First the Ref doesn't stop it and when he does he gives Price a standing 8 count, eventually stopping it for good.
Ref's should not referee a fight were his compatriot is in the same ring "to many emotions" in the air!
There is a difference between leaning on the ropes and being held up by them.
The rules say it is a knockdown if the ropes are holding a fighter up, not if he leans on them in the corner. His legs were holding him up.
He made a conscious decision to turn his back on his opponent. The fight should have been stopped at that point with no count.
Price was leaning against the ropes so was fair IMO to call it a standing knockdown.
Pretty much, the fact he was being held up by the ropes is key. It excuses the ref, but you could see him thinking.
I actually prefer this way that way morons cant cry about an early stoppage like in so many fights:boxing:
This too.
It should be questioned. Has Price been in there with a real hard hitter he could have been permanently damaged while the ref stood around giving him the extra British chance.
Nothing but bile from you tonight. You wait around and wait around until a UK fighter loses then comes an outpouring of needless hate. It's not Europe's fault the US doesn't have any top HWs or CWs. Go watch the little 10st guys if you want to feel patriotic.
It's a double edged sword. A biased ref from your country will give you many chances to continue but this could mean taking more punishment than you should...
The refs are mostly biase when it comes to hometown fighters, especially in this case when he knows how Price is looking for redemption etc if he stopped it too early people would cry, if he stops it a bit later people would still cry. At the end of the day he stopped it or price himself stopped it, either way the fight got stopped.
Well I am certainly not crying.
Only thing upsets me is that Price didn't go back in there for a final kill shot to really make the ref look bad.

He stopped it so? Fight over just like I said 2 months ago when I was called an unpatriotic hater. Idiots think boxing is about lying to yourself when you no someone isn't good enough.

Well said.
Reason and logic above nationalism always.
Posted this in the master thread:
How about the stoppage, I think that even though Thompson wasn't throwing bombs Price wasn't defending himself for 20-30 seconds before the ref gave him a STANDING 8 COUNT?
I think a stoppage was in order he was done.
Although I can see how the ref did give him every chance to recover.
Price was leaning against the ropes so was fair IMO to call it a standing knockdown.
Then Price simply quit after the 8 count and the ref waved it off.
Could've made the case for waving the fight off straight away, but guess the ref didn't wanna take the risk of a premature stoppage.

He stopped it after because Price told him he quit.
I say the ref stopped it because Price was so tired he could barely lift his hands up to protect himself
Well he stopped him instantly after.
So I don't know about that. It was a weird one because Price's back was basically turned. So he either had to wave the fight off there and then or do what he did.
