Freddie Roach is now training Miguel Cotto. Roach's defensive style (use your legs / none) and midrange attack might work for Cotto, but Freddie hasn't done well lately. What do you guys think?

Freddie hasn't had a fighter win in like a year.... and that's over the span of how many fights?
Shoot, it all started in April with Senchenko
That's the issue for Cotto more so than his trainer or him being past prime. Cotto just isn't cut out for 154. He is best when he is the stronger fighter in the ring and can use his physical attributes to his advantage. If Cotto fought Bradley, JMM, Guerrero, and Berto at 147, what would his record be? I like his chances against any of them.
True. Cotto fights small. He actually crouches! Trout was a horrible choice.
At this stage of Cotto's career, it doesn't matter who trains him. You can't teach an old dog new tricks and Pedro Diaz was about as good as a defensive trainer as you can get.
I think Cotto is just trying to make excuses as to why he's not winning. The reality is, that Cotto is just not a prime fighter anymore.

Agree with you.
I agree, plus imo he needs to be fighting at 47, he is not a 154 pounder.

I agree he just got lazy and was tired of putting in hard work to get down to 147.

freddie is never a bad idea
Tony Morgan bertos old trainer is looking for a new top level fighter he has some good up and comers but needs that A list guy and i think cotto was training down here it would have been perfect for both of them
dumb move. His moves become dumber every fight he makes. First dumps his uncle.. ok family problems whatever. But picks his "best friend" inexperienced trainer. He gets tore up in Clottey and Pacquiao. Goes to Emmanuel Steward, great move actually. Leaves, goto Pedro Diaz good move again, but leaves now. Goes to Freddie Roach who is professional declining and physically declining with his disease. No disrespect to Freddie, but still retarded move. He was better off with Diaz and actually listen to him and learn and not be so hard headed.
Pedro Diaz was probaly the best thing for him; Roach style will lead him to more beatings
Yeah, maybe, but Cotto has always been an offesiveminded fighter. Diaz and the cubans regularly cater to great fundamental defense. I think Roach is perfect for Cotto. Plus he knows which are Cottos good qualities and what to focus on.. Not his damn straight I hope.
