I mean I gave Mares a hard time cause of the low blows, but resume speaks for it self..The kid is a warrior and is moving up and weight doing this,I had my doubts about him..But he's sold me..Mares is Really Damn Good..
Seems like a carefully worded message of overall dislike to me. Lol. Nuance
But yeah he belongs p4p top ten. I mean, did you have Moreno ranked in your p4p list, prior to losing to Mares? If so that's not so fair, cuz Mares beat him
Yes, and it was the Moreno fight that really won me over on him and got the response that a lot more people seem to having after PDL. He's still got plenty of detractors and doubters, but no worry.
Mares is great at what he is but his style has it's vulnerabilities. He'll be "good" until he loses to the wrong opponent(s). Then everyone will rewrite the book on him like they did Ricky Hatton.
I think he's good, but I've already seen him beaten (Agbeko) and I've seen a few things during fights where I can see him being beaten again soon, but that doesn't take away the fights he has won. I'm just not drinking from the coolaid fountain as I think Donaire and Rigo would toast him.
No Moreno....I don't dislike him, just never thought he was p4p material. He is very good and I was surprised at the Ponce stoppage but people are trying hard to pit him against Donaire and Rigo. I just got inished rewatching the Ponce fight (literally like 2 minutes ago) and I think Rigo would counter him numerous times due to how wide he swings.
I had Donaire in my top 10 but did not immediately put Rigo in the #4 spot just because he beat Donaire. There are far more accomplished guys ahead of him as well. There just aren't enough spaces for all the great fighters out there imo. I mean how many professional boxers are we really talking about.....10,000 or so? Being in the top 11-20 is nothing to turn a nose up at.
Yea but do you think Mares would try to outbox a boxer in RiGod? No he would apply the pressure that Nonito was too scared to apply. With that being said, I just dont pick RiGod that easily. Im torn on that one.
He's great in the sense that at least even tho they never materialize he seems like hes game to fight anyone, but i would recommend he keeps mentioning names and not actually fighting them, there are at least 4 fighters i can think of just of the top of my head from 122 to 130 that spark him out.

I actually would rank him top 10..
Ring has both Broner and Canelo up there (obviously)..and he's got more significant wins than both of them combined IMO
I don't have either Broner or Canelo in my top 10....I have BHOP, Froch, Wlad and Vitali in there which some people (a lot of people) don't have Vitali or BHOP in there.
I have Rigo, Donaire, Mares, Garcia, Matthysse, and Peterson sitting outside the top 10.
Anyone else think that if there is one GBP vs TR Fight that can be made i'd be mares vs rigo? Arum has clearly shown a less than enthusiastic interest in Rigo and if promoting him is as difficult as he says then for the sake of giving his fighter a big payday and more exposure against a mexican star he'd probably be interested in making that fight since GB has shown for their part that they'll put mares against the best in the weight class.
I feel the Ponce win convinced me he is really as good as he seems to be. I thought he was decent but he comes through when it counts. Against Rigo though....I'm still going with Rigo. I feel the speed and accuracy are going to be a big problem whether it's at 122 or 126.
I just think and originally thought that Rigo was just that good but his career has taken way too long to develop. Mares is pretty solid and I have to give him credit.....I have him just outside the top 10 P4P because there are a lot of really good fighters who are just more accomplished than he is right now. I think he will move up but it's gonna take a top guy or two to retire first.

Who's more acomplished P4P? We know who the top five are but mares belongs in that second half of the top 10.

He's a little beast. 1 of my top 5 favorite fighters. What impressed me is that he was able to hurt Ponce like he was the natural FW and Ponce was the one moving up.
Good point,I totally agree..He really looked like the more stronger puncher and overall like he was just on another level..

I mean look what he did to Moreno... A p4p guy at the time. And don't tell me those left hands gonna stop him from Rigo cuz Mares has a great beard and recovery skills. And Darchinyan is no fairy in the power punching dept, for his size.
Moreno was a great boxer..but the pressure got to him..he couldn't stand his ground when he was getting bullied..Rigo can stand in the pocket and dish it with Mares, sure he's been caught by lesser fighters as well..but he admitted to being over confident and lackadaisical..and he took Donaires shots well..so both of their beards are tested and sturdy..it would boil down to skill..and possibly speed..which I believe Rigo has the edge in both departments..
Hopefully it gets made..we can make a nice bet on it..
I'm not totally disagreeing though..Mares has the power and skill to catch Rigo..but I just see Rigo being too slippery and crafty..along with too quick and strong to succumb to Mares' power at any point..
again I could be wrong..but I'd definitely favor Rigo in this one..
I'd welcome a bet if the time come.. I aint gonna bet against this kid again.
What about against Rigo?..
I love Mares..his style is dope (win by any means necessary)..He always finds a way to adapt and get the W..
but I'm afraid Rigo is too quick and strong for Mares..I saw him get dropped pretty hard by Darchinyan who is awkward himself..but Rigo wouldn't allow him to survive if he hurts him..the speed would kill him IMO..
I give Mares a really good shot at beating Rigo..Donaire had success and drop Riog when he went all out..Thing is I don't believe Donaire was conditioned right or just did not have the guts to keep the pressure on..I don't think Mares is going to have that problem..I give Mares a really good shot at beating Rigo..I would love to see it..
