Do people realize how good Matthew Macklin is?

Macklin is 100% getting knocked out, I cant see it going past 6 rounds.

Because everybody hypes him like crazy even though he has only beaten nobodys so far. His resume is garbage. Offcourse he is gonna like great against b-level opposisition. His resume is not the best, but his pedigree is very real. This is why he has trouble getting a resume in the first place. He is also a very entertaining fighter, so the hype is sure to follow. My perception is this. Until the other big dogs are willing to step into the square circle with him and beat him, he deserves the hype. Macklin stood up. Macklin has fought the top level guy before, and did pretty well against him. Props to Macklin. I am not going to call Golovkin a hype job if no other belt holder is willing to fight him. Until someone proves otherwise by beating him easily, he is no hypejob. He is very real and avoided for a reason.

Doesn't the fact that a top 10 MW who people are expexting to get dusted just speak on the talent/potential GGG possesses though? I'm not sure what is going on here but everyone was begging nothing but 2 months ago for GGG to fight someone the caliber of Macklin. So the only way a victory for GGG would speak volumes about his talent is if he fights Martinez, Ward or Canelo, correct? NSB logic: where top 10 fighters don't count :thinking: Before this fight was made people like you said calm the hype down til he steps up, he's stepping A, B) you yourself said in another thread that the fight hasn't even happened yet so stop acting like he won already....... Yet now a month later as the fight gets closer, you're already trying to discredit this potential victory by saying its "expected?" Strong agenda. :rofl: It's a step up, not the ice breaker.

I rate Macklin, i think hes a good fighter. And think that he may look good in this one early doors, but i can't see past a GGG stoppage once he figures Macklin out.

But if it took Martinez 10 rounds to KO this guy who's there to be KOd and Sturm went life and death with him (mind you this was all in the past year) hypothetically, how could a lets say... 3rd round KO not be impressive? Similar to the ishida thing. KOing ishida on paper doesn't exactly make a guy "elite" but when you consider the fact that Ishida fought in the past 2 years prior to GGG, Kirkland, Williams and Pirog and NONE of them were able to drop him period, yet GGG KOd him inside 4..... That made it somewhat impressive. Is this not a similar situation? It's not the fact he's simply winning or KOing a guy, he's doing something that Other TOP fighters were not able to do, or in quicker or more impressive fashion. I don't see how you can't use that as somewhat of a small measuring stick to say he's elite. To you those odds may speak volume about Macklin. But to me it just speak volumes on GGG.... Macklin is a legit top 10 MW IMO. Yeah it will be impressive. I didn't deny it will be impressive. It will be a good win, his best win by far. It just won't confirm he's elite. If he fights and beats Martinez in impressive fashion then it will. I've always said that Golovkin has a lot of potential.

IMO triple G will KO Macklin but he is still a solid fighter. I like Murray better to trouble any MW

Was Andre Ward knocked out cold on his face like Macklin was? What I'm getting at is, knocking out Macklin is not overly impressive. He won't be the first and he most likely won't be the last. Macklin's a decent fighter, when Golvokin knocks him out he will get credit from me and deserve credit. It just isn't a win that will "prove he's elite" because Macklin is good but simply not that good. Like D-Mize said, the odds of this being under 8 rounds is 1/2. That speaks volumes. No he won't... No, I don't think it's true. Macklin's a good fighter and it's a good fight for Golovkin and I'm glad he's taking it. Macklin's a top 10 MW and a good fighter. Then, if he manages to get hold of Martinez or someone of that calibur and destory's them, then he will have confirmed the hype. Knocking out Macklin for the 3rd time of his career? Not so much.

What are you trying to argue here? All OP said was that if GGG KOs Macklin it would confirm his elite status. That's not true? The only other thing he said was Macklin is a legit top 5 MW, and id say top 10. Andre ward went down against Darnell Boone, yet he's the #1 SMW in the world so what's your point? It's funny people are already trying to discredit Macklin, those SAME people are the ones who were pleading for GGG to step up and fight someone like Macklin just a couple of months ago... I don't know what your definition of "elite" is but Matthew Macklin is certainly a top 10 middleweight.. This is a guy who gave Martinez a hell of a fight, and gave Sturm a hell of a fight, Sturm and Martinez are top 10 MWs as well, so how could an early destruction and even more impressive/decisive victory against Macklin then Sturm/Martinez NOT be saying something about GGG? The truth is any kind of early round KO (which some people are predicting) would be VERY impressive.
