See, in the movie Rocky, it's about 2 FLAT FOOTED boxers, exc Appolo, banging it out...blow from blow....%0 defense.
You got guys like Rocky yelling "HIT ME" HIT ME" and casual fans and boxing fans want to see that, they think that boxing should look exactly like the movie Rocky, 2 guys just slugging it out.
The term boring boxer wasn't as popular until the movie Rocky.
Now when you don't stand infront of a opponent with your hands down and allow yourself to get hit cleanly, it's called being bored, coward.
Ok so what its the fans money they spend on whoever they want to spend it on to watch. Are you ****ing retarded? Rigo is boring i mean if he was the main event fighter everybody would leave after watching the undercard i can appreciate his boxing skills and the way he can dominate opponents but would i tell my friends to watch him hell no!! He is so good hes unwanted hes avoided hes put down nobody wants to watch him. Asians mexicans americans british europeans africans nobody just no entairtainment value at all what so ever with him. We cant force him to be like rocky or even try to be gamboa you get what you get. Fans want to watch fights like gatti ward so they can get up off there chairs and cheer for there fighter they want excitment thrills hell if i had a choice of watching rigo giving an asswooping to another fighter or watch this years foty canidate bradley prov. i would choose bradley fight any day every day
do you think in roman times spectators wanted to see a guy stabbed to death? hell no they wanted to see his head removed from his body
that's only because they watched Rocky
Rigondeaux-Donaire was a battle of two counter punchers, people need to chill out. I remember when Mayweather was labeled as boring solely for his performance against Baldomir, and that stuck with him for a while after. It's all styles, put Rigondeaux in there against any aggressive fighter and he'll do serious damage.
This exactly, didn't yall see Angulos face?!
What happened to the people who where saying Rigo was a good smack talkee during the build up to the Donaire fight?
HBO has been very quiet concerning thus Rigo issue, it's like they letting Arum do the dirty work for them coz they don't want to come out and say it themselfs.
Hopefully Rigo can fight on showtime if HBO is really serious about not showcasing him and not just trying to force Rigo to change his style. I've got a feeling Arum won't want to allow him to fight on Showtime for whatever reason he makes up.
And before that he was making 25,000 per fight. If he holds out for 6 figure paydays then he has nobody to blame but himself. He's 31 and cant speak english. What else is gonna do go work at Wal-Mart?
he made more than that (25k) when he was on hbo and showtime. he made 150 k against marroquin. he's probably made about a million dolalrs in purses at this stage. if he wanted to move to a foreign country and retire he could do it easily. cuba would be the intuitive leap, but that country doesn't work like that, so he won't go back there.
again, rigondeaux has to run a full training camp with a top trainer, and pay good sparring partners to get into shape. after he pays his manager and trainer he will hardly break even with a purse like that. they'd never take that fight unless it was purely to stay busy with the notion that another payday is coming down the pike.
his people will not take a fight for 25k. they'd rather sue top rank and get out of that contract, i'd guess. that's what i'd do most likely, but i'd have to see what the deal looks like.

You're right, Rocky is directly correlated to Rigos "issues" :lol1:
I said it before after the Cunningham vs. Adamek circus act, fighters need promoters who really care about them and Rigo doesn't have one. I was thinking that maybe if he spoke english, they would try harder, then I'm reminded of the circus act!! Steve dominated Adamek and first thing Duva said amidst everyone screaming robbery was basically " yea yea Steve will be back, but GIVE IT UP to Adamek YAAAAAAY!!!" Manny, Nonito,Nelo, Broner ALL got where they are by being set up to knockout overly aggressive, undersized BUMS!!!! Bottom line is IF they WANTED, they could push Rigo as some super duper boxer, IF THEY WANTED...:boxing:
So Barrera and Morales were BUMS when Manny fought them? LOL let's try not to forget that Manny had a career prior to his win over Oscar and what came after that. Manny just like Floyd, Roy Jones, Oscar, Leonard all had that "IT" factor about them. That goes beyond just being a "good" fighter. Rigo is without a doubt one of the most skilled fighters in the world today, but he's got 3 things going against him as far as being a crossover star:
1. Speaks absolutely no English
2. His style isn't a fan friendly style
3. He has no personality
If you look at the names mentioned above, each has "at least" one of these qualities the Networks and promoters can work with. Floyd early on wasn't selling any kind of tickets, even in his hometown. Once the money persona came in, a new crossover star was born. The promoter can only do so much. Hell, they even try getting fights for him in Miami (which is the US biggest Cuban population) and you'd think the Cubans would hold him in high esteem...when in reality they ask, "Quién coño es Rigo?".
I'm not all familiar with his division, but do you think Rigo has a chance of fairing better over here in Europe? Not sure how many fighters he could drag over here, but i'm sure his titles alone can hype up a fight somehow.
europe i tend to doubt. asia may be different, but they don't have a very consistent market. christ john at 126 might be a possibility.
he made 750 for donaire and won. he's now a top 5 p4p fighter. generally you don't take a massive paycut and get booted from your network after that.
honestly, if he's not making good money, he'll probably elect not to fight at all. rigondeaux may retire.

Who said he has to make 6 figures? Who knows maybe after November TR lets Rigo out of his contract. Then GB offers him a couple hundred grand to fight Mares or Santa Cruz.

People have to look at it for what it is, excitement attracts people, period. Case in point, A month ago if you asked a normal sports fan who Gennady Golovkin was, you'd get a http://www.the-coli.com/images/smilies/what.png
He KO's Macklin with a solid body shot, makes Sportscenter highlights, gets on CNN, and some other sports shows I came across, and the following day I get asked by a friend who's a casual and asks, "Yoo who's that Russian guy who fought Saturday??".
Also, think about the majority of people who bought De La Hoya vs Mayweather. People really believe they bought that fight to see a tactical fight? Man, people wanted Oscar to KTFO of Floyd, hence when it got the rounds 6 and 7 (at least based on my experience) people forgot about the fight and just kept partying. Boxing as a whole isn't for everybody, but if it were JUST Boxing fans who tuned and or bought PPVs, the sport would be in serious jeopardy.
i think it's laughable that you guys think top rank, hbo, and showtime are dumb.
these are multimillion dollar entities. they know exactly how to operate.
This is getting ridiculous. You guys are on here acting like Rigo's dead or his careers over. In fact his manager just told Percy Crawford that all they have to do is find another network (not an impossible task). It's also in his his contract that TR have to find him a fight by November. So he's already in the gym waiting.
where are you going to go?
hbo and showtime are the only people in the states who can afford to pay a 122 lber six (maybe even seven,) figures consistently.
nbc sports? there's no way the'll take the fight, unless they can get it for cheap.
espn?
have fun taking your split of a ten grand main event. paying sparring that will actually get rigo in shape costs more than 10 grand.

no they could not. if they could make more money with rigo they would. what you wrote is complete BS. complete BS. he's 122 lbs, cuban, in his 30's, speaks no english, has the personality of a sack of flour, and has a very boring style to the casual fan.
add in how good he is, and how bad he'll make you look, and he's the perfect storm of a fighter who will not get fights
No not at all, but I am saying is they now have this NOTION in there head, that "Boxing should be this"
Yet the irony is, I feel your posts have a hint that chess match boxing is a more legitimate form of boxing than brawling/Rocky type stuff - when in reality they are both part of the sport.
The phrase "Boxing is hitting without being hit" I feel has been developed on boards like this because of such arguments. It isn't a fact though I can see why people find it an attractive term to use, especially when they have an agenda for a fighter who isn't particularly exciting.
If you're fighting under licence under the Queensbury rules, you're Boxing, whatever style you have..
And ofc, Rigo was going to suffer even if Rocky wasn't there. He has a very boring style of fighting, unless you like that kind of thing. On top of that, he has little to no personality that comes across to the audience. Mayweather is boring too, however it's his personality that makes him a draw.
The problem is with Rigo, not with Rocky.. lol
his almost purely negative style gives rigo issues with networks, promotors, and casual fans.
also, i actually saw his fights before the donaire fight, where he looked worse, and was much more boring. a lot of you guys talk about rigondeaux fights and it's clear that you haven't seen his fight with ricardo cordoba, for example. hell, when he started out he was a four or give round fighter. most of you clearly have not gotten a real look at the guy. there's a bunch of reasons why the networks won't touch him, and his style might be the biggest.
blaming a rocky movie? people knew high contact fights were more interesting before the rocky movies. come on....
also, rocky fought apollo twice, and he was as slick as they came.
They get it but because the fighters they like can't deal with it or do it they have to find a way to label it negatively. They aren't fans of boxing (the sport) they are fans of knockouts, violence, etc. which is fine.
Its like hoops fans that watch every Clippers game but wont watch San Antonio. They want to see Lob City, not Hoops 101.
There's some of that, too. What's good for the goose isn't good for the gander. As you point out, it's not just boxing fans; it's sports fans in general. Even further, people in general are okay with things as long as they happen to work for them.
:lol1: did TS really say the Rocky movie?!? LMAO
I think the problem isn't Rigo...the problem is the gullable fans who fall for the gas the suit and tie dudes be spraying through the air....Flash has been in a few fights that generated many boring rounds.....but his opponents were blamed for not opening up for his counters....just as Rigo is getting today, but add a extra dose of hate on that because Rigo actually WON the fight....it is what it is!! :boxing:
