Conventional wisdom over the last couple of fights was that Mayweather's legs were gone. Does his most recent performance change your opinion? If so, do you think he was purposely moving less to make for a more exciting fight or do you have another reason for the change?
I never bought into the "Floyd lost his legs" train of thought, but he did move more than I expected him to against Ghost. It can be hard to decipher what is physical deterioration and what is actually just ring rust.
Good point. He has done it so much that we forget that its not common for a fighter to take off such a large amount of time between fights. Maybe there is a bit of rust and it just shows up in more subtle ways.
he's 36 years old.
crikey. do you guys even watch boxing?
do you have legs of your own?
these are questions that don't need to be asked. of course a 36 year old fighter's legs aren't what they used to be after 44 professional fights.
his legs HAVE deteriorated. so far it hasn't mattered.
I think there is a difference between saying they have deteriorated and them being gone. For the fights after Hatton I noticed people starting to say his legs are gone. Clearly at 36 yo he is not what he once was, hell he has even said it. This question is directed towards those who believed his legs were gone. Not those who believe he has lost a step.

BHOP said it best (to paraphrase) - Some fighters can hide certain weaknesses better than others...said it during an interview before the fight.
There is no question that Mayweather cannot sustain the amount of movement he was capable of a couple of years ago. He did move more in certain times (i.e., paced himself - which was a key to victory IMO - pacing)
A lot could also be chalked up to reflexes and upper body movement and Guerrero's lack of elite speed. He was hit at times he use to be able to completely avoid moving back with his FEET (the shots werent landing flush either due to him rolling with them so well) so although he seemed quick, I think more had to do with how much better he was than Guerrero. Honestly, Floyd was so many steps ahead of Guerrero that he didnt seem to even go full speed on his feet like he was just taking it easy and putting his work in. Heard he was sick vS Cotto BUT Cotto has underrated speed and beautiful timing of his jab so its harder to look fast vs Cotto than Robert.
I feel that Floyd has lost a step in comparison to 5, 6, or 7 years ago but will continue to look fast because the matchups he's mentally on another level. He'd still be a tough out even if he was slower due to his anticipation/boxing iq, timing, accuracy and underrated power. He's hard to punish or hit solidly not just because of his legs, but his upper body movement and sense of distance.
Edit: Agree with above.

To be honest, it wasn't like Guerrero was making Floyd move a whole lot. I think people look at the "Floyd's legs not there anymore" as he's a walking cripple which obviously isn't the case.
At least of for me, I see a Floyd who doesn't use his legs as much anymore but has the skills and ability to still defend off the ropes and inside. He also hasn't had to fight someone who's putting constant pressure on him for 12 rounds where he'd have to use his legs all fight. Guerrero a lot of the time was literally right in front of him.
I think you are right no one has been able to pressure him the way castillo or hatton was. I think he may have also found other ways to mitigate pressure for instance his jab to the body

Had floyd vs cotto been at 147 with 8oz gloves floyd might of got the stoppage. He seemed to be breathing abit more on saturday though probably because he was moving more and guerrero was comin all night
Although I did not believe his legs were gone I did think he might not want to expend the type of energy to move the same way he did at the lower weights. And maybe after discovering that he could take a welterweight punch he didn't see the need to move as much as he did.
Maybe is father really did make a difference in this last camp.
word is, mayweather was sicker then a motherfucker for the cotto fight.
I know when I get the flu or some****, I dont feel like doing ****, he had to have a championship fight so I cahlk it up to that.
Mayweather that fought Guerrero always been there, and that version KO cotto inside of 9 rounds./
