Mass appeal. From what I know about the production, this looks like some straight to DVD shit.Yes, I'm sure you're right, it's mass appeal. A big name actor or celebrity helps bring in the paying customers. I guess that's why they have 6ft 1inch actors like Dinero and Washington play 5ft. 7inch boxers like LaMotta and Hurricane Carter and big eared 170 pound will Smith play 210 pound Ali. In fairness to these actors, they did a good job of getting into good lean shape and learning how to box.

I don't think it's very good casting. Usher is almost 35 and he doesn't look too much like Leonard who had just turned 24 when he fought Duran. It probably is not that big of roll in the movie so why not teach a young boxer to play Leonard rather than have an older rapper learn how to box?
