Biggest obstacle in Mayweather vs Canelo negotiations...
I think it's simply pride. Mayweather is P4P #1, future HOFer, been in this business for 16-17 years, great ameteur career, multi division champion, he IS the money maker in Boxing and all of sports, undefeated, etc...etc...
Now while he hasn't endeared himself to the public to adore him (his style, attitude, villain "money" show, etc), he somewhat feels entitled to the adoration and respect of a great veteran fighter coming near the end of his career...
So with all of those accolades, why is it that Mayweather has to be in the position to "prove" himself or "challenge" the younger, inexperienced, protected (before Trout), title holder in Canelo Alvarez? I don't think Mayweather likes it that people are saying HE needs to challenge himself vs Canelo. Take the "Canelo challenge", prove himself vs a legitimate threat in Canelo. Alvarez is being presented to Mayweather like "the man", "the ultimate challenge", "the king of boxing" that he needs to beat to establish his career legacy (like the past 17 years doesn't matter) when he already knows that just beating Canelo won't endear himself anymore to his detractors and the public will move onto the next opponent to say Floyd "needs" or is "ducking".
Fighting DLH and Cotto at 154, he was already fighting two future HOFers. He agreed to just about everything DLH wanted because he knew he had to sacrifice to get in the position he is in now. I think he also had respect for Cotto and felt he could beat him at 154. However Canelo isn't on DLH or Cotto's level at this point in his career. Catering to him doesn't seem so appealing. It doesn't present him with the benefits of winning that DLH and Cotto provided due to them already being established, proven and respected by the general public.
I think the Money Team's demand of Canelo moving down to 147 is simply their way of saying "wait a minute, I am P4P #1, I am the future HOFer here, I am the money maker, the top dog in this business and I am not challenging you...you are challenging me"
I want the fight and am not saying Floyd shouldn't concede to anything. I just believe this whole passenger seat treatment isn't setting well with TMT. I think that ultimately the fight will happen at 154, but not without Floyd finding a way to turn it into Canelo challenging him. That could very well mean an interim fight at 154 vs someone else first.
