This show tanks? I would imagine that would make the next opponent Floyd chose to fight very critical. I don't think Showtime would go for another Guerrero level opponent. This could be interesting.
IMO people say this almost every time he fights and he still sells a million plus ppvs.
However I do think rhis will be his lowest selling event since Hatton, but even those numbers wouldn't be a flop.

Depends on the opponent. When he fought Cotto last year no one was saying it wouldn't sell, everyone knew it would do a good number and it did. Same thing with Mosley, everyone knew who Mosley was and and it did solid business. Everyone was questioning the numbers Ortiz would do and it ended up doing pretty good.
People thought the JMM was going to do worse numbers than Hatton and it ended up doing over a million even with it competing against a UFC event the same nigh. After that Dana White admitted he wouldn't go up against Floyd or Manny again and he hasn't with a PPV (although he has done free Fox events the same night as Manny/Jmm and Manny/Bradley but they were usually over before Pac got in the ring.)
I don't think its fair to say everyone is pooh poohing every Floyd fight. But when he fights lesser known guys like Ortiz or Guerrero its a valid conversation to have IMHO...

If it flops people will say not being on HBO was the reason or people are tired of him. If it does more than a mil people will just say the numbers were cooked to make him look good.
Pretty much.
I do think Guerrero will bring in a lot of people because even before the Mayweather fight he's been known around the Cancer support foundations. I know my friends are buying this fight just to go along with a party they were already throwing that weekend. If you a boxing fan you going to buy this fight, its not the hate for Mayewather or the love of Mayweather its that you just simply want to see a boxing match. I at least tell myself and friends that the Mares v. Deleon are going to steal the show and that is going to be the fight of the night. Don't get me wrong Guerrero is going to make it a dog fight but he going to box in this fight like the old Floyd but i think Guerrero will get to him. Theres something in Guerreros eyes and look that tells me he is mentally strong and ready to take on Floyd something a Floyd opponet hasn't shown me in a long time.
People are really forgetting that Oscar, the PPV king supposedly, only had 4 fights do more than 1 million buys. And 2 of them were with Floyd and Manny.
Manny's had 6 fights surpass 1 million, and Floyd has had 5 fights surpass 1 million. It's hard to do 1 million buys.
Would Oscar have done 1 million with Robert Guerrero......probably not. I was thinking Mayweather-Guerrero would do 1.0-1.15 million, but after seeing the lackluster hype, I think it does 900K or so, around what Mayweather-Hatton did.
If Floyd does over 1 million with Guerrero, it's nothing short of a miracle.
Put things in perspective. Before Delahoya only Heavyweights did 1 million buys. No youtube, no internet hype, no 24/7. Delahoya made it possable for both Mayweather and Pacquiao to be at the top and read the huge audiance, without Delahoya they never get to where they been. Even Chavez Jr. was bigger than Mayweather before Mayweather fought Delahoya and got to superstar status by beating Delahoya.

It feels to me like Guerrero might get the SD win and Floyd may rematch him, taking care of two of his final 6 fights. I just can't get over the feeling that Mayweather is done, like he just wants to be a promoter now and is looking for a way out.
LOL you guys say the same thing everytime he fights...
lol you are right. Being that all this is hypothetical what is probably most likely to happen is it does decent numbers and we all move on to the next fight.

I like to watch Mayweather fight but I just scratch my head as this opponent. Maybe he wanted a lower hanging fruit to help brace himself for a more intense fighting schedule?
There is only one opponent type that Mayweather is missing from his resume. He has the skilled veterans, he has young lions, but he doesn't have that skilled veteran who still has his physical prime.
I would have said Sergio before this most recent fight. I think age is catching up. Really I just don't see how Canelo can't be next. There might be a large group of hangers on who would still like to see him get in the ring with Manny (me included) but I just don't think that will happen.
He has another shot to get a guy whose skilled, elite, and in his prime on his resume. I would be greatly disappointed if he lets this one slip him by too. I think this would also be a stain on his legacy as well.
I'd be shocked if this event totally flops. It hasn't been typical buzz for a Floyd fight but this is the softest fighter name wise that he's fought in a long time. Mosley and Cotto are big names that get people excited. And at least with Ortiz there was still the anticipation of a Pacquiao fight coming up at some point.
I still expect the fight to do decent numbers but below average of what Floyd typically does.
I dont remember being this turned off at a floyd fight like I have been for this one in a long time. I dont even think im going to watch it which is crazy because i usually watch everything, i probably will but usually im already making plans by now and calling people. It will probably be a gametime decision for me
I agree it doesn't feel like a Floyd fight week at all.
I think back to the Hatton and Mosley fights, there was a crazy amount of buzz.
The big question is how much say does Showtime have in who Floyd fights. Did they give him a blank check and allowed him to pick his opponents? If they did then they are getting what they paid for.
If not they will be pushing for a Canelo clash sooner rather than later if the lack of hype is any indication of the final PPV numbers.
there is pretty much no talk about this fight whatsoever. usually by now I would have heard my casual friends bring it up and **** but not once.
My guess is that Mayweather has built his career on being the guy that many people are wanting to see lose. In his other fights, in the fight build up they were able to build some buzz around the opponent actually having a chance at beating Floyd.
So you would get more people talking about it because there was some semblance of a challenge. I have not talked to anyone who is giving Guerrero a real shot at winning this. So there doesn't seem to be much buzz coming from the idea that Floyd could lose. Without it, all you have left are the more hard core boxing fans who will watch Floyd no matter who he fought.
Floyd's PPV sales will suffer because of Pac's KO loss. I think showtime will push for canelo-mayweather next because that's the only fight that will generate big business. But we know floyd " he calls the shots ".
