I consider it a TRAVESTY that british boxing great Naseem 'The Prince' Hamed has not been inducted in the hall of fame yet.
Achievements:
#1 featherweight from 1996-2001.
Lineal world champion at featherweight
Won 3 world titles..made 15 defences
Defeated 8 world champion
Won 36 of his 37 fights
KO % of 82 %..one of the highest ever
In his prime..the prince was THE MOST FAMOUS BOXER IN THE WORLD
He considered retiring undefeated in 1999 because of his continous hand injuries but ADIDAS were offering him a $10 million a year contract
In his april 2001 defeat to barrera..he had a second hand surgery In jan '01..which was kept secret..he had to lose 20 pounds in 3 weeks to make it for the fight..and a close fight 115-113 on all three scorecards.
Naseem hamed should be inducted in the hall of fame..do you agree?
He went life and death (and was dropped) by a 1000 year old Keven Kelly, and lost the only time he fought any real competition in MAB and then quit. Nope. As famous as he was in England (which may skew your judgement on this one), he would have never been recognized on any street in America at any point. He was never even a mild bit of a name over here.
lol yeah..that why puff daddy was ringside for most of his fights..youve started watching boxing from 2005 haven't you?
One thing I never understood when it comes to talking Hamed is why is it such a disgrace to lose a fight to Barrera? Barrera is a Hall of famer himself right?
You always hear "exposed" or "dominated" etc.
The fight was close and competitive. Hamed clearly lost but it wasn't one sided like the legend reads. And this wasn't like his only legit fighter he fought so he didn't step up from fighting tomato cans in UK to a fight with Barrera in the states.
Hamed was fun to watch and a legit champ. Definitely flawed but borderline HOF for sure.
Y'all know the drill if you suck or haven't really accomplished much just make a movie or be killed and you'll get in just ask Stallone and gatti no offense or disrespect but it's true.
resume isn't that good the one time he stepped up he embarrassed couldn't come back after that,if roy jr gets in maybe hamed in the international hof

If??? The man went from middle weight to HW back down to light heavy and won titles in all of them and you say if?

That's why american rappers rapped about him cus he was unknown!
HATED that guy--what a clown--I was SO happy when Barrera spanked him. Hall of fame ??? HAHAHAHAHAH !!!! I dont think so.
Sadly, I think this attitude is what his present omission from the HOF boils down to.
Back then prior to greater internet exposure a foreign fighter had to prove himself twice, once in his home country and then again in the US with his fights in his home country counting for virtually nothing and his fights in the US being the reflection of his career for people there.
This attitude still exists to some degree but thankfully not to the same extent.
Oh well if Larry Merchant said it it must be a fact. I guess guys like barrera morales and pac would be selling there asses for bus fair if it wasn't for Hameed.
It's well known that Hamed was the first of the smaller fighters to get multi million $ per fight.
This is just his FW Career.
FW title holder for 6 years.
Beat every title holder in the division (should have been undisputed).
Lineal Champ for 3 years.
Beat 9 title holders.
16 of his 18 FW were against undefeated fighters.
Before the Barrera fight, Barrera, Morales, JMM, Tapia all turned down what would have been their biggest paydays to fight him.
Hamed is massively underrated by people that don't know their history or are just plain haters for some reason or other.
Hamed was watched by people who didnt even like boxing.
Larry Merchant said that Hamed was the reason smaller fighters could now get much bigger pay days.
So not only was Hamed FW champion for 6 years and beat all other champions, he also changed the pay structure of boxing.
Who didnt he fight during those 6 years? JMM? No one even knew who he was until years later when he fought Pac.
Losing a UD to Barrera shouldnt be a big criticism when you look at other inductees.
I was wondering if Hamed almost killing a man in a car accident and running away from the scene and ending up in prison would have something to do with it?

Because he sucked, He was a fraud like Floyd at 147 and got smoked the first time he fought someone great in their prime then quit forever.
He beat a lot of world champions in convincing fashion, and was only defeated by a truly great fighter yet he's a fraud, or a hype job?
The problem seems to be that a lot of posters here are of the mentality that if you aren't a top ten all time great then you must be a bum. That's a pretty ridiculous benchmark. Do you guys get any enjoyment out of the fights every weekend? Or do you just sit there critiquing the 5hit out of everything because SRR or Harry Greb did it better?
As for this exposed nonsense. Why does Tyson get a pass when his first defeat came against a fighter who pales in comparison to MAB? Surely he was exposed as a hype job too? After all, he KO'd a whole bunch a solid fighters on his way to unifying his division, only to lose when supposedly at the peak of his powers.
Pacquiao? The guy that completely and utterly destroyed him? Sorry, but you don't get points for getting the sh^t kicked out of you. And anybody who thinks that a well faded Tapia was a more credible victory than Hamed was knows nothing about this sport. Manuel Medina - a former Hamed victim - comprehensively slapped Tapia around and won, in the very least, nine rounds.
What you said was...
Hamed's the second most recognizable name on Barrera's resume after Morales...
and now you are speaking of wins on his resume only. Tapia had 66 fights and in the US is is a arguably a more recognizable name than Hamed. Again you spoke of recognizable names on Marco Antonio Barrera's resume and I responded to that statement. You are trying to spin it around.
Naz should definitely be in there. Not only was he a tremendous fighter, he brought real excitement to the sport and had genuine crossover appeal. He also raised the profile of boxing at the lower weight classes in the eyes of the wider public. No question, he is a hall of fame worthy fighter.
Hamed was huge in England. Look at it this way. David Haye, Joe Calzaghe, Hamed, and Nigel Benn walk into a bar anywhere outside of England...nobody recognizes them. Naz had a lot of backing by people who saw a midget knocking out other midgets and wanted to make him into a star. He was ****y and had a punch and a different look than most fighters at the time. He was Jesus in England to you tweens. He wasn't here. I'm glad he retired filthy rich. That has nothing to do with his quality as a fighter, the quality of his resume, or his stardom outside of England. He didn't beat EVEN ONE great fighter in his career, and just because you guys bought into his dog and pony show doesn't change the fact that his resume is garbage. He stepped up, he lost, he quit. And again, his showcase fight in the US was against a 1000 year old Keven Kelly, and he got dropped and hurt. Facts.
Outside of America, the general public wouldnt know who Bobby Chacon and Wilfredo Gomez or Ricardo Lopez are. All HOF'ers.
Fact is Hamed vs Kelly was referred to as the featherweight Hagler - Hearns because of the incredible drama. And remember, Hamed won via KO.
Plus, the FACTS are that Hamed was champ for 6 years, beat all the other champions, and his showmanship and spectacular KO's made a big impact. Face the facts....that makes him HOF material.
Maybe 1 out of 100 people would recognize one of those guys here if they saw them walking down the street (hopefully it would be me). If you showed them a picture with gloves on they'd probably get Naseem moreso than the others, but even that would be sparse. Just look at when Theirry Henry moved to New York Red Bulls. He said it was great because hardly anyone recognized him and he felt like a normal guy. One of the most famous footballers of his generation is nearly anonymous in New York City.
All this bs about people getting recognised in the street. Many great fighters wouldnt get stopped in the street, but not because theyre not great, but because theyre not American.
In the backwards, incest-ridden party of the world you live in? Probably not. If you had even the slightest bit of interest in the sport in the late 90's and early 00's? Hamed was unquestionably one of the most recognizable fighters in the sport during that period. Only a clueless goof (you, in this case) that's not been following this sport very long would attempt to refute that.
Hamed not beating a single great fighter means f^ck all. I can draw up a list of fighters who did beat great fighters but who's overall career didn't amount to anything. Hamed established himself as the beat in his division and generally beat most of the top featherweights during that time. You wouldn't know that, though, because you know nothing about that specific period in the sport.
Now come back at me with another "fact", cunt.Maybe 1 out of 100 people would recognize one of those guys here if they saw them walking down the street (hopefully it would be me).
