The best part of his game is his counter punches. He's definitely a pressure counter puncher. but he is a counter puncher, one of the best around actually, maybe a level below guys like rigo and Floyd, but very good. He just needs some more dimensions to his game.
He does indeed counter punch, not the way Rigo or Floyd do though, that's why I think the definition of counter puncher could be misleading if I were to describe Broner's style to somebody who never watched him fight. Maybe pressure counter puncher gives a better idea.
Anyway, I don't think Broner will ever be effective if he were to fight like Rigo or Floyd, it's not about how good his counter punches are, but how these punches are set up, I see a big difference in style.
And I agree, he needs to add some dimension to his game to be a top fighter. That said, in my opinion Broner will have more problems facing guys with good footwork and lateral movement, than guys going there to trade.
Broner likes to create hype in a similar fashion and uses a philly shell, apart from that , I agree, he doesn't resemble Mayweather, especially not a 23 y.o. Mayweather.
His style is completely different, Floyd does not walk straight to his opponent, head leaning back, like Broner does.
Floyd usually leans forward, luring his opponent into ant attack, so that he can counter. He generally uses his shoulder roll when fighting in the pocket.
Broner instead seems to use his philly shell to negate the jab and get into trading distance. He doesn't look too comfortable when moving and boxing. Malignacci used lateral movement with some success, getting Broner squared up, a position in which a shoulder roll defense is quite uneffective.
I wouldn't even describe Broner as a counter puncher to be honest, to me he looks more of a boxer puncher with a brawler attitude.

A good power puncher will mess Broner up.
That god awful footwork and mobility ain't gonna cut it. You can't just stand right there with zero movement and a dreadful philly shell base.
Clottey is pretty underrated, I think you're only basing your opinion on him from the Pacquiao fight (which he was obviously paid off by Arum).
He made Zab quit, was whooping Margarito until he was injured, and he busted up Cotto in a fight many felt he won. Not bad for a guy who does nothing in his turtle shell.
I've seen plenty of clottey trust me. he's not a bad fighter by any means, but he definitely didn't like walking fighters down as much as broner does. He was much more of a wait, counter, wait, guy. Broner fights more like winky than clottey. Problem is Paulie fought a lot like Sam Solomon tonight, if u get the comparison. Clottey is a different animal entirely IMO.
I don't see the comparison. Clottey didn't end walk fighters down. He just stood in the same spot with his high guard doing nothing.

Ever see his fight with Judah?
I'm just glad that the Floyd comparisons are nearing an end. For better or for worse, AB is his own fighter.
"Reminds me more of James Toney than Floyd...."
This is another asinine comment I read quite often. Have these people ever seen a prime James Toney fight?
People forget how much of a beast Clottey was
Clottey destroys Broner
Yeah I was gonna say, Clottey would beat AB. Time for Adrien to move back down to LW.
No. He actually punches out of his shell. I'm a broner fan but I would like to see him use more movement. Can't walk down every opponent. Anyone can get caught with a good punch and get knocked out
