Yesterday, we told you about how Floyd Mayweather was just named the highest-earning athlete of 2013 by Sports Illustrated. Unfortunately, we can't say the same for Manny Pacquiao.
Although he's enjoyed a long, lucrative boxing career, it sounds like Pacman's bank account is slowly inching closer and closer to zero. Because of all the business investments he has made over the years—and because he doesn't seem to pay close attention to his money like Mayweather does—he could be broke within the next couple of years. It's reportedly one of the reasons he wants to continue boxing and one of the reasons that, in all reality, he needs to continue doing it in order to survive.
"Manny has clearly lost the zeal for boxing that he once had," journalist Ted Lerner says in an ESPN piece published late yesterday. "Before, he used to fight for the love of fighting, and the money seemed secondary. Now he is obviously fighting for only one reason: money."
Is this true? Is Manny really that hard up for cash right now? Read the rest of the ESPN story to see why it does sound like the former champ is headed down the wrong path when it comes to his finances. We just hope he doesn't continue boxing simply because he needs the money. That's no way for a great boxer like him to go out—and it could have a terrible impact on his health at some point down the line.

Damn hope Manny gets it together hate to see him end up like Tyson or Holyfield...
Manny has a home in la. He pays us taxes in addition to the other taxes he pays. But it seems he's really more of a degenerate that spends money on hookers, buying elections, ferraris and gambling.
If you replace hookers with strippers and buying elections with buying bentleys, that sounds just like some fighter I know. Except that guy makes much much more.
Certainly when you "buy" things that depreciate the minute you use them...you are wasting money. But there is a serious red herring at work here if one believes that these guys go broke because of spending....Drugs can be an exception to that for sure....a cocaine habit could drain the Rockefellers!
The vast majority of these guys find it very earth shattering when they find out their tax burdens....Case in point the Filipines pursuing Manny over the tax bill. The legal fees, the late fees, the lack of decency that these bill collectors for the elites have for people virtually guarantees that no matter how loved, how obvious that the athlete was not directly responsible....the IRS up until recently would not give options to pay back fees. They treated Joe Louis like a common hood when like a lot of fighters, management fees, the dishonesty of others, and perhaps a few toys, virtually guaranteed financial downfall.
Most financial institutions are forced to wait to get paid...the IRS still uses what amounts to debtors prison. People should pay their debt, but it should be worked out so they are not financially ruined doing it.
I knew something was up when he claimed to buy a new home in Vegas before the Cotto fight and it turned out to be Konz house instead.
Guy is putting up appearances by claiming to buy a Ferrari on 24/7 when rumors are he is deep in debt to Arum before and after every fight.
Who turns down $40 million to fight Floyd when your usually making half that?
Whether these reports are true are debatable, besides who cares how much money Manny has? Its his money, heh, if he cared about it half as much as his fans he'd be a billionaire. As to your post, I'll tell you who turns down a record guarantee, a man that's never understood his power and appeal. He didn't get it but Bob Arum sure as heck did and he knew he had a mark in Manny.
If these reports are true, then this is the inglorious sight of fading wealth and fame. It's pretty tragic actually but how many fighters have succumb to bad judgement?
How come Floyd the ingreat wasn't saying fuk off to the big bad Bob Arum when Floyd was begging him to save his life from J prince?
damn! did you have to go to night school to grow a thumb?
Athletes like floyd and manny have a loy of write offs to. Way more then the common man or a pizza store owner. Plus Manny don't even pay U.S taxes so there goes your theory. Plus the mayweathers and bhop i know for a fact all own rental properties.
oh damn!!!:dunno: there is goes! cause lordy knows dey ain't no taxes in dem filipenes....no no no!
Write offs huh? With an earned income of millions I bet Floyd doesn't keep his mortgage high (that would be a big write off) which is perhaps the biggest write off. Learn what you are speaking about before you jump over here.....You obviously are lacking knowledge about the scale one deals with regarding such a high income...The proof is the pudding, there is a large preponderance of broke pro athletes who earned a small fortune and it is not because they are:
a) stupid b) greedy c) ripped off by their entourage, etc. :banghead:
Remember he got a 1 million as a signing bonus from top rank...
WHAT AN IDIOT, and he is a politician. lololololololololol
No wonder the place is a third world country... if you cant understand simple finances then you probably shouldnt be running a country.
Im american so i know all about politicians with no financial acumen
:killyou: :owned2: :haha:
Yes, because just being from the US qualifies u as an expert in the financial expertise of our congress members, who ,btw, get paid by our tax dollars to manage state funds and budgets, which btw aren't getting passed, not because congress members are stupid, but because of polar ideologies... Yeah, great job showing u know allllllllllll about the financial acumen of politicians just because ur from the US.
this part of the article reeked of bull*****
Yeah but you gotta understand what's going on here. Lines are being drawn in the sand. This is clearly an article favored for Mayweather. But just a week or so ago, other members of the press tried to say the Floyd fight did under 1 million, with little to zero basis to build that from. There are certain members of the press on both sides, taking sides, in a downplaying and slandering war. This is all top rank vs gbp, and more importantly, Hbo vs Showtime. Big business.
Before the networks were feuding along the same lines as the promotional companies, it was less of a polarized situation. But now? Hbo and its affiliates and Showtime and its affiliates sign a lot of checks. Everybody should keep that in mind before they start reacting to this or that.
u didn't see sh1t if u did u wouldn't of said sh1t because what I said was relevant to the original poster. Just admit u commented because you're a butt hurt Floyd stan and my comment stung your vagina then go to sleep.
Its not your money so dont be so butthurt about it. I know you feel you must defend pac at all costs but come on man.
A boxer going broke????? What a surprise....
It's like these dudes don't think about their future, instead wasting it on grills and stupid s hit like that.
Dunno if this is true or not but I do have to say, the dude has plenty of leechers on him and no matter how nice he would like to be, in the end, he has to think of himself and his future. Boxing is a short lived career unless your B-Hopkins and a lot of these guys who never seen money before don't know how to handle it. I honestly thought Manny was a lot wiser with his money and the investments but who knows, with all the leechers, they could of steered him into many bad decisions.
I dont feel sorry for him.
A fool and his money are easily seperated....
Do you think spending 2 mil on your brothers and wife's campaign is a wise financial move.
I like manny as a fighter and a person, but i dont feel sorry for him in the least. I was poor early in life and worked hard, paid attention in school and college and now run my own company. I don't make 20 million like manny does, but i understand how to grow money not waste it.
Difference is you had the opportunity to grow up and go to school in a first world country, Manny came from the slums of the Philippines with no education and no support structure.
He doesn't even make half of $40 mil. After everyone gets their share he gets around $8.5 mil.
This is a pathetic excuse for journalism. It's basically the same rehashed bullsh*t people in NSB have been saying for years without a shred of evidence to back up their claims.
It comes as no surprise to me that the unfounded accusations put forth in this piece of 'news' is actually being debated seriousaly by you pedestrian retards. Carry on.
The thread should have ended here.
You got tags on yourself kid , your not a real boxing fans a$$hole , you declare a duck when its not a fight you want , did Manny duck any fighters off course not according to you lol dream on hater .
Dude I AM NOT a Pacquio fan! Can u get that through your simple little head?
But you quote crappy journalism every day lol , ah thats right I forgot , its crap if its about Manny and the holy grail if its about Floyd , now I got it .
Oh word? Find one post in history where I ever quoted any journalism idiot? If you do I'll leave your cherry picking boyfriend alone for 6 months. Have fun staying up all night going through my post history to find it. I know you'll do it to because you bare the thought of his name being slandered lol
I hope it is not true but I would not be shocked, the man works for Bob Arum and with Arum if you don't have a back bone he will take full advantage of you as would most Promoters
Arum is no different then Don King, it is easier to ROB a fighter who is not from America and who feels he owes Arum everything for making him a star that he can't speak up for himself
The man needs to LEAVE BOB ARUM like Oscar, Mayweather and Cotto did or else Pacquiao will go broke when he retires because of the fuking LEACHES like Arum and Koncz
Pacquiao don't owe Arum NOTHING!
oh no i saw what you replied to and stand by that it is sad you resorted tothat. Talk about butthurt. Haha!
u didn't see sh1t if u did u wouldn't of said sh1t because what I said was relevant to the original poster. Just admit u commented because you're a butt hurt Floyd stan and my comment stung your vagina then go to sleep.
I remember Don King would charge Tyson thousands just for towels. :lol1:
The problem is Pacquiao is a stand up guy, he will remain loyal to Arum until he retires. For all the things he has done for him.
Not sure but the way you act and things you say have alot to do with personality. I like to watch floyd fight I cant tell how great he is cause the guy has no balls however I think he is the best of this area it sickens me to say. They both are guilty of using each others names and great matchmaking. I dont pick a side ****em both im just a fan that watches whatevers available. I can see both there bull**** one catchweight king one afraid of a challenge
Nah not at all I liked Floyd a lot until he left 135 and started cherry picking all his fights. I couldn't give a sh1t less about his personality. I don't even know that *****
I am a flaming homosexual who likes to post bullsh*t news, without posting a link to the bollocks site I got it from.
Tell us something we don't know you sack of sh*t.
