Just watched the Hopkins-Calzaghe and forgot that Cortez split the fighters up 60 times in the first 3 rds bc of Hopkins one punch/holding/hooking but decides to warn Calzaghe. Cortez is such a horrible referee and think he's totally incompentent.
Please post more Cortez typical door-knob humping attention span screw-ups.
What has Bayless done? He's one of the best refs in the game.
Personally I don't like Bayless bc I've seen too many premature stoppages. Maybe I'm letting other bad refs shine on Bayless.
I do know he warns fighters but never follows up and the fighters continue with the act in question.
Or like Cortez waiting til the last 3 rds to actually threaten point deductions, even in the final waning minute of rd 12
Never cared for him for the already aforementioned reasons, I wish there were more refs like:
Mercante SR/JR
Mills Lane
Frank Capuccino (spelling?)
Steve Smoger
Richard Steele
Mercante Jr. was horrible

i can point out numerous times when hopkins had hands free and the ref broke them so what were you watching? calzaghe got hit with a big shot twice and turned his back twice during the fight. hopkins was strong enough to spin calzaghes entire body around with one glove? you should really think about what you are saying. calzaghe turned to avoid punishment. should have been dq'd for cowardice. you ever seen the bika fight? calzaghe held the entire fight just like he was doing againt hopkins and he even faked a low blow to buy time. so ironic. it's because he needs room to throw his slap furries and when someone gets close he just clinches to get a break and reset. even against lacy he held on the inside a ton. lacy a complete bum lol.
Calzaghe held some but no where near the amount of Hopkins.
I should watch what I say?? Thanks for the crap advice
Yah you can spin someone around with one arm. Grab the opponents hip, side step and throw the hip off to the side. Be surprised how body mechanics work
No he's retired. The Maywether BS KO of Ortiz was one of his worst. Fighters should have been in their neutral corners. He didnt even see the punches land.
that was his best performance. he hadn't even signaled time in to the timekeeper. should have been floyd's third loss. let's go does not equal time in. refs start the clock then say time in cept he apparently did it backwards? makes no sense. cortez hall of shame with richard steele who let roger mayweather come in the ring and start beating the other fighter without dq'ing floyd.
Really??? What were you watching? Are you just looking for an argument???
Reason why Calzaghe had his back to Hopkins was the direct result of Hopkins hooking Calzaghe's hip.

He's not still reffing is he?
He must be 1000 years old.

it was actually calzaghe holding on the inside for the first part of that fight. hopkins had hands free and cortez would break them. calzaghe even disgracefully turned his back a couple times to avoid punches. calzaghe needed the breaks to reset and fire off more slap punches. yes hopkins started holding late in the fight when he was tired but calzaghe couldn't fight on the inside and was blessed with cortez being the ref. hopkins wasn't able to fight on the inside or get breathers like he normally does.

Cortez is probably the worst big fight ref ever. His involvement in fights was ridiculous, he actually changed the pace of fights. You'd think he was a WWE Ref by how much he gets involved
