^Jesus....That's just a dumb statement.
I'm a big believer in the Matthysse hype but Prime 140 Cotto easily beats Lucas, sorry. I know around here Lucas is the second coming of Duran but as of now, I believe Cotto at 140 is too much class.
Id take cotto as well. Its a combination of hate for cotto, and Lucas hype. Although i do think Lucas is a beast. Cotto was a hard puncher at 140. And, he could outbox lucas, and make him eat jabs all night.
Watch this highlight video and tell me who you think would win between Matthysse and Cotto
Torres is a dynamite puncher, but nowhere near the chin or boxing that Lucas has. What's the point in showing this fight?
Edit: Ooooohhhh, I get it. You're trying to say, "replace Torres with Lucas, and Cotto might've died in the ring that night."
My bad E.P.T.
Current Lucas vs 2004-2005 prime 140 lbs Cotto. Who wins?
Current Lucas Matthysse would hit way to hard for Cotto, Cotto would think he was getting Margarito'd all over again.
:)
Well, Cotto had 21 fights at 140 which were at least 8 rounders, and of those 21 fights, he won ALL OF THEM. So Cotto is undefeated at 140. And in those 21 fights, only 3 guys did NOT get knocked out (Malignaggi, Ndou and John Brown).
And your only comment about Cotto at 140 is "cotto had no chin at 140".
Good stuff, really.
Good point, Cotto @ 140@ prime. Would be a hell of a fight, imo.
I can't pick a winner in this fantasy fight. But i would lean a bit toward Mathesse, because of his power in both hands.
I am glad people feel the same as me, Cotto is just another league of fighter to Matthysse, it's easy to forget that once a fighter comes nearer the end of his career like Cotto. We have seen his climb, his peak, and now a slow decline. With Mattysse we haven't, but from what I've seen so far he does not seem the same calibre of fighter as Cotto. Matthysse looks like a decent to good technical fighter with spectacular power, it would take more than that to beat Cotto even at 140. People talk about the vulnerable moments, but Torres absolutely teed off on Cotto and couldn't get him out of there, Corley hit him on the temple and his legs went, but he still recovered and destroyed Corley soon after. I don't see Matthysse stopping him, and if he went for Cotto as recklessly as he did Peterson he would have been taken out himself, in fact I think that is what would happen. Cotto would break him down with his superior skill, jab, body punching, defense, and timing. I expect him to have bad moments, and be hurt, because Mattysse is a very good fighter, but this about levels and Cotto has another gear.
cotto had no chin at 140
You mean Miguel Cotto who had a 27-0 record with 22 KOs when he finally made the jump to 147? Yeah, you're right, he had no chin...he sucked. :wtf:
I know Devon and Zab are boxers and Cotto is more of a boxer puncher especially at 140 but anyone find Matthysse's hype becoming too much? Some may say he beat both of them - I thought he edged both too but they were really close fight. I'd fancy Cotto to smash both of them up at 140.
This exactly, the hype on him is crazy WTF. Schefer calls him the new Pac and it's true? Peterson doesn't exactly have a granite chin either, Lucas didn't put Zab on the mat I don't think and Cotto won by brutal beatdown, no cards needed and that was at 147. Cotto wins in a tough fight but he's the better boxer, higher boxing IQ and would actually be the quicker of the two both hand and foot speed.

I have seen lots of fights of both Matthysse and Cotto, and I think Cotto is the better boxer. So I go with Cotto in this one.
Some fights don't come down to the better boxer. With these 2, it comes down to who's the better fighter, and who's more durable.
Lucas wins.

Cotto was too drained at 140, even Corley had him on queer street.
most people on this forum are idiots. When Haye beats Chisora impressively, suddenly every said Haye would beat Tyson. If Mayweather beats Guerrero, he is suddenly the GOAT. Pacquiao is the GOAT all the time, then he gets knocked out and he is the biggest bum ever. Matthysse beats Lamont Peterson by KO and suddenly he is the biggest thing the 140 pound division has ever seen. By the way, when Tszyu was in his prime, almost everybody said he is the best 140 pounder of all time (next to Pryor). And when Tszyu lost to Hatton, nobody talked about him anymore.
Cotto wasn't even a good 140lber. Lucas would starch him out realy quickly.
