Is Yuriorkis Gamboa broke?

One of my posts from another thread that might answer your question as to why or how... And he never got that million dollar purse for a fight, but that was standard procedure for most of his purses. Again, you seem well informed, why did Gamboa rep Team Oner at Aydin Karass, if they had this bad and expensive split?

How old is he now? Because he still has his promoters (50 cents) monies to pay off for buying out from Top rank. He really needs to grab the bull by the head and go in and start hijacking pressers etc if not he would not get the big fights that he needs to get his career back on track. You don't mess with Arum unless you have some equal powerful back to hold your side because that man can blacklist you and ruin your career. He's somehow not even blacklisted, his first fight back he carried the Pac JMM 4 undercard. The bigger problem is, his form lately and lack of any money fights in his weight range

Miguel Vazquez wants to fight him, also fighting Ricky Burns in the UK would be a nice payday for him. He has to stay active! He don't make the type of money that allows him to only fight only once or twice a year at the moment.

I said Gamboa was really stupid to walk away from the Rios fight, and look at him now. It's very unfortunate, I was sold on Gamboa at that time.

When Arum gave him Rios fight, he turned him down! What an idiot! Look where Rios is now! He'll be fighting Pacquiao next for millions of Dollars! Rios can retire after the pac fight & live comfortably! Gamboa can retire back in Cuba!

Powers that be will always argue that it's the former, but then they would, wouldn't they. lol Yeah, no kidding. It's a good question, and the answer probably lies somewhere in the middle. We tend to sympathize with the fighters and vilify the promoters and managers, but the businessmen make the cards possible. The system favors the men behind-the-scenes, but a talented fighter can do okay if he's smart with his money. Of course, this sport isn't known for its Rhodes scholars....

The question is whether it's a matter of revenue generation in the sport or revenue distribution? Powers that be will always argue that it's the former, but then they would, wouldn't they.

Crazy how many people don't realise this. There are a lot of guys who are competing at the world class level who still just scrape a living in boxing. It's wild...and sickening. There are probably only a few dozen fighters in the world making (and keeping) serious money.

This is what happens when you have the wrong people handling your career smh. Hopefully if he keeps winning he will get what he deserves for his talents. There are plenty of people seeking to take advantage of a fighter. Ultimately, however, the fighter is responsible for his own welfare. Sadly, a fighter's downfall is usually caused by the fighter himself. Most boxers will have a relatively short career. They are well-advised to save their money from their very first fight. Yet, most young fighters want to go out and buy a fancy car with their first decent paycheck. Things don't get any better from there, and they wind up having nothing to show for their lumps when their career is over.

This subject has come up many times on this forum. Many fans still seem to miss the reality of a boxer's income. A tiny percentage of men in the sport make serious money. $50,000 may sound like a lot of loot to make in one night, but it's not that big a deal when the fighter has all those deductions. And who knows when his next paycheck will be? Very few fighters earn enough to focus exclusively on their careers. Fans need to keep this in mind when they demand that a fighter risk his health beyond reason. Crazy how many people don't realise this.
