by fighters, trainers, managers, promoters, etc..... than he is by alot of fans? Ive always heard most all boxers, etc... give him mad props and it seems like they are appreciating him even more now that his career is coming to an end. Its like they realize that he's special, will soon be gone, and is a brilliant ATG.
Meanwhile its the opposite with the fans. He's getting hated on more by the day. Do you think they will appreciate him more when he's gone? The funny thing is alot of these fans who dont like him or think he's overrated are fans of the same boxers who think that Floyd is the best now and one of the best ever
I hate Ray Leonard as much as a mentally healthy human being can without being creepy, but I wouldn't say he ducked Hagler. He was a piece of sh*t to him when he made it seem like he was going to fight Hagler and instead retired, but the man had an eye injury that kept him away for years.
i think he waited him out till he started slowing down. you could argue he also ducked aaron pryor which he did in the sense he low balled him knowing pryor wouldnt take the fight
Here is my opinion: Floyd comes out of boxing's post modern phase. Boxing and Football particularly have certain institutions which reek of the Slave/Master relationship. Football drafts are in many ways like a glorified slave market.....This one runs faster he will get bid up for sure, etc etc. And Boxing? For most of history a boxer has needed a manager and during King's era the promoters became the owners of a fighter in a way where before one might have considered the promoter, manager etc as partners. King and Arum in particular have a history of using a contract to basically determine the future of a particular fighter....Talented fighters like T Witherspoon who crossed King ultimately paid a heavy price during their careers.
When Oscar De La Hoya broke from Arum suddenly a former fighter became a part of the real business....Now folks I am not talking about the real staff of a promoter of manager...but the "face" of this company. Bernard Hopkins and Oscar De La Hoya became members of a minority who had real business interests in boxing that challenged the old way of doing business.....
Enter Floyd Mayweather....The mistake that 50 cents first did was thinking Floyd wanted to challenge the standard way of doing business....Create a syndicate and promote fighters that way.
Floyd is in essence the first fighter to actively and unabashadely manage his own career through and through. Yes he partners with Golden Boy but Floyd has his own management and it is based on his decisions.....No slave owner at the top of the pyrmid, no ex pug promoter....No record company corruptor (fifty cents) at the top of the prymid is Floyd and the IRS....PERIOD!
Still wonder why fighters love this man? Still think Bronner is an idiot to worship him? (said tongue in cheek) Floyd has broken the boundaries open. When Floyd turned down the Pac fight and stuck it to Arum he did something most fighters could not, in the past have been able to afford to do. In the past Arum or King could determine that you would not fight again pretty much! But Floyd has thrived....Fighters see this and naturally aspire to be free as human beings, free to practice their craft and make a living without all the sycophants like King Arum and even Golden Boy around. Make sense?
the same sugar ray leanard that ducked hagler for many years. the same one who came out and said he was wrong about floyd?

really ...coz i can name fighters that have said floyd is a duck or scared, larry holmes and ray leonard come to mind and there's many more who have said the same thing..trainers like macka foley ,joe goosen , martin castillo's trainer have all said the same thing too ...i think most admire his skills but they believe he does'nt take the real threats which is the truth...
the same sugar ray leanard that ducked hagler for many years? the same one who came out and said he was wrong about floyd? The same sugar ray who refused to do testing for his second fight with hearns because hearns trainer thought he was on steroids? the same leanard who seems jealous of floyd for some odd reason considering they are from different eras
The boxing stake holders ( Trainers, fighters etc ) are more appreciative because they can empathize. same as Floyd they earn from boxing. They have no option but to justify what Floyd is doing. ( * Not their or Floyd's faults )
Fans are the consumers of boxing events so obviously they can see schemes and all. They want what they want and obviously they are a victim because even if they know they wont see what they want to see, they still go and hope Floyd gets beaten :D
I think the reason boxers like him more is they've probably been around the sport longer. I started watching boxing around the Oscar fight and hated him, yet I become a bigger fan every time he fights. I'm sure I'll rewatch some of his fights in 10 years and pick up on new things I didn't notice in the moment.

I don't think it has anything to do with Floyd himself but with the way we are marketed as people today. Similar to golf, lacrosse, tennis maybe, boxing has become an acquired taste type of sport. We live in a new type of market place. I can see why folks would want to see ko after ko but that's just not boxing. Unless there's a mismatch of course. I honestly don't think any boxing expert can dislike Floyd. That would be impossible. He has mastered his craft. Anyone who can master his craft deserves recognition..especially amongst his peers!
Quit blaming Arum. If Floyd wanted those fights, he could have had them. Easily. and Mosley is not going to fight Mayweather before the boss of GBP does.
I don't think they'll be able to blame Arum in the Canelo duckage which is waiting to happen.
actually the opposite. casual fans don't pay attention to negotiations, floyd pricing himself out, etc...they just watch the fights and say "floyd's ducking pac!" even though it's true they don't know why it's true. people who follow the nuances know floyd's long history of ducking. many pro boxers have come out and said floyd is ducking so even though they appreciate his "skills" they also appreciate his ducking ability.
Jealousy is a mother fucker~ so is envy
You like to parrot talking points, maybe you should work for the State Department~
your conclusion is invalid. you say floyd left in order to get a hoya fight. i clearly proved that was not the case because floyd priced himself out of that fight when he was with top rank. you know how we know that? we can just ask floyd who accepted 10 million for the fight after he left. we know floyd never seriously tried to make the hoya fight, so how can you say he left in order to get the hoya fight? golden boy and top rank didn't stop working with each other till september 2006 so yeah floyd didn't have a time machine. why did floyd really leave top rank? to handpick his opponents? to avoid cotto/margarito? or maybe he just liked their logo more?
My conclusion is perfectly fine.
I didn't see you prove anything just say some **** without any back up, when it is common knowledge that Top Rank and GBP were not on working terms back then. Plus Floyd bought himself out, is he just going to crawl back after doing that.
Also why are you saying we? do you have a mouse in your pocket? Are you Todd DuBouf?
I get why people don't like him but most fans are as shallow as a saucer. Most people just watch fights to be entertained, so they are focused on whatever suits them plus you can't please everyone and the more successful you become the more people will bite at your back that is just human nature.
People more focused on the nuances of the sport will probably be kinder to Floyd than say most casual boxing fans. People actually in the game are focused on that kind of stuff
I am perfectly fine with people not liking him also that has kept his money line below were it should be for a long time and more people bet with their hearts than their heads and there are no bets if everyone agrees.

Top Rank and GBP fued goes back before that from when Top Rank accused them of poaching fighters before Manny, because they already had mediation set up for that very issue with Manny.
Oscar left Top Rank because he felt they did shady ****, and Arum didn't like that he aced him out. The feud started when Oscar left.
If Arum would have paid Floyd his 20 million and his 12 for Hatton Arum would have made money on the deal~ so I don't think he thinks he made the right call.
Facts are just facts, you can twist them any way you want to make an argument work, if you lack intellectual integrity.

It was a misunderstanding, shall we move on?
Sure
Except you didn't, hence why we're still wasting time micro-analyzing a conversation that happened just 10 mins ago.
It got explained in the very next post and you should have been able to pick up on it in the first place.
I suppose it's fair enough of an explanation that he can now fight nobodies in terms of drawing power and generate just as much revenue by himself. Which goes right along in explaining the TS's question about why "fans" hate him and fighters/trainers don't.
Which is what all of this was about anyway, from the get-go.

why don't you use facts? it's hard to be biased when using facts. the top rank-golden boy didn't feud didn't start until september 2006 when pac signed with golden boy. floyd left top rank months before that. oscar didn't want to work with top rank is completely inaccurate but i guess you made it up in order to support your conclusion. do you work for any right wing think tanks by chance? if not apply today!
floyd asked for a 20 million guarantee to fight hoya when he was with top rank. floyd accepted a 10 million guarantee when he actually fought hoya. a reasonable person would say floyd was not serious when he asked for 20 million, but i want to know what an unreasonable person would say...this is where you come in. go!
