Excluding Canelo and Martinez which I think Mayweather wouldn't risk fighting until the 5th or 6th fight of the Showtime contract. Who do you think would be a good opponent for his next fight. Let's assume it's another fight at 147 or 154.
Problem is Marquez and Bradley are tied up fighting each other, Pacquiao is fighting Rios or Alvarado, Alexander is fighting Purdy and, if he beats him, then probably Khan. Although, Alexander is still a possibility because he'd obviously take the Mayweather payday over the Khan payday.
Maybe Provodnikov could be on the list after the performance against Bradley. Berto.. needs to be on a winning streak. Possibly Kell Brook if the Alexander-Khan fight gets made.. Drop some suggestions, I'll put up a poll later.
Martinez.
He would beat the Martinez that fought Murray without too much difficulty. Martinez' main weapon was the angles he launched his fast and hard punches from, without his legs there's no angles and therefore nothing lands. It also results in him being horribly 1 dimensional which is terrible against Floyd. IMO it's a good thing for both fighters. Sergio finally gets a massive pay-day and Floyd enhances his legacy by beating "the man" at 160 by catching him at just the right moment. Plus, Martinez isn't even that big.
pacquiao is the only fight i wanna see him agree to. i think martinez and canelo are too big for him. pacquiao fighting rios or alvarado is a mis match. just would love to see how pacman mayweather plays out, doesnt matter pacquiao got ko'd, its still the best fight out there. mayweather could fight canelo but i just think that its really a welterweight fighting a middleweight if that fight happens, mayweather can still win but it would be far the biggest and strongest guy he has ever fought, and canelo is patient and wont fade late on. mayweather probably has an easier fight if he fights martinez who is naturally smaller than canelo, more 1 dimensional and showing signs of getting old. if i was mayweather i would try for a martinez fight, but as a fan i would prefer to watch pac vs may.
Pacquiao is a top rank fighter. Arum has said repeatedly that his fighters are fighting on HBO only. Mayweather vs Pacquiao is not even feasible till Pacquiao's contract with top.rank.is up. Which isn't till.December 2014. Floyd is showtime now. That's another hurdle in the way of the fight. Plus Pacquiao needs to rebuild his career. He needs to fight Rios or Alvarado then look for the winner of Marquez/Bradley. Before even thinking about Mayweather. That ship has sailed.
There's an interview with Mayweather Snr for iFilm London, and he's talking about Paul Spadafora as an opponent. Not sure if he got names mixed up, as he was rambling on about Ricky Hatton in the press conference when he meant Guerrero :lol1:
If Keith Thurman keeps winning that's a good 2015 possibility
Thurman/Chaves vs. Maidana/Lopez will be very interesting. I could also see Ortiz make his return against the winner of Berto/Soto-Karass or Guerrero.

Brook is the only one without a fight, and I wouldn't even be mad at that match-up, though he's unproven.

I wonder if Floyd would fight Brook, a pretty unproven commodity.
The flaw in your thought-process is that Canelo could potentially be draining himself to make 154 next year, he's walking a fine line right now as he doesn't exactly know if his body will grow all of a sudden.
Good point, bro. Funny, I thought of this immediately after Canelo's fight with Trout, but for some reason it didn't occur to me tonight. His time at 154 is definitely limited. I guess he faces a choice: Huge risk/reward to fight Mayweather now, or move up and hope that his own star power will take him to the next level. If I had to bet, I would say Floyd and Canelo get it done in september.
Totally doesn't seem like it, gbp has stopped mentioning the fight and all indication is they are planning on a cotto fight for canelo. Its obvious they don't think he's ready. I thought for sure they'd try to blitz and push for that fight last night and not a word.
Is not about Alvarez being ready - he is a limited fighter who's gonna be just ok for the rest of his career, it's about Floyd slowing down enough for the vultures to want to get near. Don't ever even think Canelo would have a chance against prime Floyd or even last night's Floyd.

Hmm interesting one that one kell brook

If I'm on Canelo's team, I don't want that fight happening right now. September of next year is the time to do it. For one, Canelo is still growing as a star and the fight would be massive next year if he wins a couple more big fights. On the other hand, Canelo is still improving and growing as a fighter and, as good as Mayweather looked against Guerrero, he is getting older. Their best bet is to wait until late next year.
