The Sergio from the Chavez Jr fight turns up to fight GGG! Who wins?
That was a stunning performance, if that Sergio turns up and his body doesn't fail him, does he beat GGG?
I think so.
That performance was immense how he wrecked Chavez Jr inside, peppering him to death with uppercuts, had him backing up. Man Sergio in his prime was immense.
Guys jab was mother fawkin siiiick! Really faded against Murray
People claiming Martinez's condition was the only reason Murray did well are selling him short. Murray is a talented fighter, solid defence, good fundamentals, good chin and decent power. He's definitely a top fighter at MW and has a chance against anyone.
The huge advantage Martinez has in a Golovkin fight is that Golovkin will always fight like Golovkin. I don't see him pulling a Barker/Macklin/Chavez/Murray and end up fighting more defensive than usual and forcing Martinez to lead. Martinez will finally get to fight the way he likes to fight, which with a lot of lateral movement and countering. Last time Martinez really got to fight in that signature style of his was against Pavlik and I think Golovkin will let Martinez bring that out. Golovkin would be the favorite and there would be higher expectations on him to put on a show. Martinez will just get to do his thing without any pressure. He's going to need his legs against Golovking like no other so how he heals is going to make a big difference.
Right now GGG beats SERG, Serg is just too old and been in too many wars..
Prime vs prime i would go with Serg
Speed and movement usually trump all in the sport of boxing,,,,,
Thats why roy jones and floyd dominated...
Standards and the overall talent level in this sport must have dropped a great deal if someone like Martinez was ever considered great.
Because so many fighters have been doing more than him lately
Sergio has been getting caught more and more as of late. He cannot get caught by GGG, or GGG finishes him. Where the others hurt him and failed, GGG will make it look easy.
Even a prime Sergio would have big issues with GGG. Golovkin can cut off that space on you very quickly. Golovkin is much much more than a Strong and Powerful puncher. He invades your space and then performs some trickery to land those strong punches.
Sergio has always been a fast pace kinda guy, and he always created distance for himself to give himself a breather when he needed it. He will not have that luxury against GGG
GGG would have a frustrating nite against Sergio if Sergio is in top condition!
sergio would run all nite and if the ring were to be a 22+ square it would add to Sergio's aloofness! HA!
I aknowledge Sergios skills but the guy bores me when he just throws quick combos and runs!!! Yes "runs" not boxes theres a difference and I'm very aware of the differences!
Eventually I'd hope GGG catches up or Sergio stubs his toe so that he has to fight at some point!
I like GGG style over Sergio because your going to see action, when Sergio fought Junior he had Junior finished around the 9th round but never stepped it up to end it! He almost paid the price for playing it safe when he got rocked by a guy who is the biggest hype around!
I like GGG in a late round tko win!!! Ray.
Funny, isn't it? Jewnior, for a very long time, was considered a bum and a fraud, yet he's now considered good enough to be cited as Martinez's standout, peak performance.
All it took was a date with Andy Lee, and a 10-8 round on top of a shutout

Sergio.
At his best, the speed, movement and power was devastating. GGG is very good and powerful, but Sergio was great.
No.
You're understating how much trouble Ouma gave Golovkin. Ouma won 4-5 rounds before the stoppage. Sure, Ouma got beat up badly in the last few rounds and made the rounds Ouma won irrelavent, but that doesn't change that Golovkin was a punching bag for the majority of the fight. Martinez took nowhere near the same punishment against Macklin that Golovkin did against Ouma. Ouma probably landed more clean punches in a couple rounds than Macklin did in the entire fight. Martinez struggled against Macklin, but that was more frustration than any real genuine danger. If I was a boxer, I would rather have a career filled of Macklin-Martinez type of struggles than Ouma-Golovkin type of struggles.
Martinez also dealt out a fraction of the punishment Ouma received, it goes both ways. Ouma got involved in a slugging match with the slugger. Macklin had way more luck boxing the boxer than anyone would have predicted. Ouma didn't hurt GGG at any point, though did land tons of featherdusters. Don't get me wrong, that's the first GGG fight I ever streamed, and I was underwhelmed to say the least. I didn't see these skills I'd heard about, just a face first slugger. If that guy shows up vs Sergio, all bets are off.
GGG was a punching bag?! God....
I just rewatched the fight yesterday. He was in the sense that was easy to hit and was tagged a lot. Although, it might not have been the right word because I just remember punching bag might imply that Golovkin didn't punch back.
Didn't GGG have visa issues before the Ouma fight and only manage to get a flight the day of the weigh in? he wasn't at his best, either way he came through with the win and has gotten better since then. Anyway whatever about the fantasy fights GGG hammers Martinez now

Ouma is nothing like Martinez, he's an iron chinned swarmer with little power. Tht was year back anyway, he gave him less trouble than Macklin gave Sergio, at a very steep cost

This, I voted destroys only because it was the only option where Martinez wins. A 100% fit focused Sergio of 2010 would beat GGG by close competitive but clear UD IMO. Ouma gave Golovkin a good fight (I know he was KO'd) Sergio's athleticism angles and movement would win it I think...
Unfortunately Maravilla vs Golovkin now would most likely be a brutal knockout... It's a shame I hate seeing my favourite fighters go out like that, like Ali-Holmes or Duran-Joppy
