Mine has to be Joel Julio. After seeing him a few times on ShoBox i literally thought he was the next Tito Trinidad.
Also Juanma and Jermaine Taylor, Jeff Lacy and Samuel Peter
Those guys all did win titles and where in major fights, but i thought they were going to be the next big ppv stars.
Dominck Guinn was another guy i was really high on till I watched him punch himself vs James Toney.
Cant really remember any of the hype jobs back in the day 80's-90's except for maybe Dana Rosenblatt. I remember Arum saying in 1995 that Dana-oscar for the middleweight belt would be the biggest fight in boxing
Word, I've never seen somebody demolish top guys like Daniel Ponce De Leon and Rafael Marquez, 2 tough guys who are game for everybody else, then gets stopped by Salido.
Hell Daniel is still get tough fights against Gamboa, Broner, and recently Mares, and Lopez destroyed him in a round!
I wouldn't call James Kirkland a bust. He didn't have Anne Wolfe in his corner against Ishida who brings out the beast in him. He was with some other guy who actually tried to teach him how to box which really screwed him up. Nevertheless he had one of the best comebacks ever destroying Angulo who was the baddest Mexican at 154 at the time in his own backyard.
Lopez just killed him with that right hook man, killed em!
Yeah the better Ponce De Leon does vs these guys like Broner ect the more shocking it is how Juanma fell off! U never know he might turn it around but i cant see it now.....
Kirkland for me is what he is - a kill or be killed warrior with a massive punch and suspect chin, always a recipe for excitement!
Chavez Jr. We're talking MEGA HYPE for a guy who was gifted a belt by uncle Sulaiman and has beaten 46 bums and had one good round versus Sergio. Chavez will never beat a legit A-Level fighter unless said fighter is faded and weight drained.
Chavez i agree is nothing special but he's actually ended up BETTER than i thought he would be.....
Ismayl Sillakh
wouldn't call him a bust just yet. he got caught in a fight he was winning. just a set back, i think he can still come back and still dominate.

I believed in the hype of Andre Berto and Marcos Maidana :S
Though I wouldn't call Maidana a bust but I thought that he would be one of the kingpins at 140.
Kassim Ouma I guess, he was highly regarded, then lost to Karmazin, and Taylor.
There was one in the 140lbs division, Carlos Gonzales, during the time when Chavez reign supreme, he was something like 40-0?
I really liked Kassim Ouma and was disappointed that he fell off as well!

I wouldn't classify DeGale as a bust just yet. His management is not getting the right fights for him now; and it doesn't necessarily mean he's gone "bust."
How bout Andy Lee? Lee was being hyped pretty hard (by Emmanuel Stewart his trainer, no less..:lol1:) 3-4 years ago.
He's not a "bust" yet but he needs to improve drastically and quickly because at this moment in time he' struggling at European level.
Bojado. Thought he had special written all over him.....WRONG!
Juanma has been a massive let down for me also.
I also thought Matthew Hall was gonna be a player at world level but he didnt make it outta the domestic scene
James Degale
