Do you think at 135-147 he would of beat guys like Deigo Corrales, Ricky Hatton, Shane Mosley, Victor Ortiz, Guerrero, Judah, Gatti, Cotto.
Just asking as both are normally referred to as the greatest defensive fighters of all time.
All things being equal Sweat Pea beats them all, but there is a reason for all his skills Pea was falling off in year 13 of his career~ so anything after year 13 he is liable of losing.
Hurtado is a pretty good fighter but Pea had to pull that one out of the fire and there are guys better than Hurtado on Floyd's later resume.
yeah, cherrypicker potshotted Ghost... he barely threw any combinations.
And STILL landed 60% of his power shots. Its really nothing you can say. 60% is 60%. And thats a whole lot.
The problem with theoretical matchups is that they aren't and never will be real. We can certainly imagine what Pernell might look like given his mastery in the ring but that isn't enough to say he'd beat them all imho.
even though, pernell sweet pea whitaker, was the #1 p4p fighter for years, pernell sweet pea whitaker, wasn't the cash cow, that floyd money mayweather came to be...that being said, not only would pernell sweet pea whitaker, wax and polish, everybody on floyd money mayweather jr's, resume, he would have fought cotto and shane, closer to their primes, and he would have fought and beat, everybody that floyd didn't fight (manny pac, p. willlams, margarito, etc)...imo because sweet pea whitaker wasn't the cash cow, and didn't have the luxury of picking opponents...
This is a great post,, with great breakdown of business side of boxing in terms of whitaker's career..... Green K
True, you make a good point about the oscar/floyd situation, but to be fair when floyd started calling out oscar he was not an established ppv draw yet...
It was till gatti/judah/baldomir ppv fights that oscar took floyd as a serious opponent that could bring big $$$$$$
Yeah Prime oscar didnt fight floyd, but he was busy fighting hopkins, vargas, mosely so i really cant blame oscar or floyd...
But as far as tito is concerned.... There is no way floyd would tangle with a prime welter tito in the late 90's.... Floyd is a whole lot more skilled but the size and youth of tito would be too much, just like it was for sweet pea who fought nearly the entire fight with a broken jaw...
by the time floyd got to ww tito was long gone. If tito was a ww when floyd got there he'd would have no problem fighting him. I mean no offense but ODH made tito look silly for 7 rounds before he ran like a *****.can you imagine tito catching a quicker, more athletic, more fluid fighter?
true about floyd being a non ppv entity but Bhop and shane weren't big ppv guys either. Vargas was a kid. Mosley also didn't want any of floyd-why risk the ODH paydays?
A loss to bhop (bigger guy) wouldn't have been as bad as a loss to a smaller floyd.
Whitaker is smaller than Floyd and Whitaker probably had less pop in his punches than Floyd. Having said that, it's clear that Whitaker is the better defensive fighter because he wouldn't just potshot like Floyd, but actually let loose combinations.
I wouldn't call Floyd the greatest defensive fighter of ALL TIME. For this era maybe, but not ALL TIME.
Floyd's skill is assessing risk, and minimizing risk. Floyd is one of the greatest risk averse boxers of all time. Floyd has learned Bruce Lee's "art of fighting without fighting". Floyd's boxing I.Q. is on the level of Sun Tzu's in warfare, but Floyd can't do what Whitaker did, be defensive and fire combinations. Floyd can only be defensive and potshot.
You are correct, sir.
Fighting one after another on the same timeline, he picks up losses.
But individually the only real problems would come from DLH and Cotto.
Whitaker did not take the same strict care of his body that Mayweather did (cocaine is the big issue)

Pernell would do fine against Floyds opponents.
I consider Sweet Pea to be a much better fighter than Floyd........... Rockin':boxing:
Better than floyd, obviously. If this isn't a bait thread I don't know what is, don't you guys get tired of reading ignorant comments like "floyd GOAT" etc from people who have no knowledge of boxing?
he begged a prime ODH to fight for over 2 years. why did ODH wait until he was old?
Could it be because floyd was younger and fresher and still as fast and as good defensively as sweet pea-who almost beat ODH prime ODH when he was well past prime?

Whittaker would beat everyone that floyd has fought with ease...
Sweet pea was a goon....
The only people that think floyd is better than sweet pea are the guys that have been watching for like 5 years or less, and only know floyd as a ppv attraction...
Whittaker would beat everyone floyd has faced and be undefeated......
Floyd would never fight a prime oscar and tito like sweet pea did....

Floyd is the best fighter ever period, he makes sweet pea look like a damm a drunken retard.
No one even comes even close to floyd`s greatness, he is God and other boxers are just humans.
He is soo elusiv and fast that I think he would go all 12 rounds with any fighter ever regardless of weightclass, yes Prim Ali, prime Tyson, floyd is just to damm good to not survive.
Floyd is the singel most underrated fighter in history:owned:
You must be FAIRLY NEW TO THE SPORT OF BOXING. Pernell Whitaker is the single most under-rated fighter in history. He was robbed versus Chavez and Oscar. I think even past his prime Whitaker put TITO on his anus. So elusive that he was somewhat trapped in he corner and Tito couldnt lay a glove on him. Although he got his jaw broken he was still competitive. This is a top five fighter of all time. Top two or three to be truthful. He did everything floyd did without all the talking. He was so good that winning every round became boring to the public and they criticized his style. He completely dominated boxing while being the P4P king. :wtf:

Wrong, Floyd landed 60% of his power shots against Ghost, and I been watching it lately. He was looking to land solid rights at ALL times of the fight.
well he already beat the best name on Floyds resume, Oscar dela hoya, when he was clearly past it. He would go past everyone on that list with relative ease.
Whitaker is smaller than Floyd and Whitaker probably had less pop in his punches than Floyd. Having said that, it's clear that Whitaker is the better defensive fighter because he wouldn't just potshot like Floyd, but actually let loose combinations.

wrong. Pea is not smaller than Floyd at all. He's just shorter. People really just love to hate. Pea is bigger than Floyd. He also is Southpaw which makes everything easier to do. Everyone pretty much struggles with Southpaws.
The truth is both guys would do well with the other's resume because they both are 2 of the best to ever do it
