I dont think Canelo vs Mayweather will happen because of weight. The only way the fight would happen if the weigh in was on fight night, not the day before or there was terms in the contract regarding weight.
Canelo weighed 172lbs for trout, mayweather weighed 151 for cotto. Not really fair. Floyd could make 140 still, alot of his WW opponents have out weighed him fight night.
Floyd started his career at 130lb and has fought as high as 151 at the back end of his career. Canelo started his career at 140 (when he was 16) and will prob finish it at around 168 maybe a few fights at 175.
The weight is too big of a differences to ignore and would be too much of an advantage for canelo.
I dont think the fight gets made, unless there are some terms in the contract about the weight canelo can blow up to. (im welling to make some bets that it doesn't get made)
Does anyone else agree that the weigh will be to much of a problem? If canleo really want to test himself go to 160 and fight GGG who he would still out weigh on fight night.
He could prob pick up a belt at 160 vs Geale.
Guerrero jumped a weight class to fight the best, maybe canleo should target p4p #2 Ward?
I know in recent times that fighter have giving away huge weight advantages like JJC vs Sergio. Not sure what the difference was but i know it was huge cause Sergio is a small middle wight to begin with.
But i still think its unfair to the fighter to have to give away such an advantage just because a guys body is really good at cutting weight. Thoughts? (BTW i still think its a winnable fight for Floyd but i don't think he risks it)
Mayweather was stepping on Guerrero foot all fight long and you can tell it was on purpose too.

so what?! clever tactic, southpaws use it all the time against orthodox fighters as well!!

It's one thing to to be fast enough to handle Trout but Floyd is an entirely different story, it's hard enough to to touch him as it is, Canelo on top of that sets a decent pace...Floyd will be fine here. It's just not gonna happen now, most likely in May of next year.
Why do you think it will happen later and not next? Do they want to market canelo even more vs Cotto? If these ppv numbers are right showtime are going to be putting pressure on floyd to pick a creditable/marketable opponent.
Who they got? Khan? Danny? Lucas? Surely not Devon?
(did you notice Mayweather steps on Guerrero s foot in the sig?)

You're incurably and wilfully stupid. You will suck floyd's plums until your last breath.:nonono:
Typical gong, argument gets completely blown out the water and then this stuff.
It sure is tough for you to answer a very simple question- Much like fighting at 145, if no advantage is gained or lost, why ask for it and use negotiating leverage to get it?
right gong. what people think and what the truth is are not the same thing. see republicans and where president obama was born.
If "appeared" is key than "seemed" is also. yet you discount one and accept the other. you just have too much hate invested to acknowledge what everyone knows-Manny refused the fight over OST in 09.
Rehydration limits isn't anything new. Much like fighting at 145, if no advantage is gained or lost, why ask for it and use negotiating leverage to get it?

What an absolute crock of horse shit.:lol1: Its been proven over and over again that the overwhelming majority of people know it was team flom that torpedoed that fight. I know you dont like it but thats just the way it is. Furthermore, Cliff Rold has had a damn sight more than one sentence to say on the subject and again at that time, and in that sentence the key word was 'appeared'.
Similarly, the only people banging on about rehydration and its mythical andvantages are, surprise, surprise...floboners like yourself. It just iisnt an issue and never has been.

That was just the most accessible quote at the time I posted. Its common knowledge but posters like you like to pretend it didn't happen.
I posted the whole sentence so how is context lost?
I use the word advantage because as most posters have opined Canelo is a threat primarily because he is bigger than floyd. As such; size/weight would be an advantage for Canelo.

Wow, you can quote one person opinion but even there the operative word is 'appeared', and also lifting a small segment of one of Cliff's assumptions. You silly ****s dont do context! lol
Also you should be more careful when talking about weight...you might want to drop the word 'advantage' when using it in this context as it clearly isnt one.

The Floyd that fought Guerrero would royally beat on Canelo. Not enough stamina speend or ring acumen to beat Floyd. Floyd will be even sharper for that bout. All Canelo has is size and power and the way Floyd fights with his father.......that won't matter.
Cliff Rold
Yes it did go like that.
As ive posted before I don't want a floyd/canelo fight to have any weight clause or rehydration clause same way I dont want sergio/floyd for the MW title at 154. But I think its clear something will be done to reduce a 20lb weight advantage for the B side fighter.

It didnt quite go like that, did it Dumb. Nice to see you've got you've jumped on the 'Rehydration = advantage.....leave floyd alone!' bandwagon.:lol1:
It’s a shame that Pacquiao and Top Rank appeared to kill the negotiations on that fight then and a shame that Mayweather never seemed interested in a serious negotiation again after that. Cliff Rold

This is complete nonsense. The weight a fighter rehydrates can actually and usually does work against the fighter. If you can make weight, you're good to go. Stop with the floboner excuses, there were enough as it is and now it looks like the only decent fights for floyd are one weight class above(and one he holds a title at), we have rehydration being pulled out of flojob's arses like it make a difference.:lol1:
In the wake of floyd ducking manny over his testing bs, floboners all suddenly became experts in doping, now the are all dietary and nutrition guru's. Fuk outta here with that bullshit.

Floyd is capable of getting the win, regardless of the weight "disadvantage". That's why fans are interested in it, because Canelo is viewed as a stiff challenge.

Obviously no one would ask a fighter to fight someone 20 lbs heavier but this is floyd so his detractors think that fighting larger opponents makes a floyd loss more likely so they are all for it.
I think once floyd saw that Canelo rehydrates up to 170 floyd is probably thinking of waiting until May to fight Canelo because he assumes it will be harder for Canelo to make weight-which should minmize the size advantage. But canelo is still a JMW.
I'd prefer that there not be any rehydration or weight clauses myself as it takes away from the victory should he win.
The weight is no excuse.
While I agree, Canelo would clearly be a lot bigger than Mayweather, it's not an excuse while Mayweather is a 154 lb champion. If he was to drop the belt and say "I'm done with 154, I'm too small" or something like that, then fair enough (although 90% of NSB would cry "duck"). However, as long as he's got that belt... then we've gotta look at potential fights in the class.
I hope it happens at some point. I don't necessarily think it needs to be Mayweather's next fight, but I hope it happens sometime next year at least.
i hope Team Mayweather is also concern about the weight issue and request a same day weigh in...and Mayweather also should be the voice to bring same day weigh ins back like he was so loud about the drug testing issue...he is the biggest name in boxing that could definatly help...
Yeah really, because what the sport needs is more fatalities. Accomodating floyd and his bumsniffing fans is a worthy price to pay!:nonono:
Rehydration is the biggest non issue in boxing today, why and how can you tell? Because flojob's have taken it to heart just like floyd and his two months a year 'olympic(lol)' testing.

I stopped reading at 'not really fair'.
It doesn't matter if Canelo comes in at 172 and Mayweather 151.
If Canelo can make the 154 limit, it doesn't matter what he hydrates to. They're the rules. In actual fact, that weight 'advantage' could work against him as Floyd would be quicker, more evasive.
At the end of the day Floyd has fought at 154 twice, holds a title there and is considered the best in the division after Canelo.
It's a legit fight.
