WHY?................Because it almost guarantees that he fights Canelo in Sept! Floyd's already rich so I can give a rats behind if he makes 30-40 more million. I'm a fan and all I care about is watching high profile quality fights and so should every single boxing fan.
If his upcoming ppv against Guerrero falls far short of 1mil buys, he would be pressured by the network to face someone like Canelo. Does anybody here really want to see him in the ring with someone like Alexander? I sure as hell dont. Despite Pac's recent KO loss, Floyd/Pac is still the biggest money fight that can be made in boxing. Canelo is extremely popular amongst Mexican fans but he's not a worldwide boxing icon or star the way Floyd and Pac are. I would be happy watching Floyd forced into a Canelo fight in Sept followed up by a Pac fight early next year as long as Pac looks good and has an impressive win in his next fight.
For those who say that I'm a hater, how is wanting to see Floyd in a high profile challenging fight hating?
Your have to be the biggest fukin loser if you seriously search ticketmaster and check how many tickets are available and how many tickets are being sold just so you can come to this forum and say "LOOK MAYWEATHER FIGHT IS NOT SOLD OUT" :nonono:
Everybody involved with this event is going to make a lot of money and guess what...YOUR NOT GETTING ANY OF IT so why are fans so fuking worried about Ticket and PPV Sales so much as if the your getting a cut
Shows you that a lot of people are NOT BOXING FANS, they are just FANS OF BOXERS and if their fighter is not involved they want the event to FAIL!
also I think people are not smart enough to know that people but there tickets and resell them at a higher price. So if you are looking for tickets...ya there will be some out there
If anyone wants a good laugh, just do a search for threads started by Deevel916. It gives very good insight into the mind of an anally devastated fanboy.
YOu got it backwards. Floyd fighting guys unknown to the public HELPS the sport.
Mayweather/Marquez was sh*tted on when it was made in 2009, But It exposed the casual fan to Marquez early on so when he KOd Pacquiao 3 years later people were already familiar with him.
It does help the sport to some extent. You can bet Ortiz wouldn't have been on dancing with the stars without him

I disagree. Putting up and coming stars on the undercards of big high profile fights such as Floyd/Canelo helps them become known and helps the sport. Floyd against (Insert common Mexican named opponent that nobody knows) doesnt draw much casual fanbase interest or ppv buys.
....there was a rumor that they need to get around 1 million buys to make a profit.
There are so many reporters and boxing analysts (some paid.... most not).
I've seen the same report from somewhere... so I checked the facts on live gate and ppv revenues... couldn't get any details on corporate sponsorships or advertising revenue (which I'm sure are significant..)
Hey this is just 1 mans opinion and I'm saying that cutting previous performance revenues in half.... even a sub 1 Mill ppv sell rate will make tons of money...

I could be wrong here... but I can't remember when a Mayweather fight sold-out.
I don't believe he ever sells out because there are few cheap tickets. I don't have all the facts but I'm pretty sure the big stadium fights (Texas Stadium ect...) don't produce a bigger gate then big Vegas fights.
It seems pacdbest's argument is:
Unsold tickets to see the event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena = lack of interest...
Weak argument... look me up after the we see the live gate and ppv revenue numbers.
I'm calling for a $15 Million dollar live gate.... over 1 Mill ppv buys & a $50+ Million dollar payday for Money.
So... pacdbest....I got 100,000 pts on it if you care to wager...
$55 Million in CONSERVATIVE live gate and ppv.... Less $30 mill guarantee for Floyd.... Less $3 mill for Ghost (3 times the amount he earned against Berto).... leaves $22 million in revenue not including corporate sponsorship revenue, advertising revenue, merchandise, food & beverage, ect... (if you truly know Floyds business model.... he gets a piece of all this....).
But let's say they end up with the 22 million (i'm assuming you started with a revenue that included that 50% cut from distributors? just making sure), that still has to pay for the promotion, Floyd will want some PPV bonus, and then obviously GBP and Haymon are not working for free. So all in all you get closer and closer to low profit.
I don't want the PPV to fail and i'm buying it. I'm just saying, and there was a rumor that they need to get around 1 million buys to make a profit.
I think it will do respectable numbers (850k) but with how much Floyd is getting paid they might lose money.
Re-post from 4.30.13
Showtime will not lose money on this deal....
Fact: Mayweather live gate proceeds have been as high as $19 Million/ODL. His most recent fight $12 Million/Coto. For conservative numbers we will say this fights gate only clears $8 Million.
Fact: 1.5 Million buy rate produces revenues of $94 Million (May v. Cotto). For conservative numbers we will say this fight ppv numbers only do 750,000 buys producing $47 Million.

Stop with the non-sense of Showtime losing money.... It's a theory and the facts don't support it!
I'm calling my shot that even with a mediocre opponent in Guerrero, with the broader reach to the casual sports fan through CBS Broadcast TV exposure, as well as Showtime Cable TV exposure this fight sells over 1 Mill ppv buys.... Mayweather clears over $50 Million in this fight alone....

.....I never understood why people come on here and care and brag about how much money he's making per fight.....
.......He's been getting rich off protecting his 0 instead of defending it and its the fans that are not getting the fights they want to see.
Some people are fans of the sport..... fine.
Some are fans of the sweet science.... better.
Others are fans of "Prize Fighting".... the business.
Looking at a fight from the singular perspective of "the best matchup" is myopic.
Please say that you understand if the fights don't meet the public expectation... the prize fighter will be the one to suffer the consequences, to the point when eventually no one cares to watch.
So if the "fans aren't getting the fights they want"... please ask yourself:
- if he is hand picking fighters.... why do people still pay
- if he only cares to protect his "0".... why do people still pay
- if he has been ducking the best fighters out there.... why do people still pay
- if his defensive style is boring.... why do people still pay
- if his personality turns off so many.... why do people still pay
... and not just pay.... but pay, and pay, and pay, and pay.... in sums that far exceed any other fighter.
Being a "couch match-maker" is like running a fantasy football team... it may be fun to do, but the trades are unrealistic, and not based on any financial reality or consideration of the athletes needs.
Anyone fighting Floyd has everything to gain and nothing to lose.
Floyds business is prize fighting. If you will allow yourself to take a step back and evaluate his career based on "fighting for a prize"... you can come to no other conclusion that he has done it better than anyone who has ever stepped into the ring.
Pac would have been a nice fight... but in the end he overestimated his negotiating power and lost out on the fight and a career high payday. His choice... his consequence.
Canelo will be a nice fight... but he will have to wait. And if Floyd the businessman, makes even one bad business decision by choosing the wrong opponent (gets too old, loses to a lesser fighter, has a poor ppv event, ect...) then the consequence of losing an opportunity to fight Canelo for more money that any previous prize fight...... that decision will be his to suffer!
I'm not a fan of Floyd's persona but I will definitely tune in and pay to watch him as long as its against a legit opponent. I will not pay for Guerrero nor will I pay to watch him fight someone like Alexander. I respect his skills but unlike his fanboys, I want to see him in the most challenging fights possible. I can care less about what's financially beneficial to him. I'm a fan of the sport. Not his accountant.
Excellent post! I never understood why people come on here and care and brag about how much money he's making per fight and how many buys as if its beneficial in some way to them , and get offended and defensive about it.
I love boxing and have been watching and paying for PPV's for over 20 yrs, but at this point in his career I'm not paying $60 to watch him fight the Guerreo's or Alexander's or the B rate fighters. Nothing against Guererro but this fight is not worth that kinda money.
I would gladly pay to watch him fight Pacquiao when we were all calling for it or Canelo now . He's been getting rich off protecting his 0 instead of defending it and its the fans that are not getting the fights they want to see.
..........$30 mill guarantee for Floyd.... $3 mill for Ghost (3 times the amount he earned against Berto)....

Betting all my 67K points on it..... any takers?
Nailed it fellas.... Turns out floyd retains 90% of the profit!

I agree with the TS and his opening post. Of course Floyd *** riders are going to say he is hating an Floyd haters will agree so fuk it call me a hater but as a hater I say this PPV will do over a mili buys and if Floyd fights Canelo in Sept he murks the ginger.
ironically canelos last 2 opponents beated floyds last 2 opponents , when you think of ortiz, cotto and guerrero as a better competition for mayweather than canelo then something must be wrong... anyways canelo sayd last year he wanted martinez, martinez team cameback with roadblocks...
canelo brings more money to the table than any opponent right now, so he deserves the fight, if not your idol needs another nickname...
Just because a young Canelo ASKS for the fight doesn't mean he gets or deserves the fight...
Someday soon Canelo will take over as The Man.... calling the shots.
But that is for Floyd to decide..... just like it was De La Hoya's call when he fought Floyd.
Oscar called the time, the weight, the glove size, the ring size, the purse.... everything!
Floyd recognized the opportunity and conceded to Oscar's demands to secure the fight.
I don't want to hear any crying from Canelo fans when the opportunity presents itself and Canelo must give in to Floyds demands.
Unlike Canelo..... Floyd has earned that right.!
Yes. Golden Boy was smart to have Canelo star in his own main event. Let him keep building up that fan base. Raise his stock a little more.
That was not Golden Boys decision. It was Canelo who made that call against GB's wishes. GB knows this weekends PPV needed Canelo to help with buys.
Floyd will fight Canelo eventually regardless of what this PPV does.

Canelo can get it next if his fans demand it. Without Bob Arum and other fight-stopping hangers on in the way, the fight can get done.
