At the end of the day the 152lb catchweight benefits Alvarez more than Floyd for the simple fact it will give him (Canelo) an excuse once he loses or looks bad.
FWIW I disagree with Floyd's choice and feel he should just face Canelo at 154, because to me the end result will be the same.
Of course Canelo has something to lose. He is an undefeated fighter with only an early draw marring his record. He may not be as obbsessed about it as Floyd is but he wants to keep his 0. If Canelo loses this fight he will probably never get another fight with Floyd and it will go down in boxing history that Floyd was a better fighter than he was. Floyd wants to go down in history as the best of all time. Canelo wants the same thing. A loss is never a good thing no matter how you spin it.
Your missing the point.
I'm not talking about who has the disadvantage or advantage come fight night.....I'm saying that Canelo doesn't lose a thing regardless of how this fight plays out.
If he wins.....he is the face of boxing. If he loses, regardless of how bad....he has a built in excuse and he doesn't take a hit, marketability wise as GBP will just state he wasn't the same fighter and the weight affected him.
Hypothetically if this were at 154 and he got dominated.....then people would say Canelo is overrated and it would be hard for GBP to market him as the next star in boxing.
that's bull*****...if he loses he would take a hit no matter what. he agreed to a catchweight and they're not making a big deal about it right now and up to the time of the fight so if he loses that's on him. if he uses it as an excuse later he would look like a hypocrite and stupid.
never seen a fighter who agreed to a catchweight and lost but benefited from it after for his marketability.
Listening to Canelo talk about the fight he tells it like hes the one that got over on Floyd by having it on 152. Hes seems to think it wont affect his preparation so I will give him the benefit of the doubt. Ill wait to see how the fight plays out before I start screaming weight drained.
I agree. Canelo is very professional in every way and he is not a BSer. If he says he will be in perfect shape at 152 I believe him. He knows his own body and he weighed 153 for Trout and looked like he carried more body fat than Trout. He will make weight in the right way with the help of a nutritionist. Lots of guys are saying when Mayweather wins instead of if Mayweather wins. If Mayweather thought it would be easy he would not have tried to get Canelo to come in as far below 154 as possible. Floyd has been at least a 4 to 1 betting favorite and sometimes a 7 to 1 betting favorite in all of his fights for many years. He is only a 2.5 to 1 favorite to win this fight. Canelo is a very live dog. I put my money on him.
Well tough shyt floyd robbed himself of credit like he usually does.
I actaually agree. Floyd will get zero credit and like the other poster stated he is in a lose lose situation. Even if he wins, regardless of how he looks, people have an excuse to discredit his win (and rightfully so).
In this fight, Canelo has nothing to lose (marketability wise).
so you can call losing via catchweight and making up excuses as benefits now?:greddy2:

It's a benefit to Floyd but Canelo could turn it around and make it a benefit to himself by coming in the best shape of his life for possibly the biggest fight he will ever be in.
Well tough shyt floyd robbed himself of credit like he usually does.
this is ridiculous. what someone says has no or should have no bearing how you as an individual evaluate what happened.
Once Canelo loses....GBP and team Alvarez will immediately use the "I was drained" or "the weight had a huge effect on my performance" excuse.
I really don't blame them because 1) If they win then Canelo shoots to superstardom 2) If he loses, regardless of how bad, they could just say he wasn't himself and not hurt his stock when it comes to future big fights (Cotto fight etc).
Well tough shyt floyd robbed himself of credit like he usually does.
That is an interesting observation and I would tend to agree. It benefited Floyd's ego at the negotiating table but little else.
I think the question we'd all really like answered, having seen your avi is, How long as Dr Evil been black?
Even in knowing there would be an outcry that didn't stop Mayweather from demanding it simply because he knew it would make a difference. It's there for a reason, I don't see why that should be ignored. Still, if Canelo didn't rehydrate as much as he did Floyd wouldn't have made his demands, of course it doesn't justify it but that's where his demand stems from. It was Mayweather's camp that raised those concerns which prompt Floyd to make the demand.
the catchweight (i.e. having to lose an extra 2 lbs) obviously doesn't benefit canelo, but i still believe he will have the overall advantage at the weight. let's face it, if he was really the same size as floyd, no one would be giving him a snowball's chance in hell.
Floyd was trying to weaken Canelo and he originally wanted the fight at 147. The 152 was a compromise since Canelo would not agree to go any lower and Floyd would not go any higher. I don't think 152 will help Floyd because I think Canelo will make 152 and be in perfect shape. Canelo is very proud of his ability as a boxer and a fighter. The last thing he is looking for is an excuse if he loses. He is dedicated to beating Mayweather and that is what he intends to do. If Canelo loses I believe he will give Mayweather full credit for the win and never even bring up the 152 catchweight. Some fans may say the catchweight hurt Canelo if he loses this fight.
This could have been a legacy fight for FLoyd, but instead Floyd wastes it.
Floyd loses either way, cos if Canelo loses he can say he was weight drained, and if Canelo wins, he can say he was able to beat Floyd even with a CW meaning Floyd must have been overated!
