OK, so he should be announcing his next opponent in the coming weeks. Below is my view of his options. I'm listing the most probable opponents first.
1. Amir Khan - ESPN's #6 Junior Welterweight. Would be a good draw since he has a name. He just won, but not in impressive fashion so he's vulnerable. Smaller guy who should be easy work for Floyd. Fairly safe pick, he's probably available.
2. Canelo Alvarez - ESPN's #1 Junior Middleweight. Don't care what anyone says, Canelo is a dangerous opponent for Mayweather. Would likely be the biggest of his last 5 fights not counting a rematch between them. The fight can be made but will Floyd take the risk?
3. Devon Alexander - ESPN's #6 Welterweight. Horrible fight from a commercial standpoint. With the shakiness in the PPV buys after Guererro fight, there may be pressure for his next fight to be a bigger name.
4. Erislandy Lara - ESPN's #4 Junior Middleweight. Fantastic boxer but a boring style. This would be a very interesting fight for boxing purists but it would be even worse commercially than Alexander.
Those are really the only options for Floyd around the September time frame in and around his weight class. It will boil down to his willingness to fight the most dangerous, yet biggest commercial option Canelo. Since Floyd's money is guaranteed, and assuming he isn't getting anything (or a smaller % on the back-end), where is his motivation to take tougher opponents?
Lol. I'm sure that's what you want but when the Canelo fight does record breaking numbers the deal will turn out to be a success
no i'm just sad that showtime isn't going to show good movies anymore due to their upcoming bankruptcy.
Also, don't know why people mentioning Top Rank fighters...and Bradley/Marquez already fighting in September. There are not a lot of options for Floyd.
Yea, I left Garcia, Peterson and Matthysse off this list because they are all supposed to fight in September already. The 4 guys on this list are the only viable options I can see. Guys like Keith Thurman aren't on Floyd's level yet. No way guys like Thurman or Maidana get picked over Khan.
except they were banking on the fact that his garbage fights like against guerrero would rake in at least 1.2 million. they thought this because his fights against ortiz and faded cotto did well, but they miscalculated now that pac has lost a lot of fans left. it's over. bankruptcy might be the best option for showtime. this way they can start again and won't have to pay floyd all that money. sorry movie fans.

lara won't be on any list of floyds. there is no "attraction" in that fight for him imo.
IF mayweather moves forward with a fight against alvarez i thnik this might be the last time he fights above welter.
options for sept?
alvarez
garcia - although he is provisionally scheduled to face matthysse if offered floyd will undoubtedly jump for the big $$s
matthysse - ditto as garcia
alexander - probably being lined up for fight with khan late in year but otherwise read as above, "if offered . . . etc".
can't see who else is in the running at this point.

I guess they left because they figure if JMM can knock manny out that he has no chance to beat floyd. Maybe you should go tell all of them that triangle theories don't work.
How 'bout guys like Mike Alvarado, Vanes Martirosyan, Shawn Porter, James Kirkland, Kell Brook, Marco Maidana?
These are big risk ZERO reward fights. They would make no sense to the haters.
Canelo is the only possible megafight left. They knew what they were getting into before hand. A 6 fight deal with one of them being a major event.
Unless Pacquiao makes a miraculous comeback at some point.

They also may have overestimated Floyd's ability to sell a fight without a name opponent
Possible. Or you can let the Canelo fight marinate and maybe pickup another 250,000-300,000 buys down the line that will offset the lower number with a lesser known opponent.
There are plenty of scenarios. You don't have to profit on every single fight. You have to profit over the course of 6 fights. The Canelo fight will be the biggest of the six.
That's like a 10m hit, I doubt Showtime can afford that, much less twice a year. Their budget is 30m. If they had 10m to waste, why didn't they just put it in their budget, they'd have been bigger than HBO already. Remember when HBO's budget was messed up for committing an extra 3m to Bradley and Devon's next date?
showtime's lawyers are furiously trying to find a way out of the contract as we speak. they don't want to destroy their company by giving this failure all that money they promised. hopefully they have some sort of final say on opponent selection because if they get 5 more guerreros' its over for them. hello bankruptcy.

Oh, you Floyd fans and your semantics. The fight is as big as it possibly can get. This doesn't have to turn into another Manny situation. Canelo loses to Lara, then what? Floyd ain't fighting Lara, and he has a reason to never step foot in 154 again.
GTFOH.
That's why I called it a "possible scenario". Not something I want to happen.
Its going to come down to who makes the most buys for Showtime and least risk for Floyd to fulfill his contract. You can forget guys like Lopez being considered.

There's no way he's fighting Alexander on that date, that's gonna be huge losses for Showtime. Floyd needs more PPV momentum to make that fight, like after beating Alvarez.
