I don't post here much if at all, but Ive been thinking about this match up for a while now and wondering how this fight would play out. Its a shame Paul Williams wont fight ever again because he was good for boxing and very entertaining. So how would this fight go? Im thinking Pauls size and workrate would be the deciding factor.
So Trout looks bad against Canelo and now he is done eh? Paul Williams got beat by Carlos Quintana out of all people, yet people think Williams destroys Trout who's 10x better than Quintana. I take Trout by UD.
He's bigger and has a much better chin than Quintana and that's about all the advantages he holds over Quintana who was faster and more mobile (also less shy w/the overhand left). Also keep in mind P.Will had a lot of trouble making weight for that fight, he was better prepared for the rematch and where he finished him quick.
A prime Paul Williams at 154 outworks Trout to a UD; Trout doesn't have the power to hurt P. Will, he doesn't have a money shot in his arsenal and would not be able to keep up with P.Will's pace.
I'd actually favor Trout in this matchup. Because he's a relatively big southpaw and if the Punisher had a weakness, it'd be a southpaw. The head to head matchup does not translate into who the better overall fight was/is prime for prime though.

Williams would lose to Trout in a 8-4 rounds type fight. Williams in all honesty was only a decent fighter, a decent fighter ho was shout out by the much smaller Carlos Quitana. Trout wouldn't have much difficulty beating Williams.
I liked Williams but the guy just wasn't very good. His size compensated for his lack of skill, but against Trout who is a big Jr. Middleweight he would be outclassed.
If you are talking about a prime Williams I think he would win a close ud. over Trout. If you are talking about Williams just before his was in the crash I think Trout wins a clear ud. over him. I'll vote for Williams assuming you meant a prime Williams.
PWill all day. Trout is a counterpuncher but he is too conservative, he doesnt like to punch if something is coming back at him at the same time. Williams doesnt stop throwing so that perfect opening wont come, you have to punch with him which trout would be hesitant to do.
What trout has going for himself is that hes a lefty which we all know paul struggles with. But it wont make much difference if he cant pull the trigger on that left hand. I also think the reach would give him all sorts of trouble, trouts key punch is the jab, but with the lenght of Williams and the way he throws multiple jabs at a time that would neutralize trouts stick.
Last but not least trout doesnt have the power to keep Williams honest. I think Williams beats him clearly on points or possibly a late tko if trout is being too dominated and overwhelmed and the corner steps in.
