Good job SMS Promotions. No one knows or cares about this fight.
Hey Gamboa and Dirrell, this is basically what you can look forward to for the rest of your careers fighting under a part time promoter like 50 cent.
Just last year Gamboa while under TopRank was set to face Brandon Rios in one of the biggest fights in boxing, instead a year later, while under the new SMS promotions that was supposed to change the boxing game, he's now fighting Perez in Canada.
We have talked about this so many time and it never gets old, man that move gamboa made proved to be career suicide. Now lets hope all the cuban fighters in the future can use him as a reference of what not to do.
That's the way life is sometimes, papa. You take a shot. Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't. Yuri thought he was shooting for the stars. Turned out to be a bad decision. No one at the time could know for sure what would transpire. Now here it is. I just hope there's still time to salvage something worthwhile from Gamboa's career.
What a terrible move that turned out to be for Gamboa. Sheesh.
Anyway, I can't wait to see what Yuri looks like at lightweight....

I actually think his best win was Salido and the allegations fizzled out as much for him as for the MLB players involved it was discarded for the low cred of the article and the papers allegedly being fake, the MLB try to buy them to analyze them for ton of money and the guys declined obviously afraid of fraud, but the RIos move was probably the worse move of his career that would have been a big W should have gotten that and THEN go ape sh*t on BOB.

Didn't know this, make me a feel a LITTLE better :lol1: And you're right, even though Salido wasn't as highly regarded then as he is now, he was a good win for Yuri. I just think Ponce De Leon is a little bit better.
Not long after that Bosch PED story broke, Gio Gonzalez, the Washington Nationals pitcher, was cleared by Major League Baseball. It didn't entirely discredit the PED scandal, of course, but it did cast some doubt on the allegations. I haven't followed the story intensely since then, but it seems that there were at least some holes in the initial reports.
Shame about Dirrell, wasting his prime years sitting on a promotion shelf, he has himself to blame for that though. If he kept himself busy...he would've beat the likes of Bika, Abraham in a rematch & Stieglitz....he would've been a worthy contender for Andre Ward.
I don't think anyone cares because Dawson is the main card, he's not even relevant anymore after quitting to Ward. But hey an HBO date is still an HBO date.
Gamboa doesn't fight anything like Abril. A stubby-armed midget like Gamboa would be forced to utilize a lot more lateral movement than someone like Abril, because he lacks the height and reach to keep him at bay, and he's not big and defensively solid enough to effectively smother Rios at close range.
Gamboa dodged a bullet and a career-ending beating there.
Gamboa had more than enough foot speed to out manuever the plodding the Rios to a UD. Especially that incredibly drained version that showed up. Alvarado did it, I'm confident Gamboa could too.
It doesn't look that good after Garcia dominated Salido.
He has the footspeed and handspeed to pop in and out and flurry his way to a wide UD. I mean freaking Alvarado outboxed Rios, come on man.
He really went through hell and back to get there though, and he was 159 fight night
Hindsight is 20/20 He got that win just before Salido blew away Juanma twice so it looks great now. Just like a win over Rios would look now although it was a big jump he would have been able to box his ears off if he stayed disciplined and just like the Salido win looks good after the fact imagine how good a W over Rios would look

The whole promo situation is unclear to me. He split from TR, yet his next fight was on a TR PPV undercard, just with one more guy taking a cut. Then they said he really did it to ditch Oner, which would be a good move, maybe even make it all worthwhile. But then you see him repping Team Oner in Aydin's corner vs Karass. WTF was that, someone explain.

I was all on the Gamboa wagon then, and that fight sounded scary as hell. Rios' stock was much higher then, so for a few months Gamboa was it for moving up 2 divisions to fight the guy. But knowing Rios came overweight, yet drained as hell, seems well doable now. You're right he couldn't use Abril's blueprint though.
What got me was, the first callout I saw was from Team Gamboa. Rios seemed more bemused the smaller guy was calling him out, like, he made sure to let you know it wasn't him calling for it. But once the fight started getting real, Gamboa seemed to have second thoughts. I don't really blame him, but it may have took him too far. Then I've read that it was somehow pushed on him by TR, which is an interesting angle. Still they should have thought it through from the beginning

SMS Promotions should give you a small percentage since you've done more in this thread to promote the fight than they have :lol1: :fing02:

Instead stuck in promotion limbo and inactivity like i said some of the dumbest decisions I've seen anyone make outside of a boxing ring going to be hard to turn this ship around:sad2: .
He would've boxed Rios silly, look how Rios looked against Abril in that fight, Gamboa would've won and been on to bigger and better things. Now, I really don't know what SMS is gonna do with him.

Horrible move by Yuri. Should've just fought Rios. This and the steroids allegations, I'm starting to lose hope in him. Dude is already 30 and his best win over Ponce De Leon.

50 Cent always was, still is and always will be a complete and utter joke in everything he does, did you really expect him to be anything more than a joke of a boxing promoter?
Once the partnership fell through with Floyd (if there ever was one) I knew 50 would have trouble. Floyd added credibility to the company. He is the name that fighters respect and aspire to be like (as far as monetary accomplishments). No Floyd and 50 is just another guy selling dreams with no reputation in the business.
Well, the guy is worth a couple of hundred million bucks. That's nothing to laugh about.
All that does is reinforce a statement I have been making for many years; people are fucking stupid. This is backed up by Gamboa being stupid enough to sign with him.
