I've read the book, and if you read Carlos Eleta's quote the doctors have it to him to lose a LOT of weight quickly! Duran balooned up to 180 - 200 lbs between fights! Have you ever seen Roberto Duran at lightweight? Why would he need something to make himself Strong and Fast when he already was strong and fast?? Which was more likely? That or giving a guy who had trouble making 135 something to help him lose weight?

I have top level show horses and it was probably Winstrol...which is, in fact, an anabolic steroid. Man you got money. Change your username to RichLikeMe. The fact that they told him they would inject him with a PED and he accepted is enough proof that he was willing to cheat, even if it didnt have the expected effects Well if those substances aren't banned by the commission or the sanctioning body, then it's not cheating. Today it would be the equivalent of training in high altitude or using hyperbaric chambers.

if it was peds then it doesn't seem like it helped him at all anyways..since it did the opposite of what it was supposed to do.

i could be wrong, as i have not looked into it specifically, but i seriously doubt there were drug tests being administered, or sanctions against what we call "PED" use when duran was a lightweight. that was 30-40 years ago. if it's not illegal it is not cheating. Exactly. I mean we are talking close to 40 years ago. Did they even have provisions for performance enhancing drugs back then? Performance enhancing did not even start to become a real science until the 80's, before then it was probably not only fully legal, but also dangerous from the sounds of it!LOL

A further point is that banned substances lists are also there to protect athletes health.

Well he that right hand he caught from Hearns cleaned him out anyway. If you don't know what the drug is you can't make accusations of cheating. Energy drinks improve performance so technically that's a PED, Caffeine was a banned substance until 2004.

I'm not too bothered about this but, Firstly, No one seems to have considered what the banned list of substances was at this time to be cheating it would need to be on this. Secondly, their have been many cases where athletes have confessed to doping, thinking they have received PED and actually the Dr /Team have been giving them a placebo.

I heard he was given horse tranqs to weaken him so that odds on his next fight would be massively against him at which point they took him off the tranqs, which returned him to normal killer levels Yes i just pulled it from my ass the old horse tranque hustle.

Yeah i forgot about Boldenone/Equipoise...it could be that too. Plenty of MMA and boxing guys have been caught for it in the past IIRC.
