Kovalev hasn't been tested!

I've never seen anybody receive the hype of Kovalev this side of Jeff Lacy despite not having been in a proper test thus far in his career. Some of his KO's are impressive, but considering the calibre of his opponents, you can't look into this too much. His jab is good, but I'm not convinced with his defence. He's there to be hit. I believe Hopkins would UD him, as would Cleverly. Don't get me wrong, he's a good fighter, and could be a great one, but last week nobody knew who he was, and now he's a future ATG:/ I'm sorry but until he proves something, I'm going to take a step back and watch his career unfold without making any predictions. I suggest other posters scale back their praise too. If Hopkins beats Kovalev in a borefest his stock will take a huge hit and some people will look very stupid indeed.

The suggestion that I'm a boxrec theorist is ridiculous. I've been on this site for 6 years, been watching boxing religiously for 13. I know who Kovalev is, I know who Campillo is, I've watched them both several times. Kovalev is good, but let's see him prove it against a young bull, instead of shot worn or green opponents. You brought up Campillo's 5 losses, and claimed Murat and Bellew were better. So it was fair to assume you went by boxrec only

All I get from this is that Cleverly fans are shook. Kovalev fought bums lol & there is Nathan fighting murderers row; Tommy Karpency, Shawn Hawk, Mohammedi Its funny how they big up Karo Murat, they must not of seen Campillo get not one but two bullsh1t decisions against Murat in his hometown. I'm not even a fan of Cleverly. I think he sucks, but Kovalev has to fight him next. Two young fighters in their primes getting it on. The winner gets Hopkins. I just don't want a Kovalev - Clev showdown sacrificed for a Hopkins UD borefest. Screw that fight. Kovalev - Cleverly needs to happen. It's a 50/50 fight.

Campillo was considered the "unofficial" champ Why watch fights when you can just look it up on boxrec? So much faster and it makes you look more knowledgeable

He's 26 years old. The fights haven't happened for him through no real fault of his own. Jurgen Braehmer backed out at the last minute so he had to fight for the vacant title. Hopkins (x2), Shumenov and Froch (x2) all rejected fight offers from him. Kovalev could potentially walk away from this fight. LHW is not a deep division. AFAIK he's not even that much of a local attraction. He young doe.

Campillo beat Murat, shumenov and cloud and should have been the WBA and IBF champ when he fought kovalev. You might not rate him but he was clearly the top LHW behind Hopkins and Dawson. This x1000. He hasn't fought anybody but he's not getting anywhere near the same hype as Kovalev who has done fuk all either. In fact, Cleverly get's the exact opposite of hype. He didn't quit at all, the paid off British ref went to his corner and waved it off for no particular reason! In fact I am pretty sure I recall Murat having one of his best rounds just before. My point is Murat is an average Euro level boxer. And Cleverly may not get the hype on here but in the U.K he most certainly does and is overrated as hell.

That's cause he's been one of the worst champs in boxing for a good while, in terms of comp fought. I don't think he's a bad fighter, he has a chance against Kovalev or most LHW, but that answers your question.

The same 50 yo that Cleverly's been using after every fight for the past 3 years "Hopkins is next, Hopkins is next, blah blah blah" Cleverly actually thinks that beating Hopkins at this stage means he'll become an ATG, Kovalev at least has the excuse that he's getting a title shot. You can see his skills in the ring. Uses distance well and throws great combos and has good footwork. His high work rate while using his range is a tough style match-up for the old legend. Its what gave him issues with Cal and Dawson. Cloud smothered himself and fought in ineffective spurts. That why I favor Kovalev over Hopkins and his power would give Cleverly hell. Probably lay out Nathan.

I've never rated Campillo. He's a decent fighter, but can't punch, and has lost 5 times. Hardly a test for somebody as highly rated as Kovalev. This isn't to say that Kovalev isn't a good boxer. He has tremendous promise, but he needs to beat somebody relevant before I get on the bandwagon.
