MATT MACKLIN insists that after a nomadic career he will bring home Birmingham’s first world title next weekend.
Middleweight Macklin, 31, fights Kazakhstan’s Gennady Golovkin for his WBA middleweight belt in Connecticut, USA, on Saturday, hoping to make it third time lucky in world title fights.
Unbeaten Golovkin, 31, has stopped 23 of his 26 victims but Macklin insists he has learned from his 11th-round defeat to Argentina’s world No.1 Sergio Martinez last year and a controversial points loss to German Felix Sturm in 2011.

I hope Mack's got someone on his team keeping him away from the internet.
Poor lad could get seriously depressed, no-one gives him a snowballs chance, 'spect he won't wanna be going near a bookies either.
like Macklin, wouldn't mind seeing him win
won't happen though, he won't survive Golovkin's power
these guys are gonna go at it, and Macklin's the lesser hitter
not backing down is gonna get him KO'd here, likely inside 8
he couldn't last with Martinez, who's hardly the puncher he's hyped as
yes, Mack was robbed vs Sturm as Sturm was vs dlh, but GG is a different case & the no quit Mack's got his hands full...he may not see #12...
Buddy pulling him out is the most likely outcome.
Macklin is pretty good. But I hope that the title of this thread isn't the name of his strategy because it's not a good one.
This is a legit fight but GGG should take it and get the KO at some point.
It may a rough and tumble affair for a bit but that Irishman is getting KOed. Macklin is a tough kid but his face is going to get busted up. Macklin says well hes a true strong middleweight so GGG is going to be surprised. Well Sergio is really a 154 lber and not a real middleweight and he stopped Macklin so. Also GGG hits harder than Sergio and is more technically skilled.
I like Macklin and I think he's gonna give it a real good go, but I also think his power is being overestimated by some people. He certainly wasn't the puncher of the two in the Martinez fight, and to be honest I don't even think he was against Sturm either (who shook him up late in that fight) I'd say he's an average puncher at world level.
He's not crisp enough in his punches to be considered a big hitter. And honestly if he tries to open up against Golovkin he's likely to be put on his ass with counters. It'll be a lot of fun if Macklin trades with 3G, but I seriously doubt he'll be able to take what's coming back.

A hard puncher should take him out though, he got KTFO by Moore.
To be fair, he was dead on his feet when Moore took him out. He went all out to overwhelm Moore and had no strength left in his body by the time Moore finished him. He punched himself out and then some
He is very hittable alright though, and I think he's too inaccurate in his punching when he goes on the offensive himself to ever clearly beat an elite fighter. But he's improved over the years, and while I can't see him beating Golovkin, it's not totally out of the question that he gets the better of some titleholder someday.
I think that's overstating the case. He's clearly limited at the world class level but he's still pretty solid on that stage. He arguably beat Sturm and Julie Lederman had him three points up heading into the 11th with Sergio.
He's not outstanding by any stretch of the imagination but he's not trash either. Golovkin should beat him, and beat him with a bit to spare, but Macklin could well have his moments. I do think if GGG takes him out with ease it'll be a massive statement.

Macklin just isn't a good fighter.

Macklin creamed Alcine who is a world class boxer IMO if Golovkin wins impressively especially in a huge KO then he deserves all the credit in the world.
Alcine WAS world level but not when Mack ko'd him. Macklin will hit back but will more than likely get himself ko'd by exchanging as he is not that big of a hitter at middle. the fight will however give us a much better idea of exactly where Golovkin is right now in terms of top-level.
