if you think pacquiao/rios is going to be a competitive fight then you don't know anything about boxing
when you post "not that mayweather or rigondeaux fights", that just proves it. you dont appreciate the sport, BOXING, not SLUGGING/BAR FIGHTING
Pacquiao will KO rios in 7 rounds
so u want majority of the boxing fans to be purist?? just STFU ok?? No wonder boxing lost so many fans coz of fans like u force-feeding majority fans with ur so called sweetscience of urs...have it ur way!
Well since it seems Alvarado got screwed, because according to Koncz they picked Rios because he does absolutely nothing more than come forward (but hey lets get real, Alvarado would get smoked too, so what's the difference??? Just fight the guy who just won), I wouldn't mind seeing Alvarado fight Khabib or Provonikov.
man the yellow font color on your nickname is hard as hell to read
Yeah, it's suppose to have a black outline around it but for some reason it disappeared. Thanks for the heads up. Gonna check to see if I could get back the black outline.
lmao, you don't even understand the concept of hindsight being 20/20.
And hahaha, Berto made it a tight fight? How? Ghost UD12 by all three judges 116-110, did you actually WATCH the fight?
Yup saw it and know what you mean.
Go reread what I said. Berto started off pretending to be Floyd. That was the difference.
After that, it was closer! Berto was clueless defensively but he kept on catching Guerrero on the inside. Even though he did OK, Guerrero didn't need to be on the inside but that was his plan and he was sticking to it because of his concern of Berto connecting with his shots on the outside. Right there is all I needed to see and know about Guerrero ...... NOT a good candidate for Floyd!
If you saw a different fight, let me know!
As far as talent; Rios and Alvarado are pretty much the same fighter. Plain and simple Rios is the bigger name, period. It's not like mile high KO'd Rios in 1 round and is now being overlooked. If Rios-Alvardo fight again its still 50/50. I do think Alvarado deserves the opportunity to make serious money but I'm ok with Rios-Manny. Besides, Alvarado is adamant about making his first defense in Denver.
^^^This right here.. ^^^

Hindsight?
Berto:
- Inactive for 14+ months
- Fought under 5 rounds in 2+ years
- Lost to Ortiz who couldn't miss every time he threw something
- Berto was criticized for having a weak resume for the longest time
- PEDs free
- Weak defense. Not hindsight. See Ortiz fight as an example.
- Never beat anyone noteworthy
Not only that. After Berto stopped pretending to be Floyd, he kept on connecting on Guerrero and made it a tight fight. Meaning, Guerrero is very hittable!
Hindsight?
- Floyd has better defense than Berto
- Floyd is more accurate than Berto
- Floyd has a better resume than Berto
- Floyd beat Ortiz who beat Berto
- Berto looks clueless when being attacked. Floyd?
Guerrero had basically one plan against Berto. It worked but Guerrero is still slow and has little movement. Not good if fighting Floyd!
I know that all roads must go thru Berto before they get to fight Floyd but this is just too much!
lol at Mr. 20/20 Hindsight here, yeah, Berto was like a 2:1 favorite over Ghost.

I think Alvarado took hush money to not make a fuss about not getting the fight. Sorry, but they were talking about fighting him and he suddenly being unavailable does not pass the smell test at all.

You mean the Berto that came out pretending to be Floyd was supposed to win after his inactivity and being PEDs free?
Funny how you can excuse Floyd but not Manny who was KOed in devastating fashion and where his #1 and #2 OPTIONS said no to him ... guys he lost to!!!
What odds would you give Manny vs Marquez (Option #1)? Guerrero vs Floyd, only 15% had Guerrero winning .... I'm sure they were just die hard Guerrero fans.
If the WW pool is not great, why not fight at 154 where he last fought and held a title? I would be game for a fight against Lara, as an example.
guerrero was supposed to lose against berto, for what it's worth
outside of top rank fighters, the 147 talent pool is awful, not really mayweathers fault. guerrero was the best fighter available at 147 for him to fight on may 4th

Why do flomos still hold Manny and Floyd to the same standards? Isn't it obvious one is vastly more skilled than the other by now? You'll often hear "b-but if Floyd fought Rios he would be crucified for it." Well no shit, one is coming off of two losses, one being a brutal stoppage while the other is still regarded as top 3 p4p. The double standards never cease to amaze me.
Of course this fight was made to make Manny look good, anyone with half a brain can see this. There's no shame in Roach saying what he did, either. He's hardly going to want a fight that'll make Manny not look quite as good as he can, thus causing his stock to fall even lower.
I think Arum and Team Pacquiao haven't let the dream of a fifth fight with Marquez slip away and are just trying to get Pacquiao in one or two fights that'll make him look good to build up the Marquez showdown again.
This fight will also be a good fight in terms of seeing how much the KO really took out of Manny. It'll answer various questions asked, like how will his chin hold up when he's hit hard again, will he be gun shy when faced with someone trying to make a war out of things and has he still 'got it', in general.
For those of you saying that this fight is a cherry pick, I can understand it, but let's get a little perspective here; Pacquiao was just knocked out cold and this fight is, as I've said, to test his current ability for possible future big fights and make his stock rise again. It's not the fight that everyone wants to see, but it also makes sense.
why do you keep bringing up floyd? this thread is about alvarado being skipped over for brandon rios. IMO the finger injury excuse is just that, an excuse. read the article i posted last page, especially the freddie roach quote. come on, at least be objective
You skipped the most important part in all that I wrote.
This is where you completely lose me:
Manny got KOed yet he wanted MARQUEZ. If not Marquez then BRADLEY. They, OPTION #1 and OPTION #2 didn't want to fight Manny so then it was Alvarado or Rios.
If either of those 2 initial options would have said yes then Manny would be taking on someone that is clearly not a cherry pick. Right? So it's not Manny's fault that they said no. Right?
The difference between Rios and Alvarado is just a matter of opinion since Rios KOed Alvarado in their first fight while Alvarado won a close one in the second fight.
Finally, like I said, the news out there may be why its Rios not Alvarado .... while for me it's not a biggy between these two, I think you should wait until its confirmed to be untrue about Alvarado's hand before you go all out on this. Again, just my opinion!
It all depends on how you disguise your opponent's achievements.
Guerrero's last 3 opponents:
Katsidis : Lost 4 of 5 last fights
Aydin: Lost his last 2 WW fights
Berto: Lost 2 of last 3 fights - was inactive prior to Guerrero and PEDs free.
Guerrero fights at WW: 2
Guerrero fights at 140: 0
"Who is Guerrero? Who has he fought? I'm no Berto!" - Floyd Mayweather
