All he does is win win win no matter what. But when people discuss him facing fighters (that don't want none), they act like he can't compete. A lot of guys didn't think he could beat PDL, not only did he beat him, he dropped him twice en route to a stoppage. Neither Donaire or Rigo have an easy go at this lil beast.
mares is a tougher match of style than donaire
expect him to do better.
i can't see him winning, but i expect him to actually let his hands go in combination and cut the ring off, instead of just looking for a huge punch all night.
He would indeed do better than Donaire, but I can't see anyone winning more than 4 rounds against Rigondeaux at this stage.
Mares likes to load up his power shots, Rigo see's those coming before Mares has even thought about throwing them.
Other than Ridondeaux, Mares can beat anyone in and around his division. He has the goods.
I thought Ponce was just starting to push him around and outdo him physically and then BOOM, down he went.

mares is p4p top 10 for sure. it's laughable that the ring has bradley (who went life and death with provodnikov,) and guerrero (who got his ass handed to him and ate 60% of floyd's right hands,) ahead of young mares.
mares the truth
he young
yea man...your bwoy DESERVES major props....it took me a while to warm to him after the Agbeko fights....but all hate aside....he's a problem....the more I watch him fight, the more I like him.....he's one of those fighters I can become a fan of in the near future...I respect his game alot!!
Yup yup. He's not pretty all the time, but he is effective.
The guy has been one of my favorite fighters ever since I seen him fight with Nacho in his corner. Oscar De La Hoya wife told him you better sign this kid and he became GBP first world champion.
No he didn't bro. But I like the rest of the post.

Willingly co-promoted? Gamboa-Ponce De Leon. Forced by purse bid? Lara-Martirosyan.
Well, now that they are competing in different networks, it's even less likely that they will co-promote a fight--let alone any Mares v. (insert TR fighter).
Mares is good but he has nothing for Rigondeaux. No chance whatsoever. I feel like he'd give Donaire a tougher fight than I previously thought, but I'd still favor Nonito.
No chance whatsoever? Rigondeaux should move up and challenge Garcia at 126 then. You can almost be certain Mares would give Rigondeaux a better run than Donaire did because he's actually capable of fighting on the front foot and bringing pressure at a much higher work rate, with the tools to make it an uncomfortable night. Donaire was abysmal in that role and made it all the more a walk in the park though only a fool would deny that Rigo's counters give a convincing incentive to cease opening up. And yeah, you still favor Nonito because he prefers a guy that is going to bring the fight to him, and he'd have countless more opportunities to land his hook.
He can fight Gonzalez, Velez, and Russell. I honestly think we'll see Russell fight him within a year, if Russell takes a step up between now and then.
But it does suck we won't see Mares-Mikey because they are the two best guys at 126 as of right now.
Fight would definitely be made if they were under the same banner. At 126. Maybe we'll get Garcia-Rigo though... At a Catchweight, of course. (per Rigo).

I don't know why Golden Boy and Top Rank can't just do flat fee's to promote certain fights, and take turns. If they were smart, that's what they'd do. But now that the networks are beefing too, that won't happen anytime soon.
Mares will never fight a Top Rank fighter, I honestly can't recall the last time GBP and Top Rank co-promoted a fight... Mares and Donaire (or Rigo) should have fought at 122. On another note, I'm not sure why Mares or GBP was in such a rush to move up weight; maybe it was a size issue?

Anyone has chance against Rigondeaux? The guy is out of this world, that's for sure, but that doesn't mean that Mares is not a top notch fighter because he keeps proving fight after fight that he's an elite boxer.

I like Mares, but I have to agree with you all the way here.

All the fighters I named are good/big name fighters today, Johnny Gonzalez was soundly beaten by Ponce de Leon and Russell still has a year or two before he can reach the top level (the guy has been fighting nothing but cans and perhaps rightly so at this stage in his career). I hadn't thought about Jayson Velez though, maybe that's the fight to make at 126 for GBP.
Mares really impressed me with his performance against Ponce de Leon, but who can he honestly fight next at 126? Donaire, Rigo, Juanma, Mikey Garcia, etc. are all with Top Rank... should he move up to 130?
Would anyone like to see him against Santa Cruz should he move up to 126 anytime soon?
