking he relinquished the belt rather than unify with Golovkin. A Sturm fight would be more likely to happen.

Well Golovkin's team are probably getting a bit desperate right now. Lots of Golovkin's fights have the capacity of lasting only one round. N'dam is actually pretty good, I probably rate him over Macklin.
To be fair most of the top players in the division have various options and if you had alternatives to getting your skull or ribs crushed in by Golovkin wouldn't you take it? Disappointing as a fan but I can understand it. Golovkin may have to move up or down to find the fights he and HBO want. I have my doubts that Martinez will ever actually fight him either, unless of course he fails to get either Canelo or Mayweather some time next year. I suspect that Martinez will prioritize Cotto over Golovkin too. I think the winner of Geale and Barker will have to fight Sturm, the WBA seem to have some love affair with Sturm and if Geale wins he seems happy enough to rematch Sturm. What about N'Dam and Guerrero? If Golovkin beats them easier than Quillin then that has some meaning. Then there is Pirog, i'm not sure about the state of his back though.

Curtis Stevens has been calling him out, maybe that fight gets made or maybe HBO will actually sign off on Bursak since they did so on Proksa.
I agree however, it's a poor show all round from the top 10 in that division (Macklin aside).

GGG not a big enough name yet!
Figh will be on PPV in the future
This is horrible at this point. It will only get worse each time he crushes whoever steps up, too. And no matter how obviously these guys duck, the haters will blame GGG.
there's almost nobody left. lee and rubio also didn't want to fight golovking. sergio mora i guess but hbo don't want that crap. what a cowardly division.
