he was a good fighter but after watching the Gatti fight I never knew he was that good..even for his mountanous standards he was on a personal everest that night in New Jersey..it resembled Ali's domination of Cleveland Williams when Ali knocked him down 4 times in 3 rounds..even if Gatti was past his prime he should have put up more of a fight.
It was such a one sided display that it looked almost like a sparring session..he controlled the tempo of the fight from start to finish and was almost landing at will..it was like watching an artist at work...I believe the floyd of the Gatti fight could have beaten any fighter in history at 140..the only one who MIGHT have beaten him would have been the Manny Pacquaio of 2009.
Was floyd's victory over Gatti his 'magnum opus' (greatest work)?
It was one of the greatest beatdowns i've ever seen but it was only great because gatti wouldnt quit had gatti gave up after round 3 it wouldnt of been as good as it is.
I'm sure Ali would be a little embarrassed about the fact that the Cleveland Williams fight continues to be cited as being his best performance. He knew he was in there with a washed up, stationary punching bag and acknowledged himself that Williams was a shadow of what he used to be by that point.
Nice payday for a guy that probably needed it during that time, but that's about it.
Gatti was handed a gift shot to beat some unknown from Italy to win it after Tszyu was stripped when he was hurt.
And that was a very competitive, close fight that Gatti won, too. The scorecards don't indicate it as being so, but it was a very tough night for Gatti.
The Duva's did a great job with regards to Gatti's career. He probably should have been completely finished after what De La Hoya did, but they preserved his career for another five years, got him title shots shots he didn't necessarily deserve and he become more popular and marketable than ever.
A lot of Floyd fans go on about that because they want him to be this exciting killer fighter, they want his ring performances to match up with all the big talk outside it, but it rarely does. Gatti was an exception because he was shot to sh*t.
No gatti was Floyds last prime fight if you knew anything and stop hating you could do yourself a favor and go back and watch any fight of Floyds and see how offensive he was. Only difference is that fight was on the big stage and idiots actually thought Gatti had a chance until the ass kicking, Hater
It's funny how the favoritism of black boxers happens all the time in boxing. Little do they know Gatti got his ass handed to him by DLH a couple fights before that. Yet Floyd gets more credit for beating Gatti to them. Even after being washed up from them wars.
Man you a damn hater black fighters don't get ****, look at what's going on today Ward destroy Froch and dawson he boring. Devon makes prudy a punching bag he boring, Floyd puts on a master class against a supposedly game Guerrero now it's Floyd fought Guerrero was scared to engage. Manny fights Clottey o man it's a great display of skill even though it was a boring as fight where manny couldn't land yet people make excuses for him, Man pummels dlh o man great fight he so action pack beating a dead man walking. Froch Throws jabs all night against Kesseler, with a few flurries and it was a great fight?. It goes on and on just admit your bias and leave it alone
Same thing, except Jones was probably in better condition having not come through so many wars. Ignore the belt. Gatti was handed a gift shot to beat some unknown from Italy to win it after Tszyu was stripped when he was hurt.
:lol1: Jones had taken his fair share of beating and concussive stoppages by that point I would say.
Gatti's belt was paper but he was still a titlst and still ranked, ranked #1 infact, albeit wrongly.
Not the case with Roy Jones.
Doesn't even matter to be honest because the Gatti win doesn't man anything anyway.
Such an overrated performance. That people hold the Gatti fight as the standard for Mayweather is ridiculous. He's been so dominant against such better fighters.
Not to mention that his fans say he will "Gatti" every fighter since, he never does, but they keep saying it anyway.

Absolutely.
Still not reminiscent of Jones-Green though.

Floyd put on damn good performances against Corley and Bruseles, but I think the Gatti fight stands out in the sense that he came in there to destroy, he genuinely did not like Gatti. Mayweather consistently threw authoritative punches. As for the bold I do find that comment ridiculous as well, 140 Floyd was a different animal, that's Floyd at his physical peak in my opinion.
Gatti was wrecked and had been through multiple wars. HBO gave him a couple of easy fights and put him in with Mayweather to knock over. He was nowhere near a prime Gatti, just a shell of the fighter he was and lost 2 of his next 3 before calling it a day.
Absolutely.

It's not alike to Roy Jones I know that much.
Gatti was a Champion, and ranked.
Roy Jones was neither.

Two massively overmatched opponents facing their stylistic nightmare.
A little i guess
Williams was shot figuratively, and had actually been shot by police literally, a few months prior.
Gatti was coming off a streak and was even being called revitalized by some. He was in much better condition. Which admittedly doesnt mean much.

A little i guess It wasn't anywhere close to the best Arturo Gatti, it is equivalent to a past prime Roy Jones getting KO'd by Danny Green.

Oscar fought Gatti in 02 @154 while Floyd fought him in 04 @140. Nobody praises Floyd for that fight. Floyd gets a lil more credit for beating him in his weightclass the same way people Manny for beating Hatton @ 140.

It was a one sided beat down of an over-matched opponent. A bit like Froch v Mack.
Blacks get favoritism? Where the hell you been.floyds like the only black boxer who doesn't get credit. Ali, Leonard, Robinson and all the other black boxers get their dicks sucked constantly. While people **** on Floyd's performances. Floyd doesn't get credit.
Just ignore the ignoramus. Besides, who wants to argue with someone who has ADHD.
