Age has nothing to do with it, in both cases you have a champion defending his title at a catchweight 2 lbs under the full limit.

both fighter fought against the catchweight meaning they both were uncomfortable at that weight only going through with it because of the Money/prestige

yea it's nothing like it...canelo is still a growing boy who can barley make 154...cotto was a stalwart at 147 for years and even weighed in at 146 for his fight right before the pac fight..
