Mayweather Is A Master Boxer

He is a master outside boxer. Incredible reflexes and speed. Second to none. But he does not have an inside game with elite competition. He will just hold. True greats never did that. If Ali wanted to, he could have avoided punishment by doing the punch and hold technique all the time. He had the tools Mayweather has. But that is why he is greater than Mayweather. Would Floyd do what Ali did against Foreman and Frazier? Prime, elite competition? He's the best infighter in the sport, but he decided to make things easier for himself by boxing. Guerrero is not even elite. Was it the 7th round that Byrd told Floyd to fight and let Guerrero go? Could not do anything. Then Byrd started just breaking them up quick again. Floyd's game. Clinching is part of an inside game. Tying people up is a skill and valid portion of inside fighting. Don't blame Byrd, he let them fight in there more than he could have.

Mayweather worked on the inside a little bit, he landed some decent body shots there. However it's on the breaks that Mayweather is the most effective, almost everytime they separated Mayweather clocked him with something. Most of Guerrero's inside work wasn't very effective. It was little shots for the most part, anything good was blocked, that's Guerrero's turf as well as he's pretty good on the inside and Mayweather reduced him to not doing much. All in all it's unfair to say Mayweather had "no inside game" that fight. Also, Ali did do the punch and hold technique in many a fight. He held quite a lot throughout Frazier I and it was his main tactic in Frazier II. Hit, push down on head/back. Rinse and repeat. Guerrero is not even elite.
