Im not very knowledgable on Guererro's skills/ability,
i know he came from lighter weights and had a war with burto byut thats about it,
what makes guerrero any different to the boxers who have been dominated by floyd?
i know cotto won a few rounds and thats the closest someone has come for a while but can guerrero really pull this off?
if he does, how do you see him winning?
I see him losing in a fairly surprisingly competitive fight. Floyd with a 116-112 type decision.
Guerrero is a good fighter IMO, hes pretty complete and can adapt on the fly.
Hes a southpaw with good skills, a decent jab, volume puncher. He was more of a pure boxer in the lower weights but as hes gone up in weight he likes to fight inside more and rough his opponent up.
His chins good, he has a good workrate. I'd say he does everything good but nothing great. I can not see him pulling off the unthinkable but I do think he'll be competitive and Floyd won't have it easy with him.
This is a good breakdown. Basically how I see it as well.
If this was 3 or 4 years ago, Robert would get dominated and embarressed. But by Floyd being 36, this could turn out to be a very difficult fight for him. He needs to launch a serious body attack against Robert to slow him down. If not, Robert could outwork him for 12 rounds. This is going to be a very interesting fight come Saturday. Over the years, I have sadly watched some of the greats get beat towards the end of their career by opponents they were expected to beat. There is no beating father time. At this stage of his career, Floyd is not only fighting younger hungrier opponents. He is also up against nature itself. If he doesn't retire soon, he will face defeat just like Jones jr, Ali, Leonard, Hagler,Duran, and Robinson. Although he is a great champion and future hall of famer, he still is human.
Robert will come in the best shape of his life , will have nothing to lose and the universe to gain , he will come tough .
Floyd is a class above him and will stop him , only Floyd aging and lack of activity will stop that from happening , if Floyd is sharp its all over .
No, I don't give the Ghost to much of a chance on beating Mayweather. I think Mayweather is just to fast for the Ghost.
I think Mayweather hurts the Ghost a couple of times during this fight maybe even stops the Ghost.
I'll be rooting for the Ghost in this one but I don't think he wins more then 3 rounds in this fight tbh.
No. When necessary the Floyd Mayweather of today becomes highly offensive. Guerrero is going to get shredded. Would not be surprised if Floyd stops him.
floyd will have to turn back the clock to finish the fight. he cant defend all te punches that guerrero will throw and he has the length, skill to box from the outside. they know floyd has to move to beat guerrero comfortably... so if he can, hats off to him because he will destroy robert like that. if not it will be quite a battle right in the middle of the ring
I think Guerrero is going to give Floyd plenty of problems cause Floyd doesn't throw high volume punches anymore. Floyd is going to fight off the back foot and do lot more shoulder roll like his old days. Floyd is gonna avoid scrapping unless he hurts Guerrero. Guerrero must break Floyds Phillyshell defense and force him to go into a conventional type of defense. If he can do that then it's good night Floyd.
The main difference in this fight and Floyd's dominance over other welterweights in the past is that Floyd is 36, well past his prime and has been out of action for a full year. He already showed signs of decline in his fight with Cotto. He should still be way too good, too fast, and hits too hard for Guerrero and I think he will win by KO. Guerrero is tough and game and he will give a 100% effort to win. I think his chance to win is about what the bookies give him. That would be a 10% chance to win.
stop talking like that...you might convince me to buy the damn card
Nah, the undercard is meh (though I want to watch Love/Rosado)
Do it old school...listen to the fight on the radio! (if that even exists)
No.
He will lose. The only thing he has going for hin is being southpaw. At which floyd will adjust by the 3rd round and robert will be turned inside out.
My exact thoughts, wouldn't be surprised if we saw the closest thing to another Gatti performance that Floyd can give us at his age.
Tyson/Douglas part deux
Tyson and Mayweather work ethic is way different. Tyson lost cause he didn't take Douglas serious Floyd trains hard for everyone.
Only if Floyd gets old in front of our eyes, if not I dont think so. At first I thought he could rough Floyd up and make it interesting for some time, maybe hurt Floyd early but after watching the Berto, Aydin and katsidis fight this weekend he doesnt stand a chance in my opinion. He is an all around fighter but his defense is very bad. He takes just as much punishment as he gives out....well maybe a little less. That brawling style he's been fighting with lately is gonna get him hurt.
A VERY Bad Night From Mayweather And A Big Assist From Father Time...MAYBE!
Guerrero don't do anything that will give Mayweather problems and he is flat footed as hell...some of Mayweather's best performances came against Flat Footed Fighters!
Mayweather will have to be worse than last time we saw him. Guerrero will have to use his jab, stay active, and hope the judges see the fight his way. There's very little chance he will have 7 rounds where he landed more clean punches than Floyd Mayweather.
I do think he'll give a good account of himself, but lose 9 clear rounds.
