Calzaghe's best wins were Eubank and Kessler.
The Hopkins fight was too damn close and required a rematch.
To call Hopkins his best fight is like saying Trinidad's best fight was De La Hoya.
eubank? unranked, drained, and never won another fight in his career. maybe that was one of his best wins which says a lot.

Pretty much every american thought the same. Once the fight was over, "Lacy hasn't really had much opposition and hes not a good indicator of how Joe would do against a great fighter".
so before the fight lacy had fought great competition? his resume was worse than berto's and his performances even worse.
Joe Calzaghe has always been very underrated outside the UK because he's not American and because he's white.
It was fun listening to Al Bernstein shat himself during the Showtime telecast when Joe gave Lacy a boxing lesson.
Bernstein had an unrealistically low opinion of Joe, and had been very confident Lacy would knock him out.

damn marciano went 49 - 0 in 8 years? thats pretty special, such a short time
calzaghe definately is underated he wasn't the most exciting but he knew how to win
Many fighters have accelerated to undefeated records in a short time...like JCC jr, Canelo etc.
Calzaghe's run is more impressive because he did it over time and kept his well into his 30s. Fought every single year with no breaks.
Well no it was HBO who didn't think Steiglitz was a good enough opponent. You know, HBO - the TV company that decides which fights they want to buy.
And once again, if you win all the titles - you've unified. You can throw them all in the bin straight after the fight. Doesn't change the fact you've unified. Deal with it. deal with him not unifying all the titles first.
laugh at yourself, Stieglitz was a better opponent than all previous 20 opponents of Joe Calzaghe's defences, yet you seem to think Stieglitz wasn't good enough for Joe fans to pay money to watch, the fans who paid for all his other fights?

Which part of "HBO weren't interested in the fight" don't you understand?
I suppose you're going to say he should forgo the chance to be on HBO to defend his title against Steiglitz in a fight no one wanted except you? :lol1: laugh at yourself, Stieglitz was a better opponent than all previous 20 opponents of Joe Calzaghe's defences, yet you seem to think Stieglitz wasn't good enough for Joe fans to pay money to watch, the fans who paid for all his other fights?
good luck with that argument, 20-1 against you.
The point is he won them all - in other words, he unified the titles. You can unify the titles and never defend them. It doesn't mean you didn't unify them. full credit for solely unifying the wbo with the ibf, and the wbo with the wba and wbc, but no further credit since he did nothing with any belt other than wbo, I agree completely.
All the defences are defences of with the worthless belt.
Joe career was better at the end than in his long reign. His best wins were against Kessler because he adjusted masterfully to beat him and an extremely over-hyped Lacy that was supposed to had taken over the division.
The Hopkins fight was very close and the Jones fight was simply too late. If you want to call Bika a top fighter I don't know what to say to that
which part of the sentence 'he could fight them both' that I've now paraphrased 3 times do you not get?

... because he chose not to defend the major titles. very good, you are catching on. if you don't defend them, you cant lose them.
In fact anyone who has ever won a major title and then chose not to defend them in the ring, can NEVER lose them in a defence.

Once again.....you're welcome.
So you wanted Calzaghe to fight a nobody for less money rather than a mega money unification with Kessler? :lol1:which part of the sentence 'he could fight them both' that I've now paraphrased 3 times do you not get?
Calzaghe won every single belt and never lost them in the ring....... because he chose not to defend the major titles. very good, you are catching on. if you don't defend them, you cant lose them.
In fact anyone who has ever won a major title and then chose not to defend them in the ring, can NEVER lose them in a defence. Calzaghe is in the company of hundreds according to you, you've just achieved the direct opposite meaning of what you were trying to argue for.
he fought manfredo instead of steigletz. he gave up his belt for one of the biggest joke fights of all time. he could of had all 4 belts when he beat kessler but he wanted an early stoppage against a bum that lost the contender. can you imagine a world champ fighting the loser of prize fighter? hilarious. even berto wouldnt do that sh-it.
HBO weren't interested in a Steiglizt fight.

The mandatory was Steiglitz if I remember correctly and HBO had no interest in showing that fight.
Andre Ward currently doesn't have a belt because of retardation like this. Everyone knows he is still the champion. You will likely never see anyone hold all 4 belts at the same time in the modern era. Calzaghe won every single belt and never lost them in the ring. Those are the salient facts.

what does being new or old to boxing have anything to do with the stone cold fact that Joe could easily have made the mandatory and then fought Kessler?

Are you new to boxing? Sanctioning bodies strip you of your title if you don't fight mandatories when they want you to.
You're welcome.

After all he was more than happy to fight wbo dumbed down mandatories for a decade. Why the change of heart when he was faced with stepping up to a bigger title?
Well, we will never know, but it does suggest that as soon as Joe realised that the competition was a step up once he had the IBF title, he wanted none of it, and the same with the major titles he took from lacy.
Not denying the fact that he clearly had good abilities to partially unify at some stage, but he wasn't a dominating force, he was pick and mix.
I don't know why people bring up race and nationality in this sort of thing ... GGG is not american and is white and he is getting tonnes of respect and hype but whatever yeah calzaghe is the second coming of Jesus etc etc
GGG will never get the same kind of respect an American fighter would be getting.
