If you like Rigondeaux and want to see more of him, you shouldn't talk trash about the guy he just beat. Everyone knows Rigo beat Donaire, but instead of celebrating the victory people are tearing it down by railing on Nonito.
Quit hating on Donaire just because he's popular and has a style that is more pleasing to the general audience (read: people who actually pay for seats at a fight). You are doing Rigo a disservice by bashing the fighter he just beat!!
Calling Donaire trash will not make Rigo more popular. It will not make people like Rigo more. It will actually make people think less of him, because by making Donaire out to be a worse fighter than he is, it makes Rigo's win look less special than it was.
Calling Donaire trash will not make other fighters want to fight Rigo. It will make them less likely to fight him, because they'll see that people he beats are dragged through the dirt. It makes Rigo an even riskier fighter for no more reward.
If you want Rigo to show up on premium network TV again the three things you should be doing are:
1) Demanding a fighter for Rigo to fight next!! Fights get made when fans demand match-ups.
2) Write HBO a letter telling them you want to see more of Rigo!! Word it politely and tell them what you enjoy about Rigo's style. If people actually do this they will pay attention.
3) Pay to see his fights!! The next time a Rigo fight is announced, make an effort to support him if you are really a fan. That's the only way he will ever grow in popularity: if people go to see his fights.
Boxing will never be a major sport if all people have to say are negative things. And Rigondeaux will never be a popular fighter i all people have to say about the guys he fought are negative things.
I love boxing scene but if you added up the total membership of this board it would make up such a tiny fraction of all the boxing fans that I doubt if what is said on here about Donaire would have any effect on Rigo's popularity at all.I understand your point that trashing Donaire detracts from Rigo's excellent win.Donaire is one hell of a fighter and it took one hell of a fighter to beat him. That win made me a huge Rigo fan.
I dont.... i say he beat the best other than himself around... now when others start talking sh*t about him trying to diminish his victory, that is complete horsesh*t and butt hurt fanboyism they deserve to be spanked and set straight and donaire might get caught in the cross fire a little, and words like schooling come out that hurt fan boys even if they are true in this inbstance but thats it.
I don't think people are hating on Nonito. They're hating on the people that are hating on how Rigo thoroughly dismantled him. There aren't many cases where a top pfp fighter gets embarrassed like that in their prime. Most have excuses, Donaire was a beast when Rigo mollywhopped him.
RIGO IS DONAIRE's DADDY!!!!
Donaire got away with beating up on little midgets but he messed with the wrong midget and got schooled haha. I remember all the crap and threads Donaire fans were posting on how Donaire was going to murder Rigondeaux, the fight will go past 3 rounds, Donaire mocking Rigo with the eye level crap and Donaire posting a video of his him trying to be a badass calling Rigo's team and telling him he needs to stop disrespecting him like if he was a A star celebrity like Pacquiao.......FVCK OUT HERE!! DONAIRE CAN SUCK ON SOME CUBAN PINGA!!!!
Donaire is a very talented boxer who can fight hard and has skills far above average!!
Rigo is a highly skilled boxer who prefers not to fight instead uses counter moves to counter punch!!
The biggest difference between these two as opponents is the fact that the higher skilled boxer is a "southpaw" and the boxer/fighter couldn't adjust to Rigo's style. A clever southpaw is difficult to deal with when your a great fighter let alone a highly skilled one against a very good fighter!!
To defeat Rigo Donaire must get into incredible condition and be prepared to make the fight extremely "Ugly" to watch!! His feet must be quicker and he must be able to "steer" Rigo into positions where Donaire could get off! It won't be easy but I do think if Rigo can be slowed a little Donaire woul have a shot at stopping him late! Rigo is a tall order for Donaire but challenges are what boxing used to be about!! Ray
A lot of fighters will take on someone who will beat them easily but nobody will take on someone who will bring no fans to their event and make them look bad in the process. That's Rigo's biggest problem right now and it's not helped by people calling everyone he fights trash. More people might see him if you promote his accomplishments rather than diminishing them. That includes giving credit to the people he fought when it is due.
How is calling a fighter good trashing him?
Donaire was never great to me, he was a good fighter with a over-rated resume. I'm not going to change my view now to say he was great when I've never thought it, just to make one of my favourite fighters sound better - Rigo's ability speaks for itself.
Rigo will beat anyone he fights and is one of the best on the planet - that's the promotion he needs.
I fully support Rigo and talk him up whenever possible.
I will not however lie to make things sound better. I said pre-fight that Donaire was a good fighter that had an over-rated resume, I still say the same thing now. Guys don't want to fight someone who will beat them easily, nothing I can do about that.

Donaire deserves all the trash talking against him! Donaire was a damn top 5 p4p and didn't do shyyytt in the Rigo fight to win. Rigo made him look like a confused fool!
I was highly disappointed in the Donaire's performance in that fight.
I was disappointed too. Donaire didn't seem equipped to handle Rigo's movement and spared aggression. He looked lost for an answer in that match. I don't think he at all expected the patience and discipline that Rigo fought with. He wasn't prepared to put pressure on Rigo and when he finally did try it (with some success) it was far too late in the fight and Rigo adjusted quickly.
A bad styles match-up and poor performance against a great counterpuncher doesn't make Donaire a bad fighter. It makes Guillermo Rigondeaux a great counterpuncher who beat a top p4p guy.
He mopped the floor with a flavor-of-the-month. I was never excited about Norigo. Never called him P4P. Doesnt mean Rigo wouldnt mop up alot of other dudes. Youre reaching but dont trip.. i will still support Rigo whilst bashing Nonino.
Flavor of the month? Donaire maintained his winning streak for years. That's a lot longer than a month lol.
Nonito Donaire was the best and most accomplished fighter south of welterweight for a long long time. He was and still is a pound-for-pound fighter, without question.
You can feel free to disagree with that. But if you do, you make Rigo's win against Donaire look a lot less meaningful. You would be taking the attitude of a lot of casual fans who think all fighters below lightweight are trash.

So you are okay with a fighter you support not getting TV dates, attracting new fans or even willing opponents?
Well okay but instead you could try promoting the fighter you support, instead of tearing down the guys he fought to make yourself feel better about his situation.

Feel free to hate on whoever you want. I'm simply saying that hating on Donaire doesn't help Rigo, it hurts him by diminishing his accomplishment. Either he beat a top p4p fighter or he didn't. Which is it?
Exactly. :boxing:

What is your problem, trying to spread logic to some of these dumbasses shytting on Donaire.
Nishioka wasn't shot?
I'm not remotely surprised people dont want to fight Rigo, I know how it works. Guys aren't exactly big on fighting someone who is better than them unless it makes them huge money. Why go in with Rigo to catch an ass-whooping when you could fight easier opponents for similar money? I get it.
Donaire did it, caught the ass-whooping and he was the best of the rest. That will have made others even less excited about taking that fight.

Well okay but instead you could try promoting the fighter you support, instead of tearing down the guys he fought to make yourself feel better about his situation. Calling everyone besides him a trash fighter means that all his fights will be trash fights.
Its called ""Eating Crow" and thats what you get when you blow up a dudes record when its made of **** fights and overblown acomplishments. Dont like it? Make better, more informed picks next time.

Nishioka wasn't shot to pieces, that's revisionist BS. Arce was the weakest of the four, fair enough. Mathebula and Vazquez Jr. are good fighters that Donaire beat and with not much controversy. The only guy that had near Donaire's claim on FOTY last year was Marquez with his Pacquiao KO.
Feel free to represent Rigo any way you want. But if you give no credit to the people he fights (and beats) then don't be surprised if nobody feels like risking their name and earning power against him in return.

1) he will have to move up to 126 or stick around at 122 and settle for what Arum gives him which will be Vazquez jr or Arce ($$$).
2) For some reason I picture that letter falling into Arum's lap. We all know how he feels about Rigo's fan base and boxings hardcore fans. Lol.
3) I'd pay PPV if he was on but as mentioned earlier, he never headlined a card before. Most of his fights have been on PPV undercards (Pacquiao's mostly). The Donaire fight was his first HBO headline and it was Donaire the supposed superstar.
My opinion is give him a shot at headlining him in his current hometown. He deserves that at least. Bring down an HBO card to Miami and use the Heat games to promote the fight. Im pretty sure he will get a decent showing and who knows, fan base may grow a bit. It may be tough but at least give it a shot. Promoters just dont want to promote now a days. Thats the bottom line.
