I wanted to know what was sugar ray robinson weak at, such as he had
Great Stamina
Good Defense
Great punching power
Great Speed
Great Technique
Ability to take a punch
Though he had no weakness if you wanted to make it a outboxing match he would simply outbox you
If you wanted a inside match he would bang all night
Was he the most perfect boxer to ever step into the ring and what were his weaknesses.
Sometimes got carried away with his power and speed and would leave himself open in attack and as a result would get caught or suffer a flash KD. See the Graziano fight as it happens there.
Pep? master boxer no power! Pete could never stand in front of Sugar, Pete had good pop and surprising snap to his shots but you don't understand that Sugar had real middleweight power in both hands! He could be backing out and throw shots backing up that could knock people out!!!
Pete had very good technique as Robinson did but Robinson could put aside those skills just to get rid of someone he thought he could get out of there!
He took chances that had a real good shot at being the reality, thats how great he was!!! Pete couldn't do that he wasn't that diverse his power stemed from excellant techniques! The power guy always had that magic and Robinson had both power from technique and raw power!
Most modern day fans don't realize that Sugar was a very mean and very determined man in the ring, he had a very ugly streak to him that you don't see from any of the fellows today. Its just another reason why he's different!
Ray
His defense was "Excellant" and put it on the backburner when he wanted to fight!! If he felt he could dominate and win by coming forward he did!! He could make the fight or box! As for Turpin, he was a very good boxer who won in 15 in England when Sugar was 31 in 51 and he still was on top even though he had alot of fights under his belt. A few months later in the states he rematched Turpin and stopped him 10!!!!
Robinson fought in an era that was "fan friendly" the great fighters of the day and the fellows who were IN great fights made the purse and if they didn't fight their azzes off the people wouldn't come!!!! If they wanted that PC of the gate they had to draw and to draw you had to "make the fight" not walk around on the outskirt of the ring and counter or pick your opponents because your the promoter and matchmaker! In the days of Robinson and Bassillo and Jake you needed to 'bring it" or the people wouldn't spend their money to watch a Bernard Hopkins or Mayweather fight. They simply don't compasre to someone with more skills a higher level of talent and are looking to be agressive!!! The Greatest Fighter to date is the Sugarman and theres no one close!!!
Who's better? Ray.
It sounds like you have your mind made up all ready that he was perfect and just want everyone to agree with you. His defense was not that great in my opinion. Jake La Motta was a short guy and he had no problem landing lots of jabs and hooks on Robinson when Roninson was in his prime. Randy Turpin hit him often enough to beat a prime Robinson and Basillio and Gavalin landed lots of punches on him to name a few guys that had no trouble landing punches on him. Great fighter, yes. Perfect fighter, no, but like I said you have your mind made up.
He's great but not flawless.
He's been out fought by Carmen bassilo he was past his best but still elite
He's been out boxed and he was In his prime or close to it I believe
