No official PPV #'s yet for Floyd but 2 industry sources tell me they look bad (under 1M). We'll see. If true, heavy $$ losses for Showtime
Just saw this on the underground what do you guys think?
I still believe it will do a little over a milion...
He was on the verge of stopping him in the 8th, before hurting his hand.
The Ghost was getting taken apart and badly hurt, something 'big' punchers hadn't been able to do. The hurt hand is the only reason Guerrero saw the final bell.
Which big punchers are these? Guerrero thought Aydin was one, but not if you ask Karass, Jojo Dan, and Said Ouali
No, we're saying when Floyd is put in with someone like the ghost, he is suppose to finish the fight in a tko or KO fashion. Instead he just cruise to an easy victory which is the smart thing to do but it's like he didnt even wanna try to finish Robert. As much as Floyd was out classing Robert, Floyd chose the easy decision win. Just imagine watching Michael Jordan play all his game without dunking even on a fast break all by himself he goes and does a lay up lol.

A few friends of mine pitched in and bought it, but I said just before that I wouldnt be surprised to see it do less than a Mill. The promotion for the fight was mediocre, the CBS coverage wasn't THAT helpful, there was no real Promo tour and Guerrero got arrested in the meantime.
Let's see what the official numbers are because if it is low, I don't know how Showtime is going to be up for a Garcia / Alexander PPV fight for Floyd.
This is why the supposed "6 fight $250 mill deal" was actually revealed to be a ONE fight $32 mill deal with options for a maximum of 6 altogether over 30 months -probably one at a time, and boxing contracts and deals are so murky that no one can really know what's going on. All i know is that regards the huge purses that are supposed to be paid to boxers they always end up with a hell of a lot less unless they've made wise investments whilst they were earning.
I don't believe that in today's financial climate, such huge sums of money can actually be paid over. I think it's all contractual BS and PR.
And we don't really know if Showtime actually contracted to pay Mayweather $32 mill, or if this is his own "guarantee" to himself by Mayweather "Productions" like his last $32 "guarantee" to himself so that he could claim to have received the greatest guarantee in history. outdoing Mike Tyson's $31 mill. All PR crap I'd bet.
So would you like Floyd to just be not as good so it's more exciting for many people? lol I don't get it really. People KNOW he's an excellent fighter and that most opponents are going to be outmatched, which is why he takes so much crap from people. If he fights and beats Canelo I would LOVE to see the excuses that came from that win. They s*it on every opponent that he has had, and even the ones under 140 they say this guy was this or that one was that. It's no wonder he's stopped caring what the masses think about him. He made his money, if I were him I wouldn't care what any of you thought of me either.

Does he have any credibility?
He's biased beyond belief and talks a hell of a lot of p!sh.
Mostly about Haye, who nobody takes serious anyway. But in general, the scoops you get from Rafael are reliable, he's very careful not to overextend.
The problem I have is, if the fight is shown to have done OVER 1m PPV's will Fat Dan lose his credibility?

This doesn't surprise me one bit. No one even knew Floyd had a fight coming up, and when they did find out they were disappointed with his opposition. And obviously no Canelo on the card to boost it. It probably did 800k.
This fight was pretty much the equivilant of the pac-clottey fight which got like 800k ppv buys from Pac alone. The 900k ppv buys for this fight is from Mayweather alone.
it actually did 700k buys.
Everyone knows what boxing is and that the goal is to win the fight. That isnt the whole thing though. It is sports entertainment, and for boxing to stay relevant, it needs to be entertaining. When Floyd fights people like Ghost, it's just a snoozefest. There is no drama, no build up, nothing.
I know this is anecdotal, but I've watched the last two big PPVs at the "Tilted Kilt" restaurant in San Diego. It's a massive sports bar place.. like Hooters on Steroids. Lots of "casual fans" pack the place for PPVs. During the Pac/Marquez fight, the tension in the place was super thick. Everyone "ooohing" and "ahhing" with everyone punch landed. And when Pac went to sleep, the place just about exploded. It was atmosphere was absolutely electric.
During this FLoyd fight, it just quiet. At first people would "oooh" when Floyd landed his right hands, but after it became apparent that Ghost was completely outmatched, people just kinda stopped caring. They watched, but no one was on the edge of their seat wondering what would happen. The fight was essentially over after the 2nd round. Stuff like that isnt going to win fans.

He landed 60% of his power punches and that is considered running? Do you even know what the purpose of boxing is? The art of hit and not getting hit and Floyd is a pure MASTER at it. If you think he's boring then go back to watching manny get KO'd again or his "cherrypicking" of Rios since he's had 2 fights at JWW. Guerrero would still beat Rios' ass... so what does that say for manny I ask? People always want to compare the 2, so they should justify that one. At least Guerrero had 2 fights at WW even if he did jump a division.

Floyd is a boring boxer.
He just ran and countered for the entire fight. He never made the slightest attempt to KO Guerrero, he just worked for the decision win.
Only a fool would pay $70 to watch Floyd run and pitty-pat.

Fight was trash. Opponent was weak. Promotion is tepid. Floyd might be a master of the craft, but his style is boring to casual fans. Couple that with no one outside of boxing even knowing who the ghost was. Just terrible.
It's worth bearing in mind that Showtime don't need to make money from Floyd's fights. Paying Floyd was part of getting GBP and all of Haymon's fighters so breaking even was probably acceptable.
Big losses are a different matter. No way they can stomach it if PPV sales fall well short of the 1M mark.
