Cotto's plan is to fight the winner of Ishe Smith and Molina Sept. 28 at Barclay Center. If that doesn't get made then he is taking on K9. This is according to Espn boxing.
Yeah I agree with the guy that said cotto should take on Lara or roasado. The only reason I'd like to see cotto vs Molina would be because Molina would get a career high payday
If Cotto wouldn't had abandoned his body attack the he wouldn't have such a hard time with Molina or Lara. He wants to box and counter punch being the naturally smaller man. More than likely he will get out muscled
lara's a dumb fight for cotto at this point.
he should fight k9 then the molina/smith winner i think he can beat all 3 .
of course molina being the toughest but molina doesn't have power, so cotto has to really land some meaningful eye catching shots to beat molina's smothering style..
It will be kind of sad to see Cotto lose to Molina.
That wouldn't happen though, Molina style won't work against a physical fighter who can fight inside. It can work against Lara, a slow Kirkland, not Miguel. If Cotto is well conditioned he wins.
Lara is all wrong for Cotto at this point, he's just too small and can't outmuscle these 154 guys to get in the inside and do damage. This would look similar to the Trout fight, except Lara is sharper and I think a bigger puncher.
As it relates to K9, I rather pay to watch Cotto shadowbox with himself than watch him fight K9
I think Cotto has a better chance to beat Lara, but there's also a higher chance of getting stopped.

I don't think Cotto would be in much trouble against Lara. Lara is very skilled and could outpoint him, but I don't think Lara has the volume punching to put a beating on Cotto. Also, Lara is not a pressure fighter so I see it more as a chess match than a grueling fight for Cotto. It's like fighting Mayweather. Sure, he outpointed Cotto but he did not give him a physical beating. Trout is rangier and, overall, bigger than Lara.
About Bundrage, well, I would watch but it's not a great opponent when you take into consideration that Cotto only has two or three fights left. If you are fighting only once in the year, facing a guy like Cornelius Bundrage is not much of a "pump you up" type of fight for the fans. That's why I would prefer any of the other three instead.
I thought Lara was one of the possible opponents also. I read an interview yesterday in which he said they were trying to get Cotto. Still, I would prefer to see Cotto against either Molina, Smith, or Lara before Bundrage.

I hope Molina wins and beats Smith. Just so when Cotto beats him, he beat a tough fighter and is right back in the picture. Beating K9 would be good for confidence, but nothing more.

even though I'm a fan of his I'm inclined to agree...
cotto gets frustrated by molina's ugly style...especially with the lay off
Good idea. This would make the most sense.
It's also possible that Cotto is trying to keep a Canelo fight open, and getting the IBF belt gives him some negotiating power. If he beats Smith/Molina in September, he could fight Canelo next May.
That's a 2-month turnaround for the winner. Cotto should just fight K9 and then the winner fights Smith/Molina in December.

Both those fights are tough for Miguel right now. K9 is the easiest option stylistically, IMO.
I just hope he shows more urgency than he did against Trout
Cotto should be rooting for Ishe then. Maybe Molina will get another BS DQ. That's a little over 2 months in between those dates. Whoever wins (Molina) better not get any cuts or other injuries.
