Word on the street is that Andre Ward is not seeing eye to eye with Dan Goossen and trying to leave his promoter.... #boxing
I'll say this, Dan Goossen and I haven't seen eye to eye on many things, but with Ward, I think he's done a helluva job in many ways #boxing
Goossen took Ward, put fights into him, got him home-canvas advantage throughout the Super Six, got him a HBO deal... #boxing
So what is Dan Goossen's crime, not being Benny Hinn? Promoters are not always the bad guys that they are made out to be #boxing
ooo the famouse "word on the street" source :fing02:
Steve Kim is a pretty reputable source with a good track record, he's an established journalist so puts his reputation on the line. He obviously heard this from someone who is a good enough source otherwise he wouldnt have bothered talking about it - but probably cant disclose the source yet for legal reasons.
I'm not buying all this "Goosen did a great job with Ward" hype. Ward was an undefeated Gold medalist (Last American gold medalist I believe to boot) hadnt lost a fight since he was 12 yet when he entered the S6 99% of casual fans and 50% of hardcore cans had no idea who Ward was. Last I checked it was Ward publicly announcing he's cool traveling to Europe to face Froch, not a peep from Goosen.
In addition you guys have to understand that Arum from a budget standpoint is probably throwing sick amounts of money at Ward to make the jump. Manny is on the way out and quite frankly the investment strategy for him is to fight in Asia. Nonito was exposed and they have to rebuild him, Rigo is in a small division and doesn't speak English. Bradley doesn't have the hearts of the American Boxing fan. Mikey Garcia is the goods but he's just now going to get hia first big win vs a name fighter. I can guarantee you that TR would put a huge promotional budget behind Ward's name. They have the resources.
If Ward signs with Top Rank, fights with guys like GGG and Adonis Stevenson or even a rematch against Froch or Kessler or or a fight against Bute would go out the window. Getting a fight with Chavez is not worth the price of signing with Top Rank.
This isn't true. None of GGG, Stevenson, Froch or Chavez Jr are Golden Boy fighters. Arum can deliver those fights.
Dan does not have to be a bad guy,Ward is a professional boxer..He wants to get paid, and you better believe Arum is the man to get him the money he is seeking..Ward going to TR makes crazy sense right now,and is most likely Wards best move..I'd say go for it..
Yeah, something like a 3 fight deal with Arum would work well for Ward.
Pavlik or Stevenson
Chavez Jr.
Froch II
The Froch rematch would probably have to be in Vegas however, can't see Arum letting that one take place in the UK.

I'll be surprised if Ward stays at 168.
The biggest reason ward cant make any good fights is because hes not willing to fight catch-weights with MW or LHW he always wants to be to comfortable in 168 like the dawson fight that was supposed to be at 170-171 instead of 168...
Tim did it, got a PAC fight and it aint really work out. He still isn't a star.
It would of worked out but, The only reason he isnt a star is because he got schooled by manny and he got a gift!
I think Ward is frustrated. He is the best in the division and Froch is getting more attention and bigger fights. Goosen has done a good job with him but his style is not an easy sell. Right now he is in no man's land career wise with no obvious way to go. I am not sure a change of promoter is going to help.
and its his own fault because he refuses to compromise on anything and never moves away from home. he could just have said yup I'll do like kessler (who won his first fight with froch) and go to England so I can get a MASSIVE pay day and woop your ass again. Instead he refuses to fight without home advantage and so gets peanuts, demanding that the fight be made in his backyard so both guys can earn WAAY less, but he'll have that advantage, with refs that will allow him to clinch and spoil all night long.
And thats the other thing when he fights he doesn't give two ****s about conducting a snooze fest, spoiling and clinching all night long. People simply aren't interested in seeing that.
I like Ward, but this is a cherry pick. Golovkin may not represent the money that JCC Jr. does but, when is the last time you saw a P4P fighter calling out a C+ fighter for a payday. Even Canelo had to stalk Mayweather for that fight, not the other way around. If he wants respect, fight Golovkin at 168 and outclass him. It should be easy for a top 2 P4P fighter to beat a guy coming up from 160lb. Think of this as Mayweather fighting Lucas and that being Lucas's first fight at 147. Sure it will be competitive due to punching power, but the superior boxer should win.
Why would Top Rank put one of their biggest cash cows in with a guy who will humiliate him? Even if they have a piece of Ward it's not worth it.
Because all he has to do is not get knocked out so he can win
Ward is in no mans land. He already cleaned out 168. There is nothing huge for him at 175 and he certainly is not going down to 160.
I cannot see how one fight with Chavez Jr is luring him enough to sign with top rank. Who else does top rank have at 168?
I feel bad for Ward. Maybe a large promoter will get him the attention he needs, but it may be impossible. He does not have a wild persona or what would be considered a crowd pleasing style. He is also so good, that many will not watch his fights because no matter who you put him in with, people expect easy work for him and might not tune in.
It is proof that no matter how good you are, you still need that little something extra to wow the crowds.
If Ward signs with Top Rank, fights with guys like GGG and Adonis Stevenson or even a rematch against Froch or Kessler or or a fight against Bute would go out the window. Getting a fight with Chavez is not worth the price of signing with Top Rank.
Ward should learn from Timothy Bradley's experience and Zahir Raheem. Raheem beat Eric Morales and Morales (the loser) ended up in a big money fight in his next fight against Pacquaio, not Raheem. Bradley sat on the shelf for a year after defeating Pacquaio while Pac (the loser) got a big money fight against Marquez. Bradley has no chance of getting a fight against Mayweather, Khan, Matthysee, Garcia, Robert Guerrerro, Maidana or even a rematch against Alexander since he is signed with Top Rank. The most he can hope for is a rematch against Pacquaio, but he will likely end up in a fight against Alvarado or Rios for short money and then another fight against whoever is left among the two or a rematch against Provodnikov.
The same thing is happening to Rigondeaux. After defeating Donaire, Donaire is moving on to another big fight later this year while Rigondeaux is sitting on the shelf waiting for Arum to throw him some crumbs.
I hope Ward develops some sense and realizes that there is a reason why Mayweather and Cotto left Arum.
There isn't much right about this post. TR works with other promoters, just not GBP who only have Hopkins at 168-175, and he said he's not fighting Ward. Chavez just fought an LDB guy (and big favorite), another LDB guy just prior, and hasn't fought a TR fighter in ages. So he's not losing any opportunities, just gaining promoter muscle vs the Brits and Canadians.
Raheem is a terrible example, was he even TR promoted? He lost his very next fight, made it unwatchable, and faded into bolivian. Bradley has nothing to complain about, he got a robbery decision (not surprised you didn't mention, in keeping with the rest) for $5m, and just now passed on $6m from Pac, another career high.
Rigo also can't complain, for his 12th fight he made 750k. p4p 3 division champ Mares purses: 375k for PDL, 325k for Agbeko 2.

Makes sense since Bob Arum and James Prince work together a lot. James Prince was able to get Shane mosley over to Top Rank for a Pac fight.
Also why would Ward stay with a small level promoter like goossen? Top Rank will take him to the next level, its purely a business move and Ward is at the prime of his career he has a good 5 years of top notch prime, Top Rank would promote him much better.
Plus this could be a one fight deal and than Ward not a long term contract, similar to how Mosley did with Bob, and than Mosley went back to Golden boy.

And Goossen did this with a fighter who's not exactly the definition of 'fan-friendly'... #boxing
Is Ward going to Top Rank? Well, I mean, that would be the quickest and easiest way for Arum to pull the trigger on bout with Chavez Jr...
Would it stun me if Goossen got some money to walk away and Ward to go to Top Rank? No, not really.... #boxing
IMO, Top Rank/Arum doesn't do a Ward-Chavez fight unless he has a piece of the winner( which of course is Ward) #boxing
Why would anyone want to see that joke of a fight? Ward would destroy him with 2 hands tied behind his back.
