Is this just Floyd fans pulling a name out of the hat in hope it happens and they can hype the hell out of the victory?
Now I understand there isn't really anybody on Floyds level so no matter who he fights it'll be perceived as a cherrypick or whatever but Canelo?
What is Canelo going to do? How is he going to be competitive when hes going to stand there getting walloped senseless with lead right hands?
The only thing that makes this fight sort of intriguing is the weight/size.
If he (Floyd) is going to fight at 154 I'd genuinely rather see him fight Vanes (yes Vanes) or Lara assuming he gets past Angulo which I think he does easily enough. They may not well be a draw but who needs them to be when this guys guaranteed to make 30 mill per fight anyway.
Sorry but I don't see Canelo being even as competitive as Guerrero, real talk.
Doesn't have the stamina, too patient, too flat-footed, has no jab, very limited punch variety and shows absolutely zero urgency.
He wins one round at the most.
I'm not impressed with him or Trout but at least Trout has a good work ethic.
Please stop forcing this rubbish fight upon us.
The general trend here is to hype a fighter that Floyd/Pacquaio isn't fighting than when they actually fight them immediately discredit the same fighter as a bum and claim that he actually is scared of fighter B. When that fails they say they are juicing or too scared to fight middleweights or some bizarre conclusion.
Watch what happens if next Cinco de Mayo weekend Floyd fights Canelo. Guaranteed people will go on here and claim he cherry picked a guy who barely beat Trout, no work rate, etc, etc. Then they will claim he should have fought _____ instead.
He could, but like a lot of people have mentioned Canelo seems limited to short and widely separated bursts of attack. Cotto is perpetual activity by comparison.
You're right, he can't allow Floyd to settle and dictate the pace of the fight. He needs to fight nonstop
We know Floyd can do well when he cherry picks and bloats the JMMs of this world up and can win well. We want to know if Floyd can win or do well when he himself has to give advantages away, ie let canelo come in at 154 and be any weight he chooses on fight night.
Floyd never has given advantages to his opponents, dont mention DLH please. Because one time in your career is nothing to boast about against a old DLH and it was a split decision to boot.
:fing02: We may never know if Floyd has his way.
Canelo will be a big threat in my opinion. If he were to use the same game plan as Cotto and not gas out, he could do some damage.

The same blown up JMM who is supposedly stronger and faster now that he's adjusted to welterweight and yet said he wants no part of mayweather, lol. Even went as far as saying nobody beats Floyd right now. Oh, yeah. I'm guessing youre one of those guys who says Canelo "deserves" a shot at mayweather when his last fight was his only test in 40+ professional fights. Hey since we're talking about blown up fighters... do ya remember joselito lopez, lol me too.
So who should he fight? Fcking Garcia? Lara? Vanes? At least Canelo has a W over a top 154 lb'er now and will try for a Win.
Lara, yeah!
Schooled Williams and for me that one performance was far more impressive than Canelo's debatable win over Trout.
He was also whooping Vanes and got a b/s draw and fought Molina many feel he lost but in my eyes that could of gone either way.
Hes now about to crucify Angulo.
Its not just who you have fought or beat. Lara is a very well schooled southpaw with very good speed, decent power, movement who Floyd would have a very hard time boxing at range.
As displayed against Hernandez & Molina he isn't too shabby on the inside either.
Why don't people want to see him fight difficult fights? I'd much rather see him tested than against a guy who simply holds nothing but name value.

Floyd sells a million anyway. Hes not going to make much more no matter who he fights.
It may not matter to him right now, but it matters to SHO which probably lost a decent percentage of their yearly budget on this Guerrero success, even if they only missed break even by 100k buys. And you better believe it's all downhill, with the available options, and buyer remorse off Guerrero
no man...that's the same 118-110 snoozefest you're claiming the Canelo fight would be...at least i'd give a sh1t about watching THAT fight
Lol, good point but I feel Canelo is just so limited hes just a good, strong mid-range fighter. Vanes can adapt and I do feel he'd be more competitive than Canelo who I expect Floyd will of worked out in seconds. Hes got more tools than Canelo.
Its not so much I want this fight, I'd like the Lara fight but its more I'd rather Vanes than Canelo who for me I just can't see him having any sort of success.
But none of those fight will sell 1.5m. That's what makes it a natural fight, and a fight Showtime must be desperate to make.

Or fight Vanes, Lara or Molina.
None of those have any chance of happening. Of the fights that are realistic, Alvarez is the best option. I completely agree with you on Alvarez's chances, but it is what it is.
Folks jumped off the Pacquiao bandwagon quick and needed somewhere to go. That's all.
Yeah I think this is it. If Canelo improves and shows me more I will understand but as of right now I don't see the attraction in this fight and I see Floyd making him look ridiculous.
I'd rather see him fight somebody who may not be up there but potentially has the tools to give him a serious challenge, a guy like Lara.
Oh its definitely better than those listed but then again so is Lucas Matthysse, Danny Garcia, Tim Bradley/Marquez rematch

If he wants those other fights, great. But you agree this is better than Khan, Alexander, Guerrero etc? Better fight, much more money, what's not to like?

you're right...forget Canelo...let's round up the homeys and throw a fight party for Floyd-Vanes
At least Vanes would let his hands go and make a fight out of it rather than looking for one right hand where if it even glances he'll be sitting back and admiring it for the next 3 rounds.
He has the amateur pedigree, size, power, a good jab, good skills, a good chin. He can box from the outside, fight in the pocket.
But its just a case where certain fighters don't have the backing of some of the least talented ones.
It doesn't seem to me you buy your own argument. I agree Canelo doesn't have serious KO power but his size combined with decent boxing does give him the potential to put some pressure on Mayweather, especially if he goes to the body.
I do think Mayweather might get away with pot shotting Canelo to a victory but it will be much more interesting than than you make it out to be.
