Lets get a list together of some so I can make a poll.
Off the top of my head
Gary Russell Jr. - phukkin lol at the way he is being managed, seriously atrocious
Gamboa - Had so much momentum then he pretty much shot himself in the foot to be with 50
Andre Dirrell - WHY DID HE DROP OUT OF THE SUPER SIX??? I don't really buy the injury excuse, but whatever I could be wrong.
David Haye - Idk if he counts because it seems like he just doesnt feel like fighting anymore
Get some others out there
Chris John is quite an underachiever IMO. I didn't know if it was management or himself that made him stay here but he had skills, exciting too he could've earned a lot more.
Chris John is making good money for staying home.
Bahodir Mamadjanov
He fought Angelo Santana early this year on Showtime and KO'd him. Santana was promoted by..... Don King.. Baha won and immediately after winning, Don King signed him.
.... in his next fight he fought some unknown bum with a record of like 6-17, on some unknown card. And well, I guess thats that...
Such a shame. I think he's very solid and could develop into a nice fighter.
LMAO WHAT!?!? Tyson seemed like he was a cold blooded killer. His in ring persona shaped his outside persona.
Your thinking about the 90s... After his stint in jail. Watch a tyson documentary pre jail and then tell me what you think. I clearly said in my post in the 80s when he was the most popular athlete on the planet by far.
Totally disagree, for a guy with almost no boxing skills at all, Maidana has done very well to get the money and exposure he has
Not really. Maidana is one of the most exciting fighters in the entire sport.
The likes of GBP and TR will protect and cherry-pick for domestic fighters but those exciting fighters who are truly capable of capturing the attention of the sporting world such as Maidana and Matthysse are thrown to the wolves.
In his 4th year, Wilder was matched against people to keep his KO streak going. That's bad management, because when he finally faces someone who isn't easy to KO, he won't be ready.
Beck has lost ALL of his past 9, and been stopped in 8 of them.
Releford has lost 4 of his past 9, and been stopped in only 2.
At this point, Wilder should be going in with durable guys like Kevin Johnson and Dominick Guinn instead of the likes of Greer and old Audley.
Tyson Fury is younger, has fewer pro fights, and has less amateur experience than Wilder. Yet he's been given some good pro experience against tough journeymen like Maddalone, Firtha, Pajkic and Kevin Johnson.
David Price like Wilder has been badly managed. I was saying even before he was stopped by Thompson that Maloney didn't get him enough rounds in 2011 and 2012. And sure enough, when he finally fought someone who isn't easy to KO, he lost.
Releford won just two of 11 fights BEFORE someone started buying him wins against guys with 3-3 and 5-10 records. So he won a few setups, while Beck wasn't given any setups. Doesn't make Releford relevant -- if Wilder had fought him people would be posting just want I did, that he was a guy at the end of his rope that got a few gimmes to make him look viable when he isn't.
Wilder had about a year of international experience, while Fury was fighting for England or Ireland in international competition from 2006-08. Wilder won the Olympic Trials with 21 total fights, the first 10 or so were against novice competition while just starting out.
Wilder is on a slower path, no doubt, but it has been by design. He has beaten journeymen and has a good win over Kelvin Price -- a better win than anything on David Price's record -- and is gradually stepping up. The plan has been to ake him slowly while also getting him world-class sparring as he learns the game: he's been in camp with Wlad and also had Malik Scott in his camp for a week or two, among others.
I don't think he has been mismanaged -- if the plan was to have him ready to fight for a title by now, yes, but that hasn't been the plan. I know we live in a microwave society where everybody wants their popcorn right now, but a more deliberate path is not necessarily a bad thing.
I Do agree.
I always thought 'maybe he's just not comfortable doing direct camera work', but then you see him doing the on screen work for HBO and he seems extremely comfortable with it so it's strange. A top class American fighter with a great resume...even if people find his personality a bit boring, those other things should allow him to reach some level of' star status in the US.
Hollywood magic would take care of his personality. Look at Blake Griffin. Seems dull as hell but during his commercials he is comedic gold. Ward should be forcing his way onto our television screens.
you guys don't have to listen to NE, but goddamnit you have to listen to ray. Haye owns his own company. He doesn't employ an external company to run his career. Read his interviews from his book or his bookazine where he's talking about starting Hayemaker promotions. It's based on keeping as much as possible in the fighters pockets.
Whilst I know that general management of boxers is often about 25-30%, you have absolutely no base to assume that when talking about a fighter with his own company.
You don't believe Ellerbe is getting a third do you?
Already mentioned, but Denis Boytsov.
Andre Dirrell has got to be up there, too, and pretty much everyone who joined 50 Cent.
Domestically, I think Nathan Cleverly has been poorly treated by Fish Eyes.
Andre Ward.
An undefeated, undisputed world champion, regarded by many as the 2nd best fighter p4p, dominates everyone he fights, and his manager still can't get him paid without having to fight the same people he dominated before, again. Disgraceful management if you ask me.
Thats ridiculous 1st hes p4p 1 because floyd fights bums and is inactive and ward s injuries keeping him out of the ring If gayweather beats saul then he will be #1 again
I know, that last part wasn't aimed directly at you, more at the people who keep saying his style is boring so people don't want to watch.
1) He doesn't do enough in the spotlight outside of fights. Like was suggested earlier, he could do a Subway commercial.
2) They aren't doing enough to make him travel. If he travelled somewhere and fought a home town fighter, the numbers would be bigger, and he would have a better chance to win over new fans.
3) They aren't doing enough to make him take risks. How much bigger box office would he be right now if he'd beaten Dawson at LHW instead of beating the empty shell of a man who turned up at SMW? *For the record, I agree with Dawson coming down, since he was the one calling out Ward, but his management should have hads a word in his ear and informed him how much of a laughing stock he could become if Dawson doesn't look any good*
Any one of those 3 things would have earned him more money, and there's plenty more they could do too, but you only asked for 3 examples.
I get what you are saying but its not as easy as it looks..
1. Subway decides who they are gonna use, Ward just cant come to them and say get me on commercials.. Plus they already use mike lee for some unknown reason... Plus subway would rather use nba, nfl players who are much better known..
2.Traveling wont help him because you are endangered of losing a hometown decision... Thats why you dont see guys like ward, floyd, hopkins, going overseas... Plus ward as already beaten down a bunch of international stars like kessler, bika, froch
3. Take more challenges is hard because he already has beaten any serious threat at his division... He is just left with freak show fights like chavez jr, pavlik, and stevenson just burst onto the scene so its not like ward's people havent landed him big fights....
4. When the thread asks who is the worst managed, Ward def is not the worst managed fighter....Would ward be bigger if he was under top rank or gbp.. Yeah probably but he is def not mismanaged... Dirrell brothers are mismanaged
My number one is definitely Gary Russell Jr. the way he is getting moved along is pathetic I dont understand how he isn't making a big stink about this and trying to get out of it.
